Would not recommend here and will never be back! To begin with we received an email with a code, no where did it state we had to go into the bar O’Hares to receive our key, we didn’t even need this code. Once we finally got into our room we got settled and realised it was filthy!! The shower head was all covered in a grimey scum, the bed sheets were covered in stains, the bed sheet, duvet & pillow cases seemed to have make up on them!? There was no soap in the bathroom (we had to buy one!!) the kettle was dirty, the tray it sat on with the mugs had nothing but sugar and coffee spilled over it! Also the mantle piece had coffee stains over it. I wouldn’t have been setting anything onto the self in the wardrobe either as this was covered in a layer of dust & the curtains were also dirty. The bathroom door was broken so the only way to get this to stay closed was to lock it. I’m not sure anyone really even cleaned the room maybe just made the bed. We were booked into a superior double on the first floor as it was all that was left at the time and I’m not sure what we really paid extra for as the room was extremely noisy the next morning with people coming and going, the door doesn’t even reach to the bottom of the floor which probably doesn’t help the noise problem and the window lets in a serious draft. Parts of the carpet were also worn into holes. I think the rooms are in serious need of a refurb as under the sink in the bathroom just looks like a mess. The room itself was spacious and has so much potential, full length mirror & the bed was comfy but unfortunately the dirt out ways any of the good and for the price you really expect it to at least be clean! We did go into O’Hares and spoke to a member of staff in there who agreed that no room should be sitting like that and after seeing the room agreed it wasn’t up to scratch, he said himself the rooms are expensive and he wouldn’t have slept in the bed or used the shower. He apologised and did seem annoyed that the room was sitting in this state, he was able to get the bed sheets changed but unfortunately there was still stains on the pillows and duvet cover, he did check up with us and see if we were any happier to which we let him know there was still stains but obviously there isn’t much more he could do, he did apologise a good number of times and we understand it wasn’t his fault. Would avoid at all costs if you want a clean place to stay, this is the furthest thing from a Boutique accommodation I’ve ever stayed in. We also had no option but to stay as the two nights previous we were staying in glamping pods near Newcastle and had booked an extra night here just to extend the stay in Newcastle since it was Easter, before checking in I had had a couple of west coast coolers and my boyfriend had a couple of magners (not drunk or tipsy but not legal to drive) The pictures also don’t show the full extent of the dirt but it was bad and I’m not fussy I don’t see one hair on a bed sheet and th

The outside of this hotel is fabulous. A grand’ old house in appearance. The view from our room over the Mournes is spectacular. Sadly the rest of our experience leaves a lot to be desired. The fireplaces on the ground floor of the hotel have beautiful sandstone surrounds however they have cheap tacky electric fires installed which really ruin the character of the place. The dining room has lovely oak paneling on the walls but is ruined by the cheap polystyrene roof tiles on the ceiling. The food for dinner was poor. The roast lamb was grey on arrival. The braised beef was chewy. The vegetables were boiled dry unseasoned . A bit of butter would have gone a long way. Our room has a beautiful aspect with views over the mountains but there is a damp smell. The whole hotel is dated, damp and cold. The residents lounge feels like an old peoples home. In summary whilst this hotel is in a beautiful setting it is overpriced, understaffed and is in dire need of significant updating and investment. A few small changes would make an enormous difference. Like open turf / coal fires or even gas but a real flame at least. A new chef with a more exciting approach to food with flavor and texture. A rethink of the residents lounge. The TV is from the 1970s This place has so much potential but really needs a fresh eye to improve its standards. I do hope that this is helpful because this place could be fantastic but in todays competitive market I am not sure it can survive in its current state.

Spent a night with friends in a triple room which had everything you needed including tea/coffee facilities. Bathroom just needs a bit of tlc. But what makes this hotel special are the staff.. Absolutely outstanding customer service delivered with a courteous smile.. An asset to the hotel. Music in the bar on Sunday night was brilliant. Also hotel in a great location.
