We had to go to a family wedding at Lough Rynn . We had a fabulous time the food was amazing and the staff were brilliant. Our room was very spacious and very comfortable. The following morning we had breakfast which was delicious. I run a small B&B so I would be very critical but honestly I was delighted my husband too loved breakfast and my daughter said pancakes were delicious. Thank you so much. Linda

This is my first review I’ve ever written in all my years of travelling and staying in some of the loveliest hotels in the world but I feel I need to share our experience. We were really looking forward to the whole experience but the staff and service made sure this was not to be. We brought our 2 young kids as it was a family occasion so when booking the hotel we requested a family room in the hotel so the kids could go back to the room whenever they liked within the safety of the premises, however, when we arrived we we told we were in a room in a separate building 300 metres away from the main building which totally ruined the day for us as we had to try and deal with the hotel staff as to see why we were put out there with no satisfaction. The room was very basic with single glazed windows that were letting in drafts. Really not a room you would expect for a castle experience, more like a holiday inn. The service was dreadful apart from one or two of the younger staff which really indicates that the management is the problem. The bar staff at the event itself were very poor and rude, smashing bottles and just disappearing. At breakfast the hotel couldn’t facilitate for all at the breakfast serving and we had to be served in the library which we did not have an issue with but the morning manager made us feel like it was our fault that they didn’t have the space and was very rude to us and others. To conclude, if you are booking a family occasion please think twice and shop around.

I Attended Lough Rynn this afternoon with my partner Laura for a festive afternoon tea something special for us to do over Christmas . We've visited the estate numerous time's over the past 5/6 year's for staying overnight multiple times we've made the castle our treat day or night away . Each visit was always as good or better then the last l have in the past both commended and congratulated the staff and the location as a whole on the level of service provided it was this that always brought us back time after time. However today's experience left a lot to be desired. We seated at 1.10 the member of staff told us they'd be right back with menu's for us to look over however after 40 minutes passed I had to ask if we were going to be served where we were seated or if we were waiting for another area to open up . This young member of staff was more than surprised that we had been waiting so long and in his defence he did his best to apologise for the situation but by that point our enthusiasm for the occasion had been replaced by frustration and disappointment. Unfortunately the disappointment didn't end there when our afternoon tea was served the small Brie and red onion jam tarts were cold in the middle and the pasty was soft like they had been reheated in a microwave rather than an oven. Then when we asked for more tea the pot was brought away and just refilled with water and obviously not fresh tea as it was so weak it was basically coloured water. Yes we were given a complimentary drink and the young member of staff was very apologetic but ultimately it's unlikely we will return to the location again anytime soon. Our last visit was earlier this year when we stayed for 2 nights had dinner and enjoyed wonderful service that would be difficult to rival. Today's experience was so incredibly different poor service staff standing in doorways on phones laughing and joking loudly not something we've become used to at Lough Rynn. Also to add our poor experience was not an isolated one the table next to us which had 6 people who were also having afternoon tea were served only 2 of their 3 towers and 2 plates of sandwiches. A gentleman at that table also had to approach a member of staff to ask when the remainder of their order would be served her response was and I quote Oh I forgot. The standards of service have fallen at this once fantastic location ultimately left really disappointed by the experience €70 not well spent.

We stayed here a few times over the last few years and its consistent in both value and the very good experience it offers. The room was spacious ,clean and has everything you require. The staff very friendly and attentive and the food in the sandstone restaurant both at dinner and breakfast excellent. The menus offer a wide variety to suit everyone. The garden walks are well maintained. The old castle may provide problems for people with reduced mobility. Overall a very pleasant experience and highly recommended offering value for money.

Grim experience. Attended a wedding here and will never make same mistake again. Arrived at Hotel on a wet and windy day to be told to park in a distant courtyard and had to endure a long and very wet walk to the hotel entrance, not a good start. The drinks reception was held in a lovely room but unfortunately it was much too small for the size of crowd, crammed in together with the wait staff having to try and serve canapes and drinks. Chaotic is the only way to describe it. The canapes mentioned when they arrived were poor, lukewarm cheap tasting rubbish not fit to be served at any wedding. We eventually got to the dining room for the meal and wished afterwards that we hadn't bothered. The Menu was lovely but unfortunately a work of fiction, the food presented was no relation to what was described on said menu. A bouchee of chicken and mushroom with a chablis sauce was horrendous, I could actually smell the bouillon paste used to make the sauce before the waitress actually placed it in front of me, it was terrible. Worse was to follow. The vegetable soup was poor and again smelled of bouillon paste. I left the soup thinking that the main course would be better, how wrong I was. The fillet of beef was no relation to any beef that I have ever had. It was so bad that I cannot really describe the awfulness of it, just disgusting. The beef came in a congealing pool of what was meant to be gravy but it did not taste anything like a normal gravy, the stench of yet again the bouillon paste was foul. The fillet of beef was inedible so overdone it must have been kept in a warm oven for an inordinate amount of time, absolutely terrible. The accompanying vegetables are better left unmentioned. We consoled ourselves with the thought of dessert, but shouldn't have. How any professional kitchen could make such a mess of something as simple as a trio of desserts is beyond my understanding it was just woeful, even the coffee served was lukewarm at best. I travel a lot for work and have eaten in a lot of different establishments some excellent some good and indeed some not so good but I do not think that I have ever had a meal anywhere ever that was as poor as served to me in this hotel. We stayed overnight, the room was ok, but well overpriced, we had a wet walk to get to it as it was a considerable distance from hotel entrance, the bed was comfortable, bathroom floor could do with a good scrub. I was delighted to drive away from this hotel consoling myself with the knowledge that I will never visit again

Superb, period. This hotel is a gem, absolutely fabulous. I was searching for a hotel in the Athlone area and this property popped up. I jumped at the opportunity to stay in a castle! Intended to just stay overnight, but this property is so impressive I opted for a second night. Service is outstanding, Room was well appointed and spacious, very comfortable bed, good lighting. The "drawing-room" is spectacular and a "must see." Restaurant is superb with a varied menu and delightful staff. You need to book your meals in advance. All told, this property is simply superb. Treat yourselves.
