My Mom and I recently stayed for two nights at the Yankee Trail Motel located on Route 3 in Holderness New Hampshire, across the road from White Oak Pond, and near Squam Lake. This 10-unit motel is a unique place in that it has all the positives of a simple motel— convenient pull-off from the road, all rooms on the street level, the ease of backing your car right up to your door, easy access to the outside. But do not be fooled. This little gem brings the idea of a motel to a whole new level. Number one, and hugely important, the rooms are impeccably clean. I can honestly say that this was the cleanest lodging that I have ever stayed at. There was nary a speck of dust or grime in our room, thanks to the woman behind the scenes, Beth, who cleans and changes over the room after each party leaves. Our spacious room had everything you could want- a place to hang your keys next to the door, hooks to hang your jackets on the other side of the door, little shelves to place your belongings, a comfortable bed, plenty of fresh towels, a refrigerator, a Keurig coffee maker with plenty of coffee supplies and a little bistro-like table and 2 chairs just outside of the room where we could sit, drink early morning hot coffee, enjoy the mountain air and fall foliage, and plan the day. The obvious care and attention to detail and design by Charlene and Kevin, the owners of this motel, is apparent throughout the whole establishment. Included in the cost of the stay was a made-to-order breakfast in a separate restaurant, just steps from our cozy room. Colleen the chef is ready and able to whip up anything you could imagine- from omelettes with cheese and vegetable filling to French toast or pancakes, bacon, sausage and real homefries! This meal was hearty and delicious. Although closed when we visited in the Fall, there is an outdoor pool. There is a fire pit which would be lovely to sit by , enjoy a cool evening and feel the warmth of the flames. The owners are developing a walking path on the 10.5 acre property behind the motel. They are full of ideas, and apparently are always maintaining and improving this well-loved slice of paradise. I highly recommend the Yankee Trail Motel!
