Recreatieoord Kikmolen

The campsite is a mixture of (very) long term statics and touring caravan pitches. We camped with a touring caravan on a pitch near the main shower block. Drainage was decent but grass was on the longer side which was a nightmare for walking in grass and tree bits. The main shower block is clean enough and has actual toilet seats, (who knew that it was standard practice to remove them in European camp sites.) The laundrette has plenty of washers and dryers. The playground and softplay were both hits with our kids. The bad bits, hot shower water comes in at an eyewatering pricey €1 per minute! And each pitch only gets one fob to use the showers so the 4 of us had to take turns resulting in a shower session lasting 4 times longer than it could have. This really let the experience down for us. If they billed extra for rent but kept the showers free at point of use I would have given the site 4 stars. They gave us a bag for recycling but it doesn't accept paper or cardboard or glass so we had to take them away with us to recycle them. The slides and lake that we saw on the website and kids were looking forward to were closed for the 4 nights we spent here and appear dated and worn out upon closer inspection. The lake is only a man made concrete pond. The caretaker who shows you to your pitch was comically grumpy and spoke to us in english on the first night to ensure our caravan was placed on the pitch in his preferred position, but when we had trouble with the washer in the laundrette pretended he couldn't speak english. WiFi has been free on every site we have visited in the last 5 years but is €15 a week here 🙄 Despite all this I have visited worse sites I guess. The area is decent, has lots of cycle paths through the woods which is perfect for exploring and getting some much needed time with nature and close enough to amenities such as supermarkets that you could easily cycle to. The motorway noise wasn't as bad as I was expecting with the proximity to the motorway but it is a noticeable background noise at night. The local racetrack can also be noisy at times but is done by 10pm.
