For me it’s like finding the Secret Garden of Windsor (or Maidenhead to be precise) when I came to the Monkey Island Estate by chance after failing in looking for a satisfying place to host my VIPs outside London. But we did not stay at any of the hotel rooms, it’s the detached “holiday homes” I stayed with a large group of guests. Overall, it’s like staying in a luxury air-bnb with all essential 5-star hotel services. The building (named Long White Cloud) has four bedrooms in good size, all newly refurbished in fabulous taste of country-style elegance. The double living room is huge, not just in comparison with most premises in Central London. A modern well stocked open kitchen. All interior very well lit by a large numbers of windows open to the greens. More surprisingly there is a huge back yard, right on the bank of a small branch of the River Thames. All staff I interacted with is of a high standard of hospitality. From the day I walked in and inquired about the place, being brought to view the premises, until we checked in and presented many specific requests from our guests. They are very customer oriented and the attitude is friendly and casual. Jose the reception manager helped me attentively throughout and Mark the head of housekeeping answered many of my requests without failing any. They even delayed the scheduled construction work of the premises upon our request of extension of stay. The hotel is small and some “usual” Hilton-style amenities may not be available. But the basic stay-and-dine quality is of superb standards, given the setting over the River Thames, not to mention the Michelin starred Monkey Bar, and the well maintained private garden on the petite island, with good wild-lives like swans and geese, etc. except monkeys.
