The hotel is incredibly clean and looks brand new (it is actually 1.5 years old). The room (rooms 510 & 410) was spacious, clean and decorated very nicely. The shower water pressure was incredible and the beds very comfortable! But the very best part of this hotel is the staff! I booked 2 rooms for 2 seperate nights and Andres at the front desk made it easy and kept us in the same room. Vanessa, Maximillian and the gentleman working with Andres in the evening made a tour to Punta del Este that we didn’t was possible, possible. Thank you all for your help! I will not ever even look for another hotel for my next stay in Montevideo. I will only stay at the Hotel Costanero! They went above and beyond and the location by the shore is perfect! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT

Awful service - this hotel is not worthy of even 1 star. Their staff are not trained properly and ruined our stay in Montevideo, don’t waste your money here there are plenty of better and cheaper hotels available. 1) The hotel lost our booking and blamed it on us, making us wait 30 mins at reception at 10pm at night for our room 2) The window in our room was broken, we informed them in the morning and when we came back to the hotel that evening we were informed we couldn’t open the window and it was slightly fixed but they would fix it tomorrow (no offer of compensation or apology) 3. The reception staff repeatedly ignored our phone calls when we were trying to clarify the room bill (I called at 15 min intervals for 1 hour so it was obvious they weren’t picking up our room) - never in all the hotels I have stayed at around the world have reception staff repeatedly ignored a room call, it is the worst service possible 4. They tried to charge us more than was originally agreed for our room at checkout and nearly made us miss our flight I have stayed in hotels all across South America and this was the worst service I have ever received - do yourself a favour and save the headache of the poorly trained staff and book another hotel.

Outstanding
BBryce van de LaarWe spent two nights in Alquimiste and we never wanted to leave! The guesthouse which is almost 100 years old is full of antique furniture, original artwork, and even has a lookout tower on the 4th floor boasting 360 views of the Carrasco neighborhood.
It is a 2 minute walk from the beach and very close to some of Montevideo’s most famous restaurants. Carolina and Mark are delightful and happy to help with anything.
The restaurant is lovely, and the breakfasts is a real treat. Hot croissants, freshly baked scones with marmalade and cream cheese, freshly squeezed orange juice, and beautifully plated granola we’re just some of our favorites.
Staying at Alquimiste, you really feel like you are apart of something special!
EEJ9Everything was excellent. The room had recently been redecorated and was very clean, the restaurant is superb, hotel staff was very friendly and pointed us to interesting places in the city. It is at a central location in the city so it's great if you're planning to explore by walking on the rambla. We hope to visit again soon!

GGuest UserAs soon as I arrived at the hotel I was petrified looking at how gorgeous it is. We were really well received by Mr. Rodrigo Tango (Night Manager) that made our check-in and provided us with the BEST Hotel room I ever visited. The stay was perfect, room, view amenities, comfort, breakfast ... everything. Thank you so much for the opportunity to stay some days with you!
GGuest UserAs I checked in last Monday at the Aloft, Tobias Bradley, one of the Front Desk Managers, noticed it was my birthday. From then on, he made my stay, a very special one. When you’re away from home on a special occasion, it could feel very lonely, so, every single detail, was greatly appreciated. I also want to thank the rest of the staff, specially, Gustavo, at the restaurant, who always had a warm smile and a kind gesture. In addition, this hotel has a perfect location, in an upscale area at Punta Carretas, practically next to a big shopping mall, surrounded by great gastronomy, and a block away from Rio de la Plata. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for such a wonderful experience. I recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.
GGuest UserThe rooms are comfortable, and although they are not that big, I had plenty of space. The temperature in the room was quite comfortable, so I didn’t even turn the heater on in any day. Breakfast was nice, and the “doce de leite” was incredibly good. The only things that would benefit from improvement would be: restaurant (the food at dinner was not worthy the money at all), availability of cork screw and wine glasses in the room. I wanted to open a wine bottom and the hotel sent someone to open the bottle for me, instead of sending the cork screw…
VValeria PennaThe hotel was very comfortable and the rooms were very comfortable. We had booked with a month in advance, confirmed by phone before arrival, everything came perfect until we arrived and did not let my husband and children come in. I wasn't at the hotel yet, but I had already warned that I who made the reservation was coming a little late. The first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the first time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second time the second Then we got the room and it is clear that when we entered there were 3 football players, which had also happened to them, they had found someone in the room. We were very bad as we were 4 in two beds. After a 14-hour trip. But no one succeeded in giving us an explanation or solution
GGuest UserThe location is perfect, if you are travelling in and out of Montevideo by bus. And at 50$ per night it is a bargain. Otherwise try and stay somewhere else. The hotel is not a 4* by all means. Noone speaks a word of English (I do speak broken Spanish, still difficult), housekeeping never showed up. I checked out one day early and although I sent an official request from booking and asked at reception, they took the whole amount.
GGuest UserThe hotel staff is great. The rooms are huge but need renovation. My bath tube had problems with water drainage. Taking a shower while the water reached my ankle. Not pleasant. The breakfast is fair enough. But had another issue. I asked for a fried egg and the waitress denied. “No more eggs”. A few minutes later a local guest asked and got it on a plate. As I questioned the double standard there was no understandable answer. Sad experience. At night the street are very dark around the hotel and there are plenty homeless people.
GGuest UserSummary of my experience - booked 2 rooms, a pent-house and an executive room. We were 4 adults - checked in - went to our rooms - rooms were dirty, smelly, old, furniture full of scratches, toilet with mould and bad smell, sticky walls, dirty floors, food smell from years of average cleaning, non-functioning AC, small bed. - in one of the rooms there were blankets and bed cover on the floor - in summary, I booked the hotel in good faith, based on the photos on their web site, which turned to be extremely misleading. Photos have to be 10+ years old - went down to reception - had a word with the manager - he agreed to fully refund us - we left and looked for an alternative accommodation All this happened in 45 mins aprox. Horrendous place. Kudos to staff who did agree to refund us even without trying to convince us to stay. They didn't seem to be surprised by the way.
