Lovely, recently renovated hotel with great spa and good breakfast and dinner. We, a family of 4 with teenage children, spent 5 days at the family run Hotel Wiesenegg in February where we opted for the half board option. The facilities were great with a good choice for breakfast and a varied set menu at dinner. The hotel’s restaurant also caters for diners not staying at the hotel in the evenings. There is a high staff ratio and diners are frequently encouraged to order more drinks and to opt for the daily wine recommendations for dinner. We are not big wine drinkers so opted for beers with dinner instead. Unfortunately we had a very unpleasant experience with the young female owner manager who, much to her staff’s embarrassment, issued instructions that, following the purchase of one soft drink each, our children were not to be served any tap water as a second drink. Carafes of tap water were liberally served on almost all other tables we could see so when we queried why we were made to buy still bottled water (for 7.50 Euros no less!!) for our kids, we were told that we were not allowed any tap water because my husband and I were only buying beer, not wine. Not only did this completely single us out and made us feel like we were only there to spend as much money as they could extract from us but it is a complete outrage given that we were already spending 1,000 Euros per night to stay at the hotel in the first place - as well as buying additional drinks, (including alcohol!!) in the evenings. The young lady has a lot to learn in terms of hospitality and has sadly lost our custom. We won’t be back.
