My colleague said the problem with this hotel is that there is a veneer of civility that doesn't match the reality and I think that is true. If the hotel didn't bill itself as a modern, clean, nicer hotel in this city, I think we would have been more prepared for what we found. What this hotel has is dingy sheets and towels (and a black-streaked bath mat!), dirt in every corner, holes in the ceiling, abundant mosquitoes in the rooms, and poor lighting. I was there for work and 3 of the 4 of us had TVs that didn't work. Also, we dined frequently at the Magnolia Restaurant (the lobby coffee shop is totally non-func The lobby has issues with mold, particularly when it rainstional) and the food was fine... until day 3 when another colleague had an enormous bug cooked into her food. The staff reaction was to look embarassed, but not apologize or say a word. So, maybe it's a normal thing at this hotel? That put us all off and we didn't eat any prepared foods from the kitchen after that for the rest of the trip. The staff is nice, but seems to be unaware of what proper cleaning standards are. Definitely not a gret stay in Sylhet unless it is all you can afford.
