Whalley Abbey - Christian Retreat House Offering B&B

I recently had 3 very enjoyable nights stay at Whalley Abbey. It an incredibly welcoming and restful place. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The bedrooms are small and simple but everything you need- comfy bed, hot shower and place to work. The breakfast was very good. The public sitting rooms are very specious and great place to relax and read. I joined in daily prayers and made to feel very welcome by the staff. The grounds are amazing and good place to walk around and relax. Excellent value for money. I will be back.

What a fabulous find! A warm welcome, clean, and tidy room with comfortable beds, and a hot shower. We also had tea, and coffee making facilities in our room too. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the freshly cooked breakfast delicious. The grounds of the Abbey are peaceful and full of history, as is the Abbey itself. Centrally located for great walks and a short stroll into Whalley reveals plenty of shops, cafés and restaurants. Highly recommend, and we would definitely stay again.

I stayed recently with my wife and daughter. We loved it, you stay in the grounds of a ruined abbey in a wonderful old building full of history. The room was clean, beds comfy, the staff super friendly and the breakfast was superb. Its an active retreat for religious people but we never took part in any of that as its also a hotel, we just went for the location and to tour the local area. Inside the reception area is stunning, its well presented and beautifully maintained. The village of Whalley is beautiful, with nice restaurants and bars 3 min walk from the abbey. The surrounding area is nice, as its close to Ribble Valley and Pendle Hill, so plenty of scenery.

We stayed 3 nights as we were exploring the area, Slept with the windows wide open - no traffic noise; not a sound. Bedroom and bathroom clean and simple, and NO telly !! Lovely breakfast. Will certainly stay there again.

Fiona was awful. Apparently the manager. I’ve heard stories about her in the past. She claims she used to be a teacher was a teaching assistant. One of her colleagues had cancer and Fiona visited her. She told the rest of the staff she didn’t want to see anyone else. But Fiona wanted to be the centre of attention whilst the lady dying was upset that no one had visited her. Fiona is an unstable woman and has a lot of issues she needs sorting out. I stayed at the place and she was quite keen for me to be kicked out. I have my own problems but she was ready for me to be homeless again.it’s a lovely place but ruined by Fiona. The room was good and and comfy, just a ridiculous manager. She needs help.

Thanks to all the staff for making my stay very enjoyable. Great place to chill out and just spend some contemplation time. Blackburn room was everything you need for a good night's sleep. The grounds and old Abbey are stunning even at this time of year. Thanks again and keep up the good work

Will certainly stay again. Lovely Abbey grounds. Very comfortable bed. Breakfast choice good . Ambiance good. A short walk to Whalley village. Not too far from Whalley train station and is in walking distance. Whalley Country House was built on the site of a former Cistercian abbey in Whalley, Lancashire, After the dissolution of the monasteries, the abbey was largely demolished and a country house was built on the site. In the 20th century the house was modified and it is now the Retreat and Conference House of the Diocese of Blackburn of the Church of England. The ruins of the abbey are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building,[1] and are a Scheduled Ancient Monument.[2][3] Great for couples and groups alike who like history and quietness.
