I had a very unpleasant stay at Maisha Matamu. I booked for 11 nights but ended up staying 6 due to multiple issues.
Upon arrival, I was told there was a system issue and that another guest with my surname refused to vacate my room. I was moved to a nearby hostel, which was significantly cheaper, but lacked Wi-Fi, phone signal, towels and even water at times. As a solo female traveler, I felt uncomfortable there. Later, I spoke to the other guest, who confirmed she had booked and paid in advance, exposing that the story I was told wasn’t true. Despite having booked and paid in full months ago, I had to argue for a refund for the nights I stayed at the cheaper hostel. Only after arguing did they refund me for 2 nights.
Throughout this ordeal, they made several rude comments and even lied at several occasions, which added to my discomfort. This was particularly disappointing, as I’ve been traveling solo for many months and have stayed in numerous hotels without ever experiencing anything like this. I ended up checking out 3 nights early because I felt so uncomfortable. No apology or concern was ever shown until I told them I was checking out earlier.
The only bright spot was the fantastic staff at the restaurant and bar—much love to them, as they were the reason I stayed as long as I did.
