Nice hotel. Staff are cordial but the amenities need to be reviewed and made up to date. No landline to ring the reception for any service needed, had to go all the way downstairs to the reception to make a complaint on a toilet that’s refused to flush. Shower not working, couldn’t flush the toilet until I applied much pressure on the flush handle. Would’ve been great if the amenities are up to date (for the lack of a better word).

During the summer vacation, the prices are favorable, the rooms are all of the same standard size, and the prices vary depending on the view. Clean and hygienic, not big, but practical. I saw that the price in September is quite expensive, costing 3K. It is very close to the Westgate Shopping Center in Oxford and is very convenient for all kinds of food. It is also very convenient to reach various colleges in Oxford within walking distance. The breakfast at the hotel is very good. In addition to the various delicacies on display, you can also ask the waiter for some freshly made omelet egg rolls, which taste better than Hilton hotels. Produced by Marriott, the quality is assured.

The clerk is very friendly. The room is not big but relatively clean. It is quite far from the city. You need to walk a little to buy food. It is a residential area and relatively quiet. The shop is relatively exquisite and can be considered a British characteristic. Although it is small, it has all the necessary features. There are three parking spaces in the front and back yards, and they can also park in the one next door that also belongs to them.

Returned from 4 night stay at Hawkwell House Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. To begin with I booked direct with the hotel, not wanting the corporate Mecure website and got exactly what I wanted... great customer service. Chavi was extremely helpful. The hotel itself is well situated, about 10-15 minutes on bus to Oxford City Centre (stop on Iffley turn). The hotel was clean, staff friendly, food good for both breakfast (good choice) and evening. We ate in the bar twice. Only a couple of possible notes of potential improvement. It would be handy to have a note in the room to remind guests of meal times (breakfast). I realise most paper was removed under Covid but there was an Oxfordshire brochure. Perhaps something to program into the TV? Similar to another review, a water pump type noise would come on in our room in the early hours of the morning. This sounded like the air con/heater and whilst not major it may need investigating. It's similar to work's and we didn't need to use anyway but perhaps instructions may be beneficial for guests? Overall thoroughly enjoyed our stay and if ever Oxford way again would definitely come back! Thank you.

Looking at previous reviews of this hotel, I can only think that our experience here was an unusual one but we were quite disappointed with our stay. Our room (3) was tiny (in hindsight we should have booked a more expensive one), and was uncomfortably small for two people with nowhere to put bags down or hang up clothes apart from a few hangers on coat hooks. The lighting was poor and it had a very rattly industrial fire door into the bathroom, which seemed amusing at first, but wasn’t quite so funny in the middle of the night when it clanged shut if you let it go! In fairness, other rooms on the websight looked gorgeous, I wish we’d booked one of those! Not the hotel’s fault, we just expected our room to be better for the price. Also disappointing was that the food on both nights was below average with limited menu choice and lots of dishes being unavailable.. This was a shame because it was my birthday ‘treat’ but fell far short of what we expected from a so called ‘luxury’ hotel. I can only think they were having a couple of off days and we were just unlucky. On a positive note, it’s a very eclectic place, decor is rustic, bordering on scruffy but still interesting, the staff are very friendly and the bar and restaurant have a warm and welcoming atmosphere, but when we were there the poor staff were run off their feet which resulted in patchy service and difficulty reserving a table, However, despite the problems the staff were very nice people especially the bar manager who tried her best to make up for the various menu shortfalls and discounted our drinks and food bill as an apology, which we very much aporeciated, but sadly I still don’t look back on our stay and feel that it was all that great, not really as special as we hoped it would be given all the hype. Based on our experience I wouldn’t recommend it or go again.

We enjoyed the carvery at Hilton Garden Inn Abingdon this weekend. We were a party of 10, with ages ranging from late teens to early 80s. The hotel is lovely, with a warm welcome on arrival from the staff at reception. We sat in the bar for a while as we waited for all of our party to arrive. The bar is welcoming and comfortable and the drinks reasonably priced. At 12:30 we made our way to the restaurant and waited for a while to be seated. This was our first visit to the carvery and it would have been useful for a member of staff to explain the process to us - but we watched what other customers were doing and followed suit. The 3 course lunch is all self service and drinks are obtained from the bar. For starter there was a choice of soup with homemade bread and salad with cold meats. I had the salad and it was very nice, especially the potato salad which was delicious. The carvery was fantastic. With a choice of pork, beef and chicken, potatoes, cauliflower cheese, mixed vegetables and Yorkshire puddings. Unfortunately some of the serving platters were empty when we got there and we had to wait a while for them to be refilled. I imagine this was due to the sitting starting at 12:30 so an immediate rush of people. The beef was absolutely delicious, as were the potatoes and the Yorkshire puddings were truly scrumptious. I understand from one of my guests that the chicken was perfection. The vegetables were undercooked for my taste but the cauliflower cheese was lovely. We had a really great meal. There were a few improvements that could be made to improve the experience but nothing to put me off going back for another family birthday in a few weeks time.

We have stayed at these hotels in America and was pleased to see they are now available in the U.K. The rooms are large and spacious, with modern decor. The room was extremely clean and the bed comfortable. Air-conditioning, a large TV and kettle is provided, plus adequate storage / wardrobe space. There is a handy phone app that can be used to organise pre-check in and for ordering additional towels and bedding. I was also able to use the chat feature, to speak to the hotel staff ahead of arrival. There is the nice feature of enabling a blue tooth room key, although I was unable to get this to work on my iPhone. The fitness centre is well equipped and the staff very helpful. When booking hotels in the future, the Marriott Courtyard will be my brand of choice.

GGuest UserUnique food, impeccable service! I attended a large dinner in the ballroom. The chandeliers and lighting in the room created a beautiful atmosphere. The servers were kind and attentive. Main course was a unique aubergine dish - something out of the ordinary - and it was wonderfully prepared. I’ve eaten at The Alice for dinner as well as tea, and now I know that banquets are as delicious as the restaurant.

GGuest UserI use many different hotels on a monthly basis however this was my first visit at this hotel. I want to congratulate the team at holiday inn Oxford as I had an enjoyable stay and everything was clean and tidy. I was greeted with a warm welcome and although the hotel was busy the staff were very accommodating. The bar staff were very friendly but I would like to especially mention Lauren who served me with a smile and was very efficient considering how busy the bar was. Thank you for an enjoyable experience and I hope to return soon (14/10/22)

FFeiermanzhangFrom London Airport, drive directly to the hotel. The hotel is in a residential area. The appearance is a house in submit-detach . When you arrive, there is a large car decoration garbage in the yard doorway, which looks a bit messy. The room is still very tidy and should have just been renovated, which looks relatively new and clean. The house is of course an old house with a certain history. The heating and sockets are a bit historical. The sockets are arranged in the ground footing of the house. It is embarrassing to charge. Now everyone has so many electronic devices, it is recommended that the store do more charging sockets. We set a family room, the room is big enough, on the ground floor, there is a floor-to-ceiling window to lead to the back yard, there should be a small inner yard in summer, there is a table to relax, but we arrived in winter, the yard is not arranged. Breakfast is arranged in the small restaurant in the sun room. The food is rich and the environment is warm. You can communicate with other passengers. The manager and waiter are also very enthusiastic and can try their best to help the guests. The traffic is not bad, we basically walk to the central area, about 20 to 25 minutes, the advantage is that you don't have to find a place to park, you can also see the small colleges on both sides along the way. There is not much to eat around, but there is a small bar about 15 minutes walk. It is actually Michelin 1 star. It is a bit expensive, but the taste is very good. The restaurant atmosphere is also very good. The students in the school are discussing entrepreneurial plans. It is very university atmosphere. You can park on the roadside in front of the hotel. Parking is convenient. The manager asked us to park in the small parking lot of the hotel, which feels like home. The small hotel is more free and warm, and enters and exits with a password at night. Overall, it is quite satisfactory. The last two are small bars, and the last one is Zixia on the dusk road.

WwangmaggieThere is a bus station next to the hotel. It is more convenient to go to oxford center. The room size is okay, with plenty of sunlight, clean, and warm. The view from the window is very good. I saw a little squirrel in the morning, and the children liked it very much. However, after the check-in time is 4 o'clock, the check-out time is 10 o'clock, which is really inconvenient. In addition, the room cleaning will only be provided if the stay is more than 5 consecutive days. We have not cleaned the room for three consecutive days. I think it is not very reasonable and needs to be improved. .

GGuest UserWe've just returned after a two-night stay at the Sportsview Guest House. We weren't sure quite what to expect given it was competitively priced, close to Oxford City Centre and offered free parking. Some of the booking partners don't make it clear that parking is on a first-come first-served basis but the information you receive after booking is comprehensive and makes that clear. We arrived late on a Wednesday and there were plenty of spaces for the duration of our stay. Check-in was a breeze and the staff helpful. We had an en-suite room and other than perhaps some minor updates everything of importance was perfect. It was clean throughout, the bed was comfy, the shower worked well and it was quiet. It was an ideal base for which to explore the area. Location couldn't have been much better, a 5 min walk to Folly Bridge where we'd booked a self-drive boat with Salter's Steamers (recommended). Then another 5 mins or so and you're in the heart of Oxford. Oxford is a beautiful and interesting city and we'd certainly recommend a visit and also this guest house.

GGuest UserWe stayed just one night to meet family members for dinner in Oxford. It is very well located for the city cetre. Despite that, it is in a quiet location and we had a good night's rest in a small but comfortable room. It lacks the range of facilites that you may want for a long stay. For example, it has no lounge, restaurant or lifts, which is the only reason I could not give 5 /5 for facilites. What facitlities is does have are good: in room tea and coffee making, television, radio and WiFi. Staff are friendly and helpful. We came by car and used the Park and Ride system, which is excellent. Oxford bus services are good. The hotel is also only a short taxi ride from the station if you go by train. The hotel was ideal for a short stay and we will use it again.

Eellej93We went to visit oxford for a family trip. We arrived at Athena Guest House in the evening where we were left outside in the cold for at least half an hour with elderly grandparents and a baby, while the person there tried to figure out which rooms we were supposed to be staying in. They had ignored previous enquiries my sister had made in the run up to our visit. The lady in charge spoke loudly on the phone and ignored my sister who was trying to ask for help about details she had to fill in. This lady then went on to demand that one person made the payment for the whole group before we saw the bedrooms. It is now clear why, because the rooms were in very poor condition and there was no disability access. The person in our party that is disabled was carried up the stairs and into the property and could not access the sink in her room. I was sent to a different guest house with other members of my party. We were expected to share a bathroom with strangers (during a pandemic), the room was unclean, the floor was peeling, chair ripped and it stank of cigarette smoke. Our fire alarm had been covered in foil to stop the detector working. I refused to share a bathroom with anyone that wasn’t from my party and after this we were moved to a different property down the road from the original house and my entire family, which was upsetting . It still stank of smoke, was still in desperate need of an upgrade and cleaning, the shower was dirty, sky box not working, curtains wouldn’t close fully and the other member of my family had issues with the lock on their door. There was not a single staff member at this property and I felt very intimidated and unsafe. There were people shouting outside the property and banging the doors throughout the night. If I could give them no stars I truly would, it ruined an amazing family trip and left us all very upset. Nothing worse than filthy surroundings and rude/unhelpful staff.
