We stayed for four nights at Kongkham Guesthouse in Luang Prabang, and overall, it offered excellent value for money.
Pros: The rooms are equipped with all the basic amenities, including air conditioning, a hot shower with a bidet spray, a kettle, a mini-fridge, as well as a standing fan and AC. Although the building is older, the room was clean and well-ventilated. The bed, while firm, was comfortable, and it came with a balcony overlooking the Mekong River, offering beautiful views. The guesthouse also provides a washing machine and simple cooking facilities. The host was a major highlight – warm, easygoing, and resourceful. He was able to help arrange local tours and even coordinated group bookings to split costs. He also proactively lent us an electric bike for short trips around town, a thoughtful gesture that left a strong impression.
Cons: Being an older building, the bathroom looked a bit dated. While generally clean, more attention to detail in both the rooms and common areas would enhance the overall feel.
Overall: This is an affordable accommodation with beautiful river views and a genuinely warm and helpful host. It's ideal for travelers who prioritize practicality, location, and a personal touch over a luxurious experience.

Experience French romance with a Chinese touch in Luang Prabang! Free coffee, a communal kitchen, and electric scooters are all on offer, no wonder it's fully booked every day! A week of slow living here truly showed me the genuine, simple, and friendly nature of the Lao people.

A wonderful hostel with incredibly friendly and warm-hearted staff. We especially loved the breathtaking views from the terrace during breakfast, as well as the beautiful scenery from our room with its comfortable queen-size bed.
We truly enjoyed our stay and only wish we had discovered this little gem earlier.
Digital nomads may occasionally reach their limits here, as the internet connection is very slow and even the Unitel mobile network offers no improvement. However, this is not the hostel's fault. They are already using the best available provider, and internet coverage in and around Luang Prabang is simply not particularly well developed yet.
The soft polyester bed linen and towels may not suit everyone's taste. We personally prefer cotton for towels and bed sheets, especially in tropical climates where it tends to feel more comfortable. Polyester may work well in colder climates because it retains warmth, but in warmer regions some guests may find it less pleasant, especially after a shower. That said, this is purely a matter of personal preference and not something we consider a negative point against the hostel.
The breakfast is perfectly sufficient, and complimentary hot and cold drinking water is available throughout the stay. What stood out most to us, however, was the exceptional hospitality of the staff. Whatever you may need or whatever assistance you are looking for, the team is always genuinely eager to help in the best way possible. You are constantly greeted with a smile, which made our stay even more enjoyable.
Thank you!

Nanieee68The room was spacious and traditionally designed with bamboo, along with Mekong River view. The place is surrounded by plants, which makes it peaceful and beautiful. Just be prepared for mosquitoes and insects.
We stayed 2 nights and received a complimentary sunset cruise. The hotel also offers many useful services, we booked a scooter for 180,000 kip/day and a shared van to the railway station for 80,000 kip/person.
One small tip: at night, a rat came to rummage through our dustbin 😂, so it’s better to put food waste or rubbish outside if you don’t want to attract them.
The receptionist doesn’t hard selling their services, unless you ask. Overall, we really enjoyed the stay and loved the traditional atmosphere and river view!

Guest UserFacilities: It's a small standalone unit, with most of the essential facilities you'd expect.
Cleanliness: The blankets were very clean, but I guess the owner doesn't have much time to clean the public areas frequently.
Environment: Convenient surroundings, AB Mart supermarket is very close. Labuan is so small you can walk to anywhere you want to go within half an hour.
Service: The owner is Chinese, so communication was great. I had a pleasant stay.
The weather in Labuan was neither too cold nor too hot.
Staying in the tent was fine, apart from it being a bit noisy.

I booked a twin room and it didn’t disappoint, the bed was just the right level neither too hard nor too soft. They provide daily cleaning and fresh change of towels. The breakdast is plated and needs to be ordered the evening before. They have a good selection of baguette and choice of how you want your eggs, other Asian breakfast choices are also available like congee or rice noodles.
Do note that this property is on the other side of the Xanamkhan river from the heritage area, so it is a bit far from where the main attractions are. But, the guesthouse provides bicycles for rent. This location does offer some advantage, it is in a “locals” area so guests have access to a local market as well as restaurants that serve truly Lao cuisines and at very affordable prices.
The property owner is friendly and quite attentive to us guests, he always asks us if we have everything we need and if there is anything they can provide.
Considering all, if and when I’ll go back to Luang Prabang in the future, I will definitely consider staying here again.

We can’t complain about the hotel itself. For a one-star place, you actually get more than expected. Everything was clean, tidy, and functional. The breakfast is absolutely sufficient and offers several options (tea, coffee, milkshake, different types of boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, omelets, pancakes, or rice with various additions)
The towels are changed daily (sometimes unnecessarily, depending on your expectations), and the room is cleaned every day if you want.
The only downside is that in two different rooms we still found hand soap and hair on the shower shelf from previous guests. However, this didn’t bother us too much, as we’ve experienced far worse. The water pressure is also a bit weak, but at that point it’s really just nitpicking - we didn’t factor that into our rating. What matters most is having clean and available (including warm) water for showering and freshening up.
For those sensitive to noise: there is currently a construction site across the street that starts around 7:00 - 7:30 am and continues until about 7:00 pm. If that might be too much for you, you may want to consider staying somewhere else temporarily.
Otherwise, the owner is friendly, attentive, and genuinely cares about the well-being of the guests. It was a pleasure staying here, and thank you for the compensation regarding the room allocation - we, and especially our cat, truly appreciated it.

It was good, originally our room windows were open with lights on so lots of mosquitos inside, WiFi didn’t reach our room. That being said, they moved us to a room at the front & everything was great. The staff didn’t speak English so there was a language barrier, but we both did our best to talk to eachother 😂 all in all I would stay here again but only at a front located room!

Guest UserReally great hotel for the price, we ended up extending our stay twice.
The room was big, with hair dryer, mini fridge, outside seating, towels and shampoo/shower gel.
WiFi was strong, water got super hot really quickly.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, not much English but we used translate app where needed.
Location is about 20/30min walk from the main centre, but there are a lot of restaurants and coffee/tea places along the way.
The room itself was clean and tidy, there were some bed sheets in the closet in a pile that was quite random but as the ones on the bed were clean we weren’t bothered.
