This is a historic building that dates back to 1548 and has gone through 11 owners. Today it is a spa hotel The hotel sits on a large piece of land, with herds of cattle and sheep in front of the door. The restaurant on the other side has a great view of the lake and a large meadow. Rabbits and squirrels often jump around in the meadow and forest. You can reach the lake through a path, or you can hike in the forest. From the elevator, you can feel that the hotel has a sense of age. The spa has a constant-temperature swimming pool, a cold pool, a hot pool, and an outdoor hot pool, facing a large area of grass and woods, which is really pleasant. The only thing to note is: if you check out at 11 o'clock, you must go to the spa before checking out. After 11 o'clock, there will be an additional charge of 20 pounds per person.

I used to visit the hotel as child with my parents, and it was always classed as being superb. I decided to treat some family and friends to the Festive Lunch on the 23rd. As I write this review, my mouth waters thinking about the wonderful food we had. The ambience is first class, and the presentation is perfect. Topped off by Richards rendition of O Sole Mio made the afternoon for all one to remember. We all agreed it was the best place we visited in our 8 days in the Lakes. We'll be going back soon for sure. Thanks from the Barry party.

From our first visit here we fell in love with the place. We came to view it as a possible wedding venue and left booking it. As soon as we arrived we were very warmly greeted by a lovely gentleman called Richard. Then got shown around by our now wedding coordinator Lynsey who was very welcoming and knows her stuff. A visit after this we came to view it with my parents and again Richard was on hand to very kindly unexpectedly show my parents around. Nothing is too much trouble here. Not to mention how stunning the grounds and venue are. We have just left from a brilliant festive afternoon tea with some of our family and can say we are very excited to have our big day here in February 2027. Whether it’s for a day visit in a stunning place, or an evening away or even a wedding, I highly reccomend to put this on your list.

Just writing this review for The Grill, the new restaurant at Armathwaite. It is absolutely fabulous, the food, the service, all the staff made it so special every night for us. We are a big family who can also be quite intense (in the best way haha), but they were incredible and genuinely made the trip. S/O to Joanna in particular, big respect, an absolute legend, gem of a waitress, deserves a raise! Also Guru, another amazing Waiter, they went above and beyond !! Poppy X

Had an absolutely wonderful experience at the Grill in the hotel. We stayed for 3 nights and they welcomed us with open arms each time. On the first night they let us dine last minute even as a large group, yet still provided us with amazing service. The food was perfect and were great portion sizes. Special mention to Guru, Paolo and especially Joanna who went above and beyond for us throughout the three meals.

We stayed at Armathwaite over the Christmas period, and generally we were all very impressed. The food was fantastic and Elena was so lovely to us. The Service was in general good, although there were some timing issues (late to sit down to dinner 2 nights and plates not taken away before next course on a few occasions) although this did not detract from the overall beautiful dining experience. The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff were all very friendly and couldn't do enough to help make our stay memorable. There were lots of lovely little touches that were not expected but were certainly appreciated, such as the chocolates and port in the room on arrival ,the gift on Christmas day and the glass of bubbly brought to the room on boxing day. The spa was very nice, but we were disappointed in the opening times for children. Whilst we understand that Armathwaite is a spa destination and therefore child access restricted ,we feel this should have been lifted for boxing day as it was for Christmas day. The times available were 8.30-9.30am and 5-6pm. Breakfast was served 8-10am so it would have been difficult to have time for both, especially with a child involved. At night, the cocktail hour started at 6.30 and with it being a Black tie event on boxing day, there was no way someone would be able to take their child swimming and then get ready for a formal event starting shortly after. Overall is was a lovely experience and we would recommend Armathwaite without a moments hesitation! Thank you!
