St Michael's Manor Hotel - St Albans

Celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary at St Michaels Manor. Fast forward 20 years to October 2024 to Celebrate our 50th Wedding anniversary at St Michaels. Well, nothing has changed in terms of the building. Quaint and almost colonial like interior, some may describe it as stuffy. We spoke to the venue in advance and booked an evening meal for six. We emphasised the occasion. Our daughter also spoke with reception in advance of the occasion, as did my wife's sister. We were certainly not hoping for something complementary, but we were surprised throughout the entire evening that no one from St Michaels acknowledged the occasion. We Had drinks in the lounge before and after and during our meal. We spent £500.00 which we more or less expected. The food was presented beautifully and delicious so well done Chef and waiting staff. Family members complained during the next few days receiving exactly the same message: "Sorry". Nothing more nothing less! So if you are looking for great customer care and attention this aint the place! Should we make it to our 60th wedding anniversary we will not be spending it with St Michaels manor. They are in thorough need of a personality transplant and update of Charisma and customer care!

Had a gorgeous afternoon tea at St Michael's Manor. The food was absolutely delicious and so filling! Nisha was a fabulous and attentive host who looked after us well. We will definitely be returning - happy to find this hidden gem in St Albans.

The hotel is lovely, the staff are really friendly, a special shout out to Rama and Greg who made my stay extra special, their smiles and willingness to help were exceptional, helping me decide which gin to have with which mixer. Keep doing what you’re doing guys!!

I had two different stays at St Michael's Manor Hotel while in the St Albans area on business and visiting family in October. I would not hesitate to stay there again as I found this historic property to be in amazing place - and the room I stayed in nicely appointed, comfortable and quiet. The ambience of this Hotel made my stay an experience – as opposed to just another hotel to check-in and out of. The Hotel Staff responsible for cleaning the rooms did an excellent job. The Hotel Staff in the check-in area were very welcoming and informative about the amenities of the hotel. The Dining Room and Bar Area wait staff were great too! I only wish my schedule allowed me to have more meals in my stay, but the breakfast and lunch I had were appetizing and filling – and the Bar a fun easy place to relax with a drink or cup of tea – which I managed to do both! I would not hesitate to stay at St Michael's Manor again during my next visit to St Albans, and if you are strolling by on Fishpool Street (which is an easy walk from the St Albans High Street and Market area), stop in for a drink at the Bar and check availability for Lunch or Dinner – you will be glad you did!

First impressions looked good when arriving at StMichaels manor in St Albans. Nice grounds and plenty of parking. Sadly downhill there on in. No sign of a person on reception , once seen to, we were shown to large conservatory and seated. Told the server we were booked in for afternoon tea. teas chosen came prompt and were very good. Fair wait for the eats on offer to arrive, presentation did not inspire one. Cake selection very mediocre. While waiting for said aftrenoon tea, all other dinners were having lunch and the strong smell of fish dishes etc was not what i had expected when booked. I was hoping for a lovely presented table in a atmospheric room, sadly not the case. Was a special treat for a very good friend and we both left feeling very underwhelmed. £8 service charge on top !

Where do I start, this was a treat for my birthday…arrived, no one on reception, waited and told where room for afternoon tea was. On being seated in a room that looked soviet era, no niceties, no flowers, we waited a while for a waitress to take order for tea, then another 30 minutes for afternoon tea and on arrival had to ask for egg sandwiches as 3 times stressed am vegetarian NOT vegan, waitress seemed perplexed. All afternoon tea people seated with lunch diners which didn’t make it feel special. Cream for scones was hard and not a very good selection of cakes. All in all a lacklustre experience. I suggest manager goes to view the competition to get ideas on how to make this memorable and teach staff difference between vegan and vegetarian!
