I beleive Calypso Hotel is a great hotel. The location is perfect and quiet. The staff was positive and helpful. I beleive is a very good place for families and couples. The food they offer is fine and the prices of any extra is logical. The hotel is clean. I would recommend the place to everyone. I hope to visit Calypso again in the future. Thank u !

We stayed at this property in Matala from 2 to 10 September, in room 19 (2 adults and 1 child). The hotel is very simple, in an excellent position to go to both the beach and the centre of Matala, and there is a very pleasant swimming pool. Our room was spacious and nice with a basic and repetitive breakfast. We had an unpleasant experience, as we had deposited our documents and cash in the safety deposit box (lockable), from which unfortunately €600 was stolen, €350 from my wallet and €250 from my husband's. We have been going on holiday to Crete in this area for years, for the first time in this hotel that we did not know, but nothing like this had ever happened to us. We returned very disappointed and bitter, €600 is not a trifle....

If you are looking for a hotel with a great restaurant, don't go there because the cuisine is "basic". The breakfasts are simple. On the other hand the hotel is very pleasant, a little away from the road and not too far from the sea by taking the shortcut. Nothing to say about the cleanliness of the rooms and the bathroom The swimming pool is good and it There are shaded corners. The staff is discreet and friendly. It's not the factory because there aren't too many rooms

I think it's the worst hotel I've been in... The food, let's not talk about it, it's totally indecent (the lunch is nothing continental, low standard. The evening meal, 1 normal dish and 1 vegetarian dish. As starters, salad, tomatoes, onions, olives, ... dessert, 1 fruit...) And what's more, it's not even good, the leftovers reused as much as possible, boiled eggs that have been hard for several days... At least we discovered some great little restaurants in town! The wifi does not work in the rooms even though it says "Wifi in the rooms"! When we complain about it, they say it works on the terrace, which is not true, we have the signal but impossible to connect. And when by some miracle it connects, nothing happens! It seems that it's because of the mountains, that it's like that everywhere in Greece, I have to deal with it... while the wifi works very well in the restaurant and everywhere else in Matala in the restaurants! At the Calypso hotel, we even receive wifi from surrounding hotels, but unfortunately no password :( TV. We're not here for that but still, at the limit, I would prefer that it not There aren't any! 3 channels: 2 German and one French-speaking. All almost as scrambled as Canal + without a decoder. The French-speaking channel remained frozen 4 days a week and what's more, they chose LN24 but the African version! Nothing against it, but this information interests me less... I had asked for a room on the ground floor, we were put on the highest floor... A broken fridge remained at the bottom of the stairs during the entire stay... Icy reception, I was even yelled at because I wasn't parked in the right place. And at the reception, you have to manage: we go up there with our luggage, we are given a sheet with some practical instructions and then it's you manage. And no one to help with the luggage... they are there, sitting, but no one moves... nice The girls who take care of the cleaning and clearing the tables in the restaurant are nice, but we have to clear our table ourselves! Is this a hotel or are we at home? A word of advice, there are other hotels, avoid this one, even if it is not expensive! Written promises but nothing in practice. Positive: the swimming pool but we have the sea very close...

Pretty exterior, pleasant swimming pool, spacious room, bedding a little hard. We had half board, a passable breakfast, a horrible dinner, we had to go and eat in town some days so much so that it was unacceptable, however, it's not difficult for us to avoid half board. Good location to visit matala

My boyfriend and I spent the first week of May in this hotel and were generally very impressed. In some places you can see that it is only a 2-star hotel. But the positives far outweigh the negatives, especially as we then spent another week in a 3-star hotel on the north coast and thus have a direct comparison. We were a bit unlucky that the Calypso was opening for the season on the day we arrived, May 1st, only 3 of 50 rooms were occupied and a few "childhood" (=winter) illnesses occurred during these days, such as the defective hot water heater. For the sake of simplicity, I will list all the pros and cons as follows. Pros: Quiet location Small complex with short distances Family-run business Lovingly designed, beautiful garden Hotel's own car park Matala village center within walking distance Clean rooms Separate terraces on the ground floor Clotheslines and pegs on the terrace Large TV Refrigerator in the room Fly screens on the room windows Large wardrobe Very friendly staff Good coffee machine at breakfast Wheat beer on offer Cons: No hot water for 3 days Several power outages Room near the pool bar can be noisy (wasn't in operation yet) Uncomfortable mattress No enclosed dining room, extremely drafty in cool weather Continental breakfast buffet, so little choice Inadequate tea selection at breakfast (black tea or camomile tea) Hot food from the buffet is usually tasty, but extremely boring, as there is only one meat/fish dish with 3 side dishes Salad buffet is always the same with a few exceptions Frequent repetitions to use up leftovers Conclusion: We would come again, but then only book B&B instead of half board and go into the village for dinner.

A pleasant and quiet hotel with a beautiful garden, nice swimming pool, the sunbeds have seen their best days. After a while your back hurts. The food could also be better, breakfast the same every day, no variation. The evening meal is also mediocre. But all in all a good and simple hotel with a good atmosphere. Very friendly staff.

The atmosphere, the location and the service are really good and recommendable and made up for a lot of what we criticize below. The food (buffet) was not that great, not very varied. The beds and the rooms could also be a bit more comfortable.
