Kyoto Machiya Fukune

Nijo Castle Kyoto|0.82km from Shijo-Omiya Station
After staying at minshukus, ryokans and western-style hotels over the last several days, it was a pleasure to end our Japan stay with 2 nights at Kyoto Machiya Fukune. The 2 of us appreciated the extra space of the Sangen machiya compared to our previous lodgings to just chill out, especially when soaking in your personal outdoor hot water (not onsen) bath or the indoor hinoki bath and looking out onto the compact zen garden. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms modern and clean. The included mini-bar (Asahi beer, sake, soft drinks and water) was an unexpected bonus! The welcome tea ceremony with traditional sweets (much better than that offered with the included entry price at the Okochi Sanso Garden in Arashiyama) was a far superior greeting than fronting a hotel reception desk even if one has to wait (about 10 mins) for Miki to arrive (which was forewarned in the pre-stay info); we were informed of our security code when we rang (using the complimentary phone in the separate arrival area) and could access the machiya while waiting. Miki was very helpful with local restaurant and sightseeing tips. Excellent pre-stay information was provided via email from Kyoto Machiya Fukune. While we didn’t use the laundry (complimentary) we did make use of the locker, which we found could store 2 large suitcases and 2 carry-on luggage with room leftover for shopping bags. It cost us ¥1500 for taxi/uber from JR Kyoto stn to the machiya. Once there it is only several minutes’ walk to various train stns or bus stops. Nishiki mkt’s western entrance is about a 10min walk away. This was my 3rd time in Kyoto with the goal to visit sights we hadn’t seen previously like Arashiyama’s bamboo grove and Fushimi Inari shrine. The Randen line’s Shijo-Omiya stn is just over 10mins walk away and the tram takes you into the heart of Arashiyama’s shopping *****, the Kimino forest and near the Tongetsu-kyo bridge. Then take your time to walk to the bamboo grove via Tenryo-ji shrine. They say it best to get to the grove early to beat the tourists, but it rained in the morning, so we took our time and got to the grove about lunch-time. While crowded, it wasn’t as packed as what we thought it would be, given it was a Sunday and also ‘golden week’ (maybe people were eating lunch). We also walked to and visited the Nison-in temple that was recommended by Miki; she highlighted the moss that covered a lot of the grounds; a very worthwhile diversion and IMHO better than the Okochi Sanso Garden we also visited). Had a late lunch in the local area then walked to JR’s Saga-Arashiyama stn; ¥220 to JR’s Inari stn (simple transfer at JR Kyoto stn) with the Fushimi Inari shrine entrance across the road. The place is pricey, but we’re glad we stayed here.

Toyoko Inn Kyoto Shijo-Omiya

Nijo Castle Kyoto|0.13km from Shijo-Omiya Station
In Kyoto, it is common for hotels in the high season of sightseeing (※ I don't know what happens after the corona...). Among them, if there is only vacancy, it will change at a price that will not change throughout the season I think it is the charm of Toyoko Inn to receive a good service. For room facilities, it is a facility as a business hotel and should not be asked for a luxury inn. But the night gown is taken out of the box of ultraviolet sterilization, and finger sterilization and mask are natural. It may be a problem in the room I stayed in, but there was a little wifi instability (there was a moment when the radio wave suddenly became weak). However, it is cheap as a price for the autumn leaves high season in November. Without corona, members can book from half a year ago (generally 3 months ago). I think the reservation will be buried in a short time. The location is convenient. About 1 minute west of Shijo Omiya intersection to Shijo Dori street and 1 minute west of Hankyu / Arashiden Omiya station. Kyoto City, which cannot be reached without transfer of train bus from Shijo Omiya The main tourist spots are the Kinkaku Ji Temple, the Nijo Jo castle, and the area of Ohara, Kurama, from the suburbs of Rakuhoku, such as jitsuso in temple and Shisendo. After all, you can go to the Ginkaku Ji Temple, Kiyomizu Ji Temple, and the Takamine of the Arashiyama. In addition, since the density of the downtown area falls slightly compared with Shijo KARASUMA, there are many parking lots outside the hotel of 1000 yen per night with a 24 hour upper limit. In addition, because it is close to Shijo Kawaramachi ~ Shijo KARASUMA by train bus, You can also eat and drink in downtown.

AB Hotel Kyoto Shijo Horikawa

Nijo Castle Kyoto|0.36km from Shijo-Omiya Station
It is conveniently located on the north side of the Horikawa Shijo intersection about 30 meters east. It opened in 2018 and is still a new hotel for the third year. It is a very reasonable hotel from \2,200- for 1 night with a large bath and breakfast. The hotel is new, the front desk staff is of good quality, and the room is also beautiful with ample size. Unit buses are also large and comfortable. I am glad that the amenities are substantial. The TV is a large size of 50 inch. In addition to free Wi-Fi, there is also a wired LAN. The breakfast venue is on the first floor. It is not delicious, but the number of items is sufficiently satisfactory. In addition to celery, there are fish, salad, curry, bread, yogurt, boiled *, raw *, milk, orange juice, etc. The staff is always on the tour and there is no way to go on the way. Packs are prepared at the entrance so you can eat in the room. The business hours are from 6:30 to 9:00. It is a breakfast ticket system. The price is \ 800 -. The public bath is also on the first floor, and the business hours are from 16:00 to 24:00 and 6:00 to 9:00. Be careful because the end time is the same as the breakfast venue. The open-air bath in Tsubo garden is broken from September 1, 2021 and cannot be used. In addition to sightseeing, it is a wide range of customers with business use and family. The age group is also wide. Check out is smooth because it is a pre-adjustment system. Check out time is 10 o'clock. Above all, I think it is the strongest advantage that it is in the center of Kyoto. It is a hotel that I want to stay many times. Parking is 3 in front of the hotel.

Resi Stay Nishijin

Resi Stay Nishijin

Nijo Castle Kyoto|2.57km from Shijo-Omiya Station
We had mixed reviews of this accomodation Pros - was a very large room two small doubles and a bunk perfect for families. Amenities are great with wifi, lots of kitchen utensils, stove, tea and coffee supplied, toothbrushes available, washing machine and tablets are provided with an inbuilt dryer system in the bathroom. Bathroom and shower area was also spacious. Beds are on the okay side but could be softer. The area itself is nice and quiet with a bus stop right out from we utilised every day, supermarket and Lawsons are across the road and you feel very safe. Would recommend for families. Cons - check in is in a different location 20minute taxi away so we had to catch a train to the check in office when arriving in Kyoto from Osaka, then a taxi to the accomodation after this which chewed up a few hours as we had to wait 45min in addition to check in due to busyness of the office. The area is a bit out of the way of everything next time I might consider staying at a different resi stay location closer to sights and facilities like shops etc. All the restaurants in the area seem to not open for breakfast until 11am so we had to have McDonald’s if we didn’t want to cook or travel too far for breakfast as we have a toddler (early riser). Same occurred at dinner time a lot of restaurants didn’t seem to be open the Monday or Tuesday we were there or opened too late for us (we travelled with a four year old). Our last disappointment was resi stay apparently have a strict not noise at night policy however another room partied until about 3am but there is no front desk or after hours phone number to call to complain / get the noise to stop. Was very frustrating as walls were very thin so we didn’t sleep very well. Overall we would stay with Resi Stay again but at another location due to Nishijin being a bit too out of the way for us.

This hotel is located next to Omiya station and lots of convenience stores were nearby. The staff were able to communicate in English. Various amenities thet had. We booked single room and 2 beds, which was big enough for two even though it's Japan. Quite decent!

It was beautiful. Amenities are systems that bring the necessary amount from the receptionist. There was a refrigerator, deodorant and pot in the room. It's quiet because it faces a narrow road. 5 minutes walk from Omiya station ~ 10 minutes. There are shops around Omiya station, such as MacDonald, Matsuya, the king of gyoza, gast, CoCo, etc., so it is not troublesome for restaurants. It is convenient because seven eleven and FamilyMart are around Omiya station. There was a supermarket called Fresco.

This is the 5th hotel I have been in Japan. At all hotels I have been before the rooms were very small including a small shower. To my suprise my room in Ark hotel was bigger. It is not a suite but anf perfectly equipped with all the necessary things. The girl at the reception Yukey is here name was very helpful to solve some questions and problems we had. She speaks fluently English what was a big relief. The hotel is situated close to all buslines, shops an restaurants so evetything is within walking distance. For a 3 star hotel its delivering 5 star service.

If I didn't move from the Urbain hotel, which is very close by, I think I will give this hotel a 5 star. However, the two other hotels I stayed before all had onsen public bath, as well as decent laundry service. There is no public bath here, the laundry machines are wildly outdated, and they charge more than other hotels. I saw more foreign guests than in other hotels. Maybe the only thing that's beyond average here is their service.

The reasons I booked: Allowed 6 of us to stay in one room I wanted to experience Japanese style room, like sleeping on futon. I also like onsen hotel. The reasons I won't book again: The room was outdated. The sofa bed was torn. The cushions didn't appear clean. There was some unpleasant smell in the toilet when I arrived on the first day and throughout my whole stay. The onsen - I didn't feel like it was an onsen, more like a big bath with hot water. On 2nd day of our stay, the hotel approached us for our missed tax for the 2nd day and 3rd day, hotel staff stated the 1st day tax was paid. (We booked and paid online) We didn't quite understand. We paid. On the day we checked out, the hotel staff said the 1st day tax was not charged, the hotel wanted us to pay. It may not be their fault. It was just very confusing. Anyway, I think I can find somewhere better.
