Grand Mercure Shanghai Century Park Reviews

I decided to treat myself on a nice stay, which turned out to be quite the opposite. Outdated, poorly maintained, disappointing breakfast and just not clean. A few examples: the mattress was dented on one side, a sort oil stain on the floor and badly maintained details on the walls, door posts etc. Besides that just a bit dirty, a splat of something on the bed headboard, a ***** hair in the bathroom and a bit light smoke smell. This hotel should not be able to call itself a 5 star hotel, there any MANY much better 4 star ones too find in Shanghai. I made a comment to the staff, but they simply stared at me like “yea ok, so?” followed up with a lame sorry. What a terrible experience! What a waste of money! Just gross

Great little hotel close to one of the Thumb Plazas. The thumb plaza is a little run down, but that has no affect on the hotel and there are still Chinese and Western food options nearby. Little swimming pool (looked nice but didn't bring trunks). Comfortable bed. The air-conditioning didn't go as low as I like, but that is typical for many hotels in Shanghai. Definitely a hotel I would stay at again.

I chose this hotel because I am familiar with the area, have stayed in it before and it is cheaper than staying downtown, while close to subway line 9. The room was, as before, very spacious, quiet and comfortable (except the sofa). I like the provision of a multi socket adaptor on the desk. The quantity of teabags provided (2 per day) is far too small! The wifi is so-so and not always accessible, especially not in the restaurant. Breakfast is also so-so. Fried eggs were cold and overcooked. The bread (unsliced loaf) was stale. The elevator card reader did not always work well. The lobby looks tired and uninviting, indeed the hotel needs a face lift. Check in and check out service is OK. The doorman seemed bored! The mall in which the hotel is located (Thumb Plaza - I have known it for a decade) is dying, so it may be difficult for this hotel to survive despite its relative proximity to the exhibition center

Hotel cleanliness is ok. Walking distance to century park. The chair could better if changed to ergonomics office type with wheels.

I have had the chance to stay here numerous times over the past few months. Great location as it is within walking distance (if you know exactly where to go) of many restaurants and shops. Only problem I have really found in my stays is that some of the service staff are quite surly to foreigners. Even without any verbal interaction, I have observed interactions between foreigners and some staff that would be deemed rather rude and unacceptable. Not sure what the issue is, but it seems to be a select few workers that have a real problem with their interactions. Quite concerning.

As a foreigner, the breakfast is alright, not too many choices. Bed is comfortable, room is clean. Ideal for business strip but it has no swimming pool more (it had before).

Good time at Grand Mercure, nice outside pool (even if it was crowded with swimming lesson kid in the morning and after 3pm, not the best) nice staff, clean room, some bars, good food around, will be coming back !

Very spacious clean suite. Comfortable bed & well stocked fridge. Outdoor swimming pool area was lovely. Staff very friendly. Convenient location for shops & century park.

The hotel location was great for us. However we booked during the hot season knowing they had a pool, however for five days we were unable to swim. There was no mention of this and no apology. Was very disappointing for a family to not be able to use the pool for duration of stay.

Had an excellent experience staying in this hotel on a special day on mine, my birthday. The hotel provided me with a birthday cake and a small gift. The staff was super nice and polite. Room was clean and warm. Highly recommend, for my next trip to Shanghai I will definitely choose this hotel. 👌🏼

Very friendly staff, room was big and clean. We've got a free upgrade to a suite. .
