We stayed for 4 nights at Hotel Riviera during our stay at Rhodes. It is well located and ours was a sea facing room with a balcony. So it was really nice to see the sea while sipping our tea on the balcony. It was great to watch the sunset from our balcony. We walked everywhere and all sight seeing places are at walking distance. Our stay included breakfast, which was the usual fare, eggs, cucumber, tomatoes, olives, either spinach or cheese pie and bread and some assortment of sweets and cookies. We are happy with it. A big shout out to Katarina from the kitchen, she was an absolute sweetheart. When we wanted Spinach pie and only cheese pie was available that day, she actually heated us some spinach pie in the oven and packed it for us. I only wish they had more varieties of black tea like earl grey - I just did not like the tea they had. You do have an option of filling water from the bar, if you request for it. There are restaurants and grocery stores at a 5 minute walking distance and lots of shops too. Now for the mediocre part. The hotel is very dated and I would definitely not call it a 4 star hotel, it is more a 3 star hotel. Everything in the room looks like it is from the 70's. No proper plug points and I had a very long phone charging cord and was hence ok. The room itself was basic, but we were fine with it. We requested for a kettle and extra pillows and got it. You may need to go down multiple times if you want anything from the reception, and that could be an annoyance for some, but it did not matter to us at all. The hotel does have a small elevator. The corridors reeked of smoke, I don't know if smoking was permitted there. The room doors close with a loud bang and we could hear every room door in our floor close. You can hear the neighbors in the others rooms too. But overall, we did get a good sleep. The room was pretty clean and we did not ask for cleaning service thru out our stay and just picked up extra towels and soap from the reception. The reception staff are polite and will answer your questions and will book car and taxi for you if needed, but do not expect too much of customer service. The room safe did not work and I heard the others complaining about the same too, and it had some ancient mechanism and I regretted not calling the front desk to make it work, since we got pick pocketed in Lindos, as we carried all our money with us. Overall it was an OK stay and we were fine with it, we had a good stay.
