Hotels Near Mercury Fountain in Mexico City

Hotel with excellent location (a square of the Palace of Fine Arts and the Central Axis Lazaro Cardenas), perfect for walking tourism or take it as a base for different exits. The hotel was very comfortable and very comfortable. The best of all is the location and there is a xxo, a 7elev, a savings pharmacy, one of similar, and more than 10 places to eat less than a square.

We were booked in this hotel by our airline after a very long, hard day. We hadn't eaten since breakfast and had a terribly stressful day of standing for hours and hours in the chaos of the airport during a covid crisis. We thought a ”Hotel Ritz” near the zocolo would offer a nice respite with a good meal before heading back to a rebooked flight in the early morning. But, alas, it was not to be. The staff who greeted us were very nice and professional. But our room was down a long, stark hallway and despite being in an old, historic building, there was zero character inside. The room was functional, though the shower was only lukewarm. When we went to the restaurant, which had all of the charm of a school cafeteria, and gave them our voucher for $600 pesos, they gave us a worn printout with a small selection of meals, then told us only 4 options were available. None were anything we would choose. We had planned to buy drinks with dinner, but they made us sign a receipt saying we had spent all $600 pesos ($30 U.S.) before even serving our food, which would have maybe cost $300 p. tops off a real menu. I ate part of a rubbery piece of chicken with a small wilted salad and my husband had a sandwich on white bread. Afterward, we walked somewhere else for food and drinks, which we should have done to begin with. We passed one other family eating in the hotel and noticed they had McDonalds take-out. Later, we checked their regular menu, which had many options that would have fit easily into the $600p budget. The treatment felt insulting. We had been given taxi vouchers to and from the hotel as well. At reception, we requested they schedule our morning taxi, which they assured us they would do. I got up early to double check with the morning reception that it had been scheduled, and they said yes - it was on its way. The hotel is on a section of street that is pedestrian-only, so we walked our luggage to the nearest spot for auto traffic and waited. The taxi never came. Finally, my husband went back to the hotel to ask for help and was told to call an Uber. It was clear that they had not called the taxi for us, and we lost almost an hour of time getting to the airport because of it. Oh yes, and the elevator buttons do not work. And the walls are extremely thin. Someone had sick kids nearby and the screaming and coughing echoed loudly through the halls all night. We could hear every flush and every conversation in that corridor. Most MX hotels have solid brick and stucco walls that block sound, but not this one. The Centro area is wonderful, and worth staying in for a night or two, but I recommend the Best Western Hotel Majestic. We stayed in a suite there at the beginning of our trip and our giant room was beautiful, overlooking the zocolo and the staff were great. The rate was good, too. The hotel is well located. But when I arrived, the receptionist was not there. The security guard who had to be marking the person in charge and taking photos of my reservation was very kind. That is the detail. The receptionist was not there. Fixed by security guard. But in that it failed them. And in my reservation it did not say if it had air conditioning or not. Which I didn't have. Just a fan. The elevator seems to have a turbo. It goes up and down very sharp. Excellent in cleanliness.

If you are looking for beauty of the old kind, a pleasant stay and a great location. This is the place to go. Although the room we used was small, it was practical and the decoration and lighting extraordinaire. The wedding party Saturday night did not keep us awake, although it could be heard. The service by Mr. Ramón Cobos is commendable. He went out of his way to move out bags in and out of storage as many times as it was needed. Breakfast in the premises are not recommended. Fortunately, there are many great places to eat within a 15 minute walk. We arrived past midnight, the door was opened promptly, before we dispatched the Uber service, and the registration was a breeze. So was check out. Highly recommended, we will be back.

We stayed at this hotel and it was our first time in Mexico City. It felt safe and secure since guests need to use their key to be allowed into the lobby. It’s conveniently located to most of the places we wanted to visit. At night time, it’s quiet, at least, we didn’t hear noise in our room. The breakfast was really good as well. The staff are all very friendly and greet everyone. There’s a cafe and seafood restaurant attached to the hotel. The bathrooms do not have a lot of space, almost like closet size. For the price and the location where it’s situated, it was worth the price and definitely will stay again.

The Novotel Mexico City Centro Histórico is a new hotel. Its newness shows in any number of ways, both good and bad. First the good: Staff were all friendly. And my room was shiny new and free of signs of wear. Everything in the room worked perfectly. It is true that the room was rather small and that the view was mostly of a blank wall. Since I was by myself and did not spend much time in the room during the day, these latter issues didn’t bother me very much. There were, however, some issues that were also perhaps related to the hotel’s newness. The cleaning staff didn’t empty the wastebasket on the first day and didn’t replenish the Nespresso pods on the second. Perhaps they should start working from a checklist … ? Also, breakfast was only available half an hour later than advertised. And, oddly, only certain guests were offered omelettes. And, as someone who doesn’t eat meat, I was bothered by a cheese-and-luncheon-meat plate on which the cheese and luncheon meat were piled on top of each other. I would also have appreciated labels on the four stew-like dishes on offer—I couldn’t tell what they contained. There is also the issue of billing. When I checked in at 3 p.m., I was asked to pay the entire bill—no problem there. But, when I arrived in my room, I found an e-mail from hotel management informing me that, because the hotel was extra busy, I’d already been charged for day 1. It’s true that I’d opted for a “flexible” rate which required me to agree to pay for the first day whether I showed up or not, but it was a little startling to be charged for a no-show before the earliest possible check-in time—and then charged again when I checked in. It took a week for the double charge to disappear from my credit-card statement. I can’t believe Accor would have approved of this billing procedure. The thing that most bothered me about the hotel was the absence of a minibar. The TripAdvisor website—and also the websites of several booking agencies—all claim that rooms in the Novotel Mexico City Centro Histórico have minibars. The Accor website, I’ll admit, doesn’t. But I guess I’ve come to expect that hotels of a certain class would have minibars. And I missed having one, not for overpriced drinks, but for the groceries I bought. I wasn’t, in other words, very enthusiastic about the Novotel Mexico City Centro Histórico, although I acknowledge that, with a few changes, it could most definitely be turned into a very good hotel.

The bell boy service is really embarazing, they want to help and touch the luggage 5 Meters before your final destination. Nevertheless in the critical points, is not possible to find one of them. They are every time in other places or occupied talking with other bell boys.

The room is good, clean, simple facilities, good service attitude, friends feedback that the hotel is very polite, and more convenient, looking forward to the next opportunity to come again!
