A very friendly atmosphere in the pub below the rooms. Welcomed by host and staff. Room was small, but adequate for laying a head for the night. Room and bathroom very clean. Quite a bit of noise out of window, but room was at back of building where all the work was done. Excellent distance from main beach and attractions. Breakfast was beautiful and service from the young girl on Sunday morning, was excellent (compliments to both chef and waitress.) Slightly disappointed that wifi wasn't in room and no explanation in wlcome pack as to how to access it. Shower in bathroom had no power behind it and was more of a dribble. Late night activities in the pub were evident but didn't spoil sleep as was not too noisy. Overall, perfect for somewhere to lay your head!

Location was great, close to beach and amenities. Bar staff were friendly. Breakfast staff were very inattentive, food was inedible - all meat items burnt and egg uncooked, hash brown was charred black - I would have been embarrassed to serve it.

Property is in a good area close to the town centre and the beach across from the tram down to the seafront.Room was clean and tidy with a comfortable double bed although you could hear passing traffic and the seagulls if your a light sleeper. Breakfast the next day was freshly cooked with a choice of cereal, fruit juice and fresh coffee. All in all a good place to stay at a reasonable price

* Nice place with good views. * Very clean * Only fly in the ointment was that I had a very early start (work) and so could not get breakfast which is only served from 8:30

We only visited the Bar, not accommodation, but having visited we will stay here in future if space is available. What a fantastic bar. I don’t normally watch Football, but was absorbed by the action when I visited this week. The music and videos later were great too, and we really enjoyed our visit. The place was clean, bright, and inviting - as were the toilets. Big selection of drinks, fairly priced and refreshing. All of the staff that I spoke to were polite and good humoured. My wifes comment; If we had a pub like that at Jnr, we would definitely go there.

Just spent three nights at the Dickens and would thoroughly recommend it. Location is great. Very easy to find, the main shopping street is at the end of the road (turn right at Greggs). Its opposite the cliff railway (well worth the fare as there are a LOT of stairs and its steep). We were a bit concerned about the noise, the rooms being over the pub. We didn't hear a thing - other than the seagulls - and thought we were the only ones there until we saw other people at breakfast. It was so quiet. Access is by a side door, which is locked at night and you are given a swipe card to gain entry. The room, on the 3rd floor, was adequately sized. There was tea/coffee making facilities, fluffy white towels, and a shower over the bath. It was spotlessly clean. The breakfast, which is served on the 1st floor is basic but very good. Full english, bacon or sausage butties, eggs on toast. No continental options given (who wants them any way !!). They don't do evening meals but there is plenty of choice around - Mediterraean next door, Brewers fayre one street back, and a chinese two streets back recommended. There is even a McDonalds in the same street and Greggs on the corner of the main shopping street. There is also a mini market in the road which had a FREE cash machine if needed. Dislikes - the lift. Very, very small (2 people), claustrophobic and slow. Had to use cis we were on 3rd floor. Would stay again and recommend but maybe more in peak summer as we found a lot of the seaside type places were closed for season. We went by train and recommend that form of transport

An excellent stay. The staff were friendly throughout and the hotel was great value for money, with a very good breakfast. The location is excellent with easy access to Scarborough town centre and the South Bay

This is a lively little pub, customers all laughing, groups spending time together, music bit old, but thats personal taste. Bar staff served after 11pm then were rude in hurrying people along to drink up, if you offer a late drink it was 11.30 pm they served us and others in bar, let people drink up without rushing, we werent rowdy, rude or swearing just having great catch up, shame the 2 female barstaff were rude and didnt smile
