This was one of the best hotels I have ever had the pleasure to stay at. We had a reservation there for almost a full week because we were using San Ignacio as a base to see many of the local attractions. The hotel has a very good reputation, but it deserves more. We were lucky enough to stay in the jungle view suite, which was large and had a full deck overlooking the jungle. I highly recommend this suite for a long stay because it is so comfortable. The hotel itself is lovely and very clean and well-maintained. But what really makes it shine is the staff. If you are coming back from a hot and sweaty day, as you enter you are greeted with an ice cold damp cloth. One night I was at the desk when a van pulled up in the rain. As they entered there was someone greeting the new guests with dry towels because they had been told by the shuttle driver that the people arriving were wet and cold. Now that is service! Almost every day the hotel would recommend a restaurant for dinner and call ahead and make sure we had a reservation and a taxi. The concierge staff is amazing and so helpful. If there is no one at concierge desk, someone from the guest services desk will step in and help. I have never stayed at a hotel where the staff was so friendly and accommodating. And everyone greeted both me and my husband by name whenever they saw us, from the people we really interacted to, to the people we only saw once or twice. If I ever needed to call the front desk with a question or a service request, the response was quick and thorough. We were at the hotel during the recent tropical storm, Sara. In case you don’t know, many of the attractions and things to do in Belize are outdoor activities. They were all shut down in San Ignacio because of the massive amounts of rain. Since we spent a lot of time in our hotel room, the deck was an amazing place to sit to see outdoor wildlife, and birds, and just listen to the rain pouring down around us. I took a walk from our deck to the nearby pool, videotaping the massive amounts of water falling from the sky. I must’ve been out of shelter for about 90 seconds and I came back soaked. It was so nice having a place to be outdoors on our deck, but warm, dry and protected. Every morning, I would check in with the staff to see if there was anything available for us to do. One dry day they were able to offer us the suggestion to see a local Mayan ruin, Cahal Peche, which has a very interesting museum as well as the ruins themselves. I recommend a visit highly. After that, the taxi driver that the hotel had arranged for us took us up to the Chaa Creek butterfly exhibit, which also has an interesting museum. We then had lunch at Chaa Creek and ended our day with a visit to the botanical gardens, which was very interesting and very large – much too large for us to explore in any depth. Our taxi driver brought us back to the hotel. This entire day had been organized completely by the guest services on the fly.
