What an amazing place, we have just returned from a 3 night break and it exceeded our expectations Accommodation We had a log cabin which had an upstairs for additional sleeping, a sauna and tea/coffee making facilities. The lodge was warm and cosy and just perfect. There are no TVs in the lodges but we just played music from our phones. Facilities The main reception was also the dining room and main area. This did get quite busy at meal times but there was 2 meal sitting depending on your accommodation number. Between meals there was plenty of space to relax. There was a small onsite shop that had some souvenirs and snacks. We were full board our son is very fussy, I am vegetarian and my husband is gluten and dairy intolerant and we all managed to eat 3 meals a day. There is a limited selection but everything is fresh, very tasty and well presented. The location of the hotel is amazing across a small road from the Inari lake with breathtaking views. Every single staff member was polite and very friendly. Activities We did several during our stay and were really impressed with how well organised these were. Most activities included a warm drink - the berry juice is so good and cookies. One activity included lunch by the fire. On every activity they ensured they had a cookie or lunch that my husband could eat. The little touches made all the difference. We had the most magical Christmas holiday and would not hesitate to return or recommend this hotel to anyone. If you are looking for a commercial location with churned out food then this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a true Finnish experience with amazing hospitality and freshly prepared meals then you will have found the perfect place.

We stayed at Nellim for 3 nights. Everything was superb. The setting is magical and even though it was cold, it did not stop us from venturing out and walking about. We stayed in a Wilderness room which was comfortable, clean and cosy. The buffet breakfast and dinner offered a wide selection and the food was delicious. We did the snowmobile and the Aurora Camp and it was such fun. Our guide Henri was great and took us out on a snowmobile adventure and stopping off so we could see the beautiful landscapes and reindeer. You are provided with Winter clothing so you can comfortably do the activities. We saw the lights on all the nights we stayed there. All the staff are friendly and helpful.

We booked our stay at the wilderness hotel through Scot Dunn .3 nights for £9000 so we were expecting something wow ! We had log cabin with a loft sleeping area . Very basic . Empty mini bar , not even milk to make a tea / coffee . Dinghy bathroom with permanently dimmed lighting so you could hardly see to wash or shave . No housekeeping so make your own bed . Ran out of toilet paper too. The hotel facilities were non existent . The bar / restaurant area doubled up as the social area too. Very limited comfortable seating so use a dining table ! Considering you have 3 hours daylight it would have been nice to have somewhere decent to sit during the day as there is no tv in the room . The food was dreadful , more like a school dinner buffet . The choice was extremely limited , the presentation awful and the quality extremely poor . Some of the staff could do with going to a hospitality charm school too ! The most disappointing aspect of the trip was the ‘activities ‘ ! Eg , meet the reindeer , a 90 second ride around a 200 metre track ! The aurora night trip .. you end up in a clearing in the forest surrounded by a variety of small wooden chalet huts ( garden sheds) . The one we used had no electricity. We sat in the dark for 15 minutes while the guides lite a log fire in middle of hut which eventually provided the heat and light ( it was - 20 deg c outside ) they then ( under ) cooked the worst pancakes ever over the fire . No sign of the lights regrettably so back to the hotel 2 hours later . The special audience with father Xmas was just ok but was hurried and the man himself struggled for a yo-ho-ho jolly conversation with our 5 year old daughter despite the crib sheet we had sent a month prior . In summary everything was very half hearted and shabby considering it is supposed to be magical experience . I m sure there must be better value trips around that offer far more than this for the not insignificant money we spent here. Avoid this hotel and this trip ! Consider other options All in all a very disappointing trip ,

It's my 2nd time with Wilderness Hotel nellim and everything is as good as the first. This time I was with family and we had a very pleasant stay. Hospitality was perfect, staff were friendly and helpful, especially Ivana, our receptionist, who ensured we were taken care of well. We were booked for half board for 5 days and the food exceeded everyone's expectations. The dinner menu never repeated and all were amazed by the variety. Unfortunately we were in early winter season so some of the activities we wanted were not available.

The hotel is in a beautiful traditional log style but with modern facilities, set in the Finnish wilderness. Our group had individual rooms, about 30m walk from the main hotel building. The rooms were warm and comfortable with everything we needed. Warning to British guests though… no kettles or coffee machines in these rooms, so take a travel kettle if you like your early cuppa in bed! The main building was warm and comfortable, with a great dining room, bar and lounge chairs. All Buffet style meals were tasty and plentiful. Not a huge selection but choices for all dietary needs with useful labels in English. The staff (multi national) were friendly and helpful. We took part in several activities, husky sledding, meet the reindeer and snowmobiling too. All great fun and the guides were excellent. The icing on the cake was the Aurora appearance. Cannot fault this trip at all, from the collection at Ivalo airport to the drop off afterwards. Do pack plenty of warm wool socks and perhaps some silk glove liners if you feel the cold!
