The location is on a small hill. If you have luggage, it may be difficult. The environment is quite beautiful, but the bed is very short.
Another thing that is more surprising is that the counter already asked me to pay the city tax when I checked in, and asked me for a city tax when I checked out. She was very suspicious and told me that she didn't trust me. It said that the computer showed that the payment has not been made. I don’t know how the computer wrote it, so I asked her to ask her staff directly. From my experience, guests will be charged when they check in. She also showed a very suspicious I will continue to take what I have... 😊 It took a while to check out, it can be seen that there is a problem with the system of this family~

In order to catch the early train, I found a hotel at the foot of the station, not far from this hotel. On the other hand, you depend on your meal at the hotel and its meal time. I want to have dinner at 9.45 in the evening. It's too late. The kitchen is closed. It was Friday night. It was a bit early, isn't it? !
I don't like single beds, even though I have booked a double bed. But the room is fully equipped, I can even use the bathtub, Nuxe brand shower gel! .
The breakfast buffet was great, everything was of high quality, I had great cheeses, St Nectaire, Comté and Reblochon. The tea is from Palais des Thés, and the rest is perfect, except for the gorgeous Art Nouveau restaurant, I like it!

Hotel Charlemagne is a great hotel. The location was in an esplanade district directly in the route of all public transport. We took a tram to the train station, and the bus to the tourist sites- direct route. There is plenty to eat in the area, with a mall about a 10 min walk. Across the street is a self service all included laundry, very helpful for long trips. Some restaurants in the area close outside the peak hours- mostly 3-6. The staff was very friendly and the bar tender made a great mojito.

Very nice hotel, the rooms are spacious and the beds are a good size and very comfortable. We had dinner at the Pampa hotel restaurant, and everything was delicious. The breakfast buffet is also very varied. We dealt with Jack at reception, very professional 👍

The hotel is very close to the Padiu train station and bus station, just 200 meters away from the north gate. The train station has recently been renovated and requires a detour. There are many restaurants, supermarkets, and large shopping malls next to the hotel, making eating and transportation very convenient. Breakfast doesn't have much variety, but it's clean. The structure of the room is a bit messy, not very big, and the balcony is not well protected. It is probably because the apartment was converted into a hotel. The service staff were very warm and friendly. The room didn't seem to be cleaned every day. I stayed alone for two days in a row so I didn't mind.

15min walk from Lyon Part Dieu. Due to construction works, walking and dragging luggage became challenging and not as direct. There was a huge Westfield Mall where you can shop and dine. 10min walk to car rental office. There was a pickup area for us to load up luggage to our rental car just beside the hotel. Check-in process was a bliss. Staff was friendly. Sanitisers were always available. Room was relatively much smaller than Paris hotel. Barely enough space for 2x large luggage. Nevertheless, room was clean and dust-free. Toilet had decent space. Recommended for as a stopover hotel. Probably a night stay.

Traveling as a family of 3, we booked the Executive Suite with the terrace, a double bed and a convertible sofa bed.
Our arrival around 1:00 a.m. went well, a call to the hotel the day before allowed us to learn the protocol to follow for late arrivals 👌🏼
The terrace was perfect for morning coffee, minus the coffee but I'll come back to that later.
Breakfast (literally) available downstairs next to reception, in fact the ladies at reception were very friendly.
Unfortunately, that's where the positives end; neither sheets nor covers could be found for the sofa bed, the mattress of the latter being very yellow I preferred to transform it back into a sofa and sleep that way although it has a large recess in the middle.
No coffee machine in the Executive Suite, at least yes: there is a Nespresso in the central cupboard of the kitchenette but no capsule.
Impossible to order anything via the application that they offer to scan either, nothing was available for the big day so you have to plan coffee for the next day?
The shower handle is on a half-broken bracket but it works 🤷🏽♂️
Oh and I almost locked myself in the airlock trying to open the door for my father, since you need the card to have electricity, be careful with the magnetic card.

The rooms are small for a Holiday Inn, and in need of refurbishment. Mine had a big wine stain on the carpet, and the sofa/3rd bed was in poor condition. The public areas are OK and the breakfast is good. The hotel suffers significantly from a lack of staff. Reception is often unattended, phones unanswered. The restaurant is closed at short notice. Such staff as there are, are mostly very pleasant and helpful, although one hard-pressed evening receptionist, who was doubling up as barman, lost his temper under the pressure. An evening fire alarm, when guests had to evacuate, demonstrated that the staff didn't know what to do in these circumstances - no-one to supervise the exit, no-one to announce when it was safe to return. I don't know if this was lack of training or lack of enthusiasm, but it needs to be fixed. Overall, I was disappointed, and wouldn't return.

Outstanding
GGuest UserThis is a fun property. It's an old building that was a hospital before it was converted. The building is spectacular. It was also very clean. The rooms are quite large - by any standard and especially French standards. The space was also very well utilized. The bathroom was similarly large and well laid out. The location is excellent - near the rivers and lots of tourist areas. It's an expensive area but that's not unexpected. The wifi was good and the A/C worked well. The airport is outside the city so it costs about 50-60€ each way. The property was very quiet. They did a nice job insulating the windows to block traffic noise. Bottom line, I would absolutely return.
EEdemonQSuperb room and service. Friendly and understanding staff (especially the morning breakfas crew who came out to inform us the breakfast is ready).
Nice smart tv and provided heater/ fan on request.
GGuest UserWe loved out stay at Hotel Carlton-Lyon. It was a wonderful surprise! We spent 5 days here in a room with a king-size bed. The only downside is the lack of storage for clothes in the room, but we got creative. If you are expecting US-sized rooms you will be disappointed, but for European rooms we were very happy. The bathroom is large with a shower/bath that has great water pressure and temperature. The mattress and pillows are comfy. The air conditioner was great during a very warm week. The hotel is amazingly quiet. I never heard anything! Ride the beautifully renovated elevator. Breakfast is so wonderful- include it in the reservation. They have everything you could want for breakfast from bacon and eggs to meat and cheese, fresh fruit, granola, yogurt and PASTRIES. The staff are all terrific, but get a drink at the bar (an old-fashioned if you like them) and then go again. Shout out to bartender, Claudia, who made our trip so special. Not only did she recommend a great local restaurant for a Saturday night but then called them to squeeze us in for a last minute reservation at Bouchon des Cordeliers. Much appreciated after a more than 24 hour travel day. This location can't be beat. It is walking distance to so many things including Vieux Lyon (~5 min) and the art museum (15 min). It is a less than 5 minute walk to the bus. Take the C5 bus to Parc de Tete or the International City Center convention center. SO easy! You want to shop? This location has everything... Hermes, Louis Vuitton, UNIGLO, North Face... More nearby cafes, brasseries, boulangeries, patisseries and bouchons than you can image. Rent a bike or an electric scooter. Fun, easy, and very convenient. All in all, we loved this place and would definitely come back. I can't speak to the price/value because I was at a convention and got convention rates that seemed very reasonable. Stay here- you won't be disappointed.
GGuest UserAmazing hotel. Comfy beds. Amazing personal who realy like to take care for you. My college and I took to France to meet up with a wine farmer but unfortunate Someone broke into our car in a underground parkinglot and broke our backseat window. We had been at the police station to complain about the incident. The hour where near midnight and we had called many hotels to see if we could stay for one night with no hope... (We used to sleep in the car but with a window broken and glass everywhere in the car, it was a no go) We found The Ruck hotel on a booking site and booked us in for a night. Next day we booked us out as we thought everything will go smooth, speak with police, speak with the Danish ambassade, speak with insurance company. Apparently carglass had other things to do so our stay went from 1 day to 3 days at the hotel, before they could check up on our car. The hotel receptionist helped us get through to carglass and make an appointment for our car. The food on the hotel is professionel made and the servants realy want to assist in any way possible, you could not even drop your spoon on the ground before they where already over giving you a new spoon. Happy personal who realy give thier all to make you happy. If we could give more than 5 stars it would be a 10 star from us.
GGuest UserThis hotel was one of the worst I have ever stayed in. Before I get into specifics, the staff was great, very friendly and nice. I don't blame them for the state of the rooms. The first room we had was right on the street, first floor. It seemed ok at first, but it was so noisy and we were staying for 6 nights, I asked to change and they ended up finding a room later that day we could move to. The first room was ok, it seemed run down. The bedding and bed seemed new and the a/c worked, so I thought is was workable. After the noise and I moved to the next room, I had another awful room. There was a hole in the bathroom ceiling where there was a water leak. The full length mirror was cracked and I was worried I would hit it by accident and cause it to fall. There were just minor issues like wallpaper peeling and paint touch ups needed. I know this company recently bought this hotel, but they should not be open until the rooms were renovated. The rooms needed a total gutting and redoing. This is not at all the quality I was expecting when I booked. Also, we were told we needed the key to swipe to access the building, but that wasn't true. Anyone could enter at any time. I never felt safe there. The second room we had was way in the back, so I felt safer there, but I was very happy to leave when it was time to check out. So if you are staying here soon, I would advise to check and see if the rooms have been renovated before you book.
GGuest UserIt is true that the neighborhoods are close to the convenience with a cooker just in front of the small dej, because €13 this is better to go elsewhere especially if it is in a suitable way to the quality of the apartment. For 4 with a clac click that grins all night, a mouthed lavabo ever, and the cleanliness I think if you go into details is to desire, you'll say that it's just to sleep!!!!!
蒋蒋A family of three, the executive three-person room booked two days in advance, the standard room plus a sofa bed at the time of check-in, the most important thing is that there is no quilt and pillow on the sofa bed! And all the toiletries are for two people. After negotiating with the front desk, I said that I am embarrassed to clean up the mistakes. Then I found a circle and said that I was too embarrassed to be quilted. I can only use the spare blanket in the cabinet! We asked for two sheets to look for. The attitude of the younger brother is good, but it is helpless, and we are speechless. In addition, the room had a pungent taste of decoration (or the smell of carpet cleaner) and opened a night window. Experience the worst hotel on this trip!
GGuest UserMy experience in the Odalys Bioparc was terrible. As soon as we arrived to the hotel we were welcomed by a quite rude receptionist. The sign with her name had the UK flag which one would believe that means that she speaks English. However, don’t fool yourself, the only thing she knows how to say in English is the memorize speech she was given for those who don’t speak French. After being obliged to pay for the city tax, which was supposed to be included, and for which we are still waiting for the invoice, we went to the room. The room was dirty, being full of spots on the carpet and with spider webs in the kitchen. One of the lamp was faulty and was always flashing and the other had fungi and some other insects, which means that it wasn’t cleaned for a long time. Finally, one of the bed sheets was also full of spots and hair. For a client the room was not presentable and when confronted with that the not so nice receptionist said “I can’t do anything” acting very confused as if she didn’t understand what we were speaking in English. I don’t recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a somewhat reasonable accommodation in Lyon since it’s not prepared to host any guests and it is also located well away from the city center.
GGuest UserThe front desk staff were friendly and polite to me, they helped me on things as best as they could and English was well spoken. The view from outside is nice as you are so high up. The hotel is overall ok but it's not high-end, it's old and a little dark, I did not see that opulent wood panelled dining room shown in the Tripadvisor pics, the dining room was nothing like that. The room had an adequate kitchen area which I found very useful and you will need to obviously buy food but also all washing up stuff etc and all cleaners. You clean/make up your own room unless you pay an extra daily charge which I didn't but I'm old enough to make my own bed. However as I was there for 11 days I was told I'd get one cleaning day/linen/towel change after a week but that never happened. Like the last reviewer I was also in Lyon for surgery and this hotel is not suitable for post-op recovery as you really do need to be pretty fit to deal with the location. It is halfway up a very steep hill several hundred yards long so would also not suit older visitors or those that want an easy level stroll to local cafes. The local store at the bottom of the hill is good and is where you can buy most needed supplies and the boulangerie opposite makes very nice mini quiches. This would suit a younger visitor or able visitor and the area is also good for street photographers. Lyon is a nice city and good to explore but if you visit the marvellous Notre Dame Basilica in Fourvierre be very careful. You will need to use the funicular railway to get to it and on this I was mugged by a young steaming gang who pickpocketed my cash and c/cards. One young 20s guy within with two petite, dead face teen girls will block your path as you get on the carriage and literally lock on to you bodily. The guy will start shouting in your face to distract you while the skilful girls are emptying your pockets. You won't feel it.
GGuest UserStayed for 2 nights (2 adults & 1 kid) Positives: Clean hotel - To be expected from any Ibis Budget Helpful staff - To be expected from any Ibis Budget Basic amenities - microwave at reception / cold drinking water (may not be complementary but staff let us refill our bottles) Ample car parking - We didn't use since we were not driving McDonalds next door - Helpful only if you are a McD person which I am not!!! Negatives: Rooms are not air conditioned - not sure if that is the case with all Ibis budget hotels but it could get uncomfortable in June nights Location is kind of secluded - can be slightly scary to go out after dark (especially with family) Not too many restaurants (except McD ofcourse), bars, supermarkets nearby Metro station is a good 800-900 mt away so can get tedious if you plan to walk to metro station multiple times a day
