Visalam provides a wonderful stay, excellent food, and activities that provide insight into the community’s history and culture. The early morning bike ride with Shiva should not be missed. It was a unique experience and well worth getting up early.

We three couples stayed for 3 nights at this property. While the property is good, the operating system, especially for meals is very odd. There is no a-la-carte menu???, which is very unusual for a property like this. The guests are asked to confirm lunch or dinner as per the menu they share, right after the breakfast. If we don't choose a meal, and we happen to be in the property, we will not be served and there are no restaurants close by. In the event of saying yes, but not able to come back to hotel in time, or if we do not feel like having the said meal due to even health reasons, there is no option to cancel but end up paying without eating. I am an ardent traveler and have never experienced any such thing before.

The property from the outside felt more like a hotel. But, once you enter it feels like you are staying in someone's home. The staff was very attentive. Food choice was minimal and was a bit underwhelming. They had a cooking demo planned for 4 PM, and they insisted we be on time during the check-in process. We cut short our outside trip and returned on time, only to be told that they are waiting for other guests and will not start until all the guests arrive. So much for being punctual and being told to be on time for the demo. I don't myself staying at this place again. It is OK to experience it once.

This is a beautiful heritage hotel, similar to a Riad in style. Well maintained with great features. We had an enormous room with wonderful teak furniture and large bed. Our shower room was also well appointed. Sadly we only had one night here but had time to enjoy a guided walk around the village with a staff member plus a cooking demonstration. The food was excellent for breakfast and evening meal all served by friendly staff. The hotel also has a lovely shop selling local products. Well Cgh Earth another great hotel.

The hotel is a Chettinad style house property. Staff is very very courteous and helpful. We were especially happy with Siva, the in-house guide, who took us around for a tour of chettinad houses, athangudi tile making and snacks and sweet making. The experience was simply amazing. Siva knows what he is talking about, very enthusiastic person and willing to share his abundance of knowledge. We discovered he is also an amazing photographer as well and a painter. He made us trip very fulfilling and worthwhile. Thanks Siva

What a fantastic hotel! Beautiful building throughout. Lovely cool big rooms. Great swimming pool and grounds. The staff are so warm, friendly and very helpful. The food is superb. I took two early morning cycle rides with Shiva around the local villages and these were superb too - Shiva was a local expert and showed us some very interesting places. A relaxing stay in first rate heritage hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at Visalam. It is a beautiful and charming hotel. The food was excellent and the staff very attentive. We had a wonderful tour guide named Kavita Ganesha who is affiliated with Visalam. She lives in the area and is super knowledgeable about the area, customs, local temples, and culture. She is very good with people and makes you feel at ease. I would highly recommend staying at Visalam and please ask for Kavita for a tour of the area.
