Popular Matera 4-star Hotels

Very good hotel, very convenient in the central area of Matera. Follow the hotel's travel guidelines, reach the main church square and call the hotel. The hotel will send someone to help with luggage. Because there are steps, luggage service is very needed. The rooms are fully equipped, the bathrooms are modernly decorated, the equipment is very good, and the living is comfortable. Hotel service is also very good. The key is to play Matera, all need to walk, up and down, the hotel location is also very important. Because the hotel itself has a small number of rooms, the price is relatively reasonable, after all, it needs to be equipped with a certain scale of service facilities. Such as the hotel restaurant (Figure 1) is great. Because I had two breakfasts there, I didn't choose dinner. I went to the only Michelin-star restaurant in Matera (Figure 5). Because it was Michelin, the price was high, but unfortunately it cost 150 euros/person for the package. It was actually seven points full. What a find! We stayed for our 30th Anniversary and we were treated royally (thank you, we really appreciated all you did for us, you went above and beyond). We’ve never stayed in a hotel like it, the location was fantastic, the rooms were built in caves and had everything you wished for. The breakfast was outstanding and you ate whilst a pianist played in the corner of the room. All the staff were attentive and friendly, arranging tour guides and recommending great restaurants ensuring a memorable stay. A true haven of comfort and elegance, highly recommended for discerning travellers!

The hotel has a very nice lobby and common areas; the comfortable, clean rooms, drawing attention to some details (like air conditioning not work, a little noisy). The hotel has a parking area, and the hotel has a parking area.

To be honest, I was skeptical about this one. I needed to book the hotel last minute (like literally the previous night), so seeing an old-looking building (probably constructed in the 1980s) was not really encouraging BUT I wanted to see Matera, so I went ahead. The hotel surprised me and by a lot. First of all - yes, the building is old BUT all inside is renovated, so all is great. The rooms are good in size (not too small at all, just right) and everything is very clean. You have a full minibar if you want something and the hotel has a working restaurant and staff at reception 24/7. The breakfast is phenomenal (like, literally anything any traveler could want) and the staff are helpful and friendly. The best thing about the hotel is the location. Basically, there is no other hotel in Matera which is closer to the Sassi and the historical center. You just need 5 minutes of slow walking (entrance to the old town square is just behind the hotel :) ) and you are at the viewpoint and the cistern. There is a vending machine for snacks and drinks just less than 10 minutes away down the street from the hotel (in the old town) and any sights and amazing places to eat are within the same 5-10 minute distance. If you want to see the historical center of Matera, this is the place to stay (you won't regret it, trust me!). The hotel is very popular with Italians visiting Matera, so keep that in mind and if you are not travelling solo, like me, better book in advance :) The prime location comes with a single downside and a few things to consider (listing them here as they are just things to keep in mind and not something that is a huge issue) - the proximity to the Sassi means you will be quite far away from the bus station (3 kilometers) and the train station (1.5 kilometers). The distance is not that much BUT it is an uphill slope 90% of the time, so if you have a lot of luggage, better take a taxi. I loved it, so there is nothing I can put my finger at as a bad things, really, I just want to continue what I started above with the things you should keep in mind when visiting. If you come by car, make sure to notify the hotel in advance, as it is within a restricted parking area and parking lots are limited. Also be aware that the hotel is busy (as I said, very popular with Italians visiting) and check-in starts at 15.00, so if you come in earlier than that, you may need to wait. The staff would do anything they can to accommodate you early, BUT if you plan on arriving before noon, better notify them, to get your room ready. The hotel also have luggage storage, just so you know. Did I say I loved it? Just to repeat I can't wait to return!

A special experience. Take a taxi for 10 Euros from the long-distance bus station to the hotel. The driver took the initiative to call the hotel staff to help carry the luggage because there are steps to go up. The hotel maintains the most primitive accommodation conditions, mainly lighting by candles. There is no TV. The hot water was out of condition and was not repaired for a while. As compensation, we delayed the check out and left Matera at night. The breakfast was great. The front desk is also very welcoming. Help us boil hot water, print boarding passes, and call a taxi. There are many cave hotels in the area, this one is very authentic and high-quality.

We arrived by car at this new, modern hotel. We could easily park the car in one of the free parking spaces in the fenced area in front of the impressive building. At the reception we were welcomed by a lady who was top friendly and super professional at the same time. When we checked in, we immediately felt warmly welcome. We were given valuable tips for our stay in the city, and we were also helped to book a table for dinner when seats in the restaurants were scarce because of the weekend. The spacious rooms have a creative design. At the same time, they are very homely. Everything is absolutely clean. The beds are comfortable with pleasant pillows. Air conditioning and rain shower are of course also part of the great equipment. At breakfast, we were equally welcomed by brilliant staff who complemented the rich, high-quality buffet with perfect service. We will be back!

We were in this hotel at the beginning of June 24. Everything was absolutely perfect ! First of all, the kindness and commitment of Betty and Ivana on phone who gave us all the necessary informations to facilitate our arrival in Matéra and the journey to the hotel ! Then the warm welcome from Ivana upon our arrival ! The Help from Samir, so kind and available, with our luggage ! And which gives us information about the city. The hotel, ideally located in a quiet area, with a magnificent view on the Paleolithic caves, and which is entirely built in the rocks !! And the rooms, under the vaults, so chic, of exquisite taste, comfortable, where you immediately feels so good ! Finally, the breakfast, copious and varied, which offers fresh and delicious products ! It was an exceptional stay in an exceptional establishment ! We loved it and can’t wait… to come back soon !!

The service we received from Eleonora at Casa Diva was faultless. She was very helpful and provided us with lots of information about Matera (where to park, eat, what to see etc.). As for the property…..Simply stunning! The reception and dining rooms are beautifully decorated. When we entered our cave (the uva suite) it was beyond amazing. Imagine Fred Flintstone won the lottery. Carved out of the rock, the huge room has high ceilings, tasteful decor, two comfortable double beds (in separate areas), and fabulous clean and modern bathroom. There’s even a mini ‘en-suite’ cave with a Jucuzzi bath. Another door leads to a large characterful terrace (shared with one other suite). The town of Matera should be on every bucket list, and is as friendly as it is unique. We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend a stay at Casa Diva.
