This hotel provided great service and clean accommodations. I love that hotels in Japan provide pajamas and toothbrushes. This hotel had two public baths. It's nice that they have one bath where the water is not as hot. We had the dinner buffet. It included American and chinese offerings. You receive a ticket for one serving of the Hida beef. I thought the food was good. I like that the portions are small, so you can try a lot of things. We also had the breakfast buffet which included Takayama specialty items too. There is a large souvenir shop in the hotel, so you are able to pick up gifts. I thought the prices are comparable to other gift shops. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the train station. It is a 7 minute walk to the train station, so it's not so bad. They only have two shuttles that go to Takayama Jinya (government house) which is across the bridge from Sanmachi Suji. Otherwise it's at least a 20-25 minute walk. I wish they had more shuttles to that area. There is not much to look at on the way from the hotel to Sanmachi. As Takayama becomes more popular with tourists, most of the hotel staff and store owners are able to communicate in English. Overall, I enjoyed my time at the hotel and would stay there again.

We stayed at Hotel Associa Takayama Resort as part of our tour group. We had a spacious twin room on the 15th floor of the Alps Wing which was the largest room of our tour. The room was very comfortable as were the beds. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The resort is on the outskirts of Takayama but there is a shuttle bus into the centre of the city. There are limited restaurants in the hotel and 2 of them were booked out by the time we arrived. We managed to book into the Japanese restaurant and had a delicious meal there. The breakfast buffet didn't have cereal. There was a laundromat on the ground floor which consisted of a number of combined washing machine/dryers which dispensed their own detergent.

We were lucky to stay at Mercure Takayami on their opening night. Everything about the hotel was above our expectations. Rooms were a very comfortable with attention to detail. Having USB and USB C charging ports for our electronics next to the bed was very convenient and meant we didn't need to search for our Japan power adaptors. This hotel has been well designed with a focus on local traditional carpentry and joinery skills. When you book this hotel make sure you book a room that includes access to the private Onsen. We had an open-air experience while we watched the snow from our private onsen. Breakfast had an extensive range of Tradition Hida dishes and Western choices, with different options available each day. This was a great way to try Hida Beef Curry and Hida chicken cooked on a traditional grill. Staff were very helpful going above and beyond with their dedicated and personal service, even searching the internet for me to find a store that sold Yama Cola. We will be back to stay again and will try to stay longer next time.

Fantastic experience! We had a traditional room and slept on tatamis. Dinner and breakfast were delicious , all based upon local ingredients. The staff is super kind and caring. And this was the opportunity to experience an onsen (collective bath, water coming from natural warm springs). Something to try absolutely when visiting Japan

I stayed overnight for the first time with my cousin and wife. The best time to see it was over, but the autumn leaves on the road to the entrance were wonderful. The building retains the remnants of its founding. It was a historic appearance where successive emperors' families stayed. I stayed in a comfortable Japanese-style room with 10 and 5 tatami mats. The large communal bath is an alkaline simple hot spring. In particular, the open-air bath with natural rocks is the best. The skin became smooth and smooth, and it felt very good. It is better to change the men's and women's baths the next morning. Supper is in the room. There are many types of menu in kaiseki cuisine, and we enjoyed the seafood and mountain food luxuriously. Breakfast is a Japanese set menu in the hall. Breakfast with dinner was also satisfactory and very delicious. It was a memory of a pleasant trip.

It was a stay using the prefectural people. Because I had declared on the phone in advance, the check-in procedure and the application of the prefectural people were very smooth. The guide in the building was a foreign national staff, and there was a wall of words, but it was easy to understand all the necessary matters. In addition, the information you received at check-in was also described in the information you were able to go to each large bath and were able to use all three large baths without hesitation. I was very worried about which dinner to make, but Ogawaya was the first time to use it, so I made it a standard meeting seat, but it was correct. You can eat at the private room banquet hall, and the amount and taste are satisfactory. The dinner attendant was also a foreign national, but it was very polite and very good as the guide. The breakfast buffet was also used after 7:00, so it was not particularly crowded, and the seat was also very relaxing. It was a type with an open-air bath on the balcony, so the stay in the room is also very relaxing and recommended. It was a stay without any inconvenience at all. I like the accompanying people very much and I would like to visit again when I go to Gero.

I'm struggle to put my review in words cause I am amazed by the services offered by the hotel and the staffs. First of all, upon reaching Gero station from Nagoya station using Hida Line, we are thrilled by the surrounding atmosphere and we took our time snapping photos around not knowing that the hotel offers a free shuttle bus for all their customers. The driver waited patiently at the exit gate, holding the hotel sign board waiting for all customers to leave the Gero station. This is a real PLUS in our stays. After we checked in, the staff lead us to our rooms and explained to us on the facilities of the hotel and the staff helped to exchange the size of Yukata after studying our heights. Very observant and thoughtful. There are 3 different hot springs in the hotel and if you have time, you can visit all of them. You can always put on your Yukata and walk inside the hotel region, including the stunning Japanese garden. Just that, most of the services/shops in the hotel are closed on 9pm JST. Remember to plan properly. The room is very spacious with 2 comfortable beds, a small tatami region for you to enjoy your private Japanese tea time. We love the breakfast provided by the hotel as it offered variety of both Japanese and Western breakfast. There is a shuttle bus service (usually once per hour for instance 10am, 11am and 12 noon) to fetch the customers back to Gero station. The staff waved us good bye is another amazing experience provided by Japanese. It is just amazing feeling. Tips: 1. You can purchase the 5Days JR pass and enjoy unlimited ride on some JR trains if you plan to visit Nagoya region and a day trip to Tateyama Alpine Kurobe route. 2. There are not many tourists during our visiting time (24 April 2023) and we love the peaceful feeling of it. Just that, it also comes with not many restaurants are available during the day.

GGuest UserExtremely well located if you want to be right next to the train station and bus station - my room overlooked the tracks. Provision of washing machine and dryer is a superb bonus inroom as are the full cooking facilities. The hotel intelligently provides basics such as oil, salt, coffee, tea and even a couple of detergent sachets for the washing. Strangelt though, no knives or other cutting implements of any kind. A tip if you intent to cook. The Family Mart opposite is basic, but there is a huge supermarket under the tracks and just beyond MacDonalds where you can get international food as well as Japanese. Slightly dreary corridors and a reception crowded with people waiting for their room to become available. But on the plus side they let me into my room early as I was unwell at the time.
SShu KaiseiOne of my favorite stays! Check-in was easy although required to fill some digital form on the hotel tablet. The room was very spacious. Well maintained and clean. Gorgeous view of the town from the window. There are free male/female public baths in this hotel which swaps in between timings! Love the public bath it was a good experience. I also am appreciative of the free coffee and tea machine, and the Hoshizaki water dispenser at the lobby area. Location is extremely convenient, less than 5 minutes walk from Takayama Station and the Bus Centre as well. Only thing is the walk to the hotel from the station is not sheltered so might be troublesome if raining. Convenience stores and plenty local food shops around the hotel area too. Would definitely come back again if ever visiting Takayama.
JJohnWe tried to book this lesser known hotel in the area and guess what, we were glad we did got the opportunity to stay in this lovely hotel. The staff was kind and sincere even though they tried their best to speak converse with us in english. The room we stayed in was those like ryokan kind with a toilet in it. Shower area are shared among other guests which is linked to a shared indoor and outdoor onsen areas as well. They have a private onsen as well which you do not need to book, just need to lock the door outside to inform people that you're using it.
The best part of this experience is that we opted for dinner and breakfast and we were just blown away especially the dinner course menu. They provided like 10 different type of dishes for you to taste which includes the iconic hida beef as well!
Everything for one night is so affordable around SGD $200+ which is definitely worth it!
GGuest UserThe hotel is 15 minutes walk from the railway station bus stop, and the scenery along the way is beautiful. The hotel is run by several elderly people. It is already a 65-year-old hotel. Starting from the boss's grandfather, the house has a history of 125 years and is very Japanese. The ornaments in the house can be shot for an hour. There is a special doll, and I am fortunate to see the dolls of the boys' day. The old people are very enthusiastic, the breakfast is delicious, it is served by a Japanese grandmother. It is really like a grandmother in anime. It is very similar to talking and walking. The breakfast is very harmonious. I still remember the fish.
LLeon FokThe apartment is conveniently located near the train station, which provides easy access to public transportation. While the surrounding neighborhood is pleasantly quiet, it is still very convenient, with restaurants and other amenities within walking distance. The spacious balcony offers lovely views and is a wonderful feature, allowing you to enjoy the fresh air and scenery. Overall, this is an excellent value and I would highly recommend it based on the location, amenities, and beautiful balcony view.
GGuest UserFree parking is large and there is a second parking lot. There is also a convenience store opposite, which is convenient. In the lobby, you can enjoy the atmosphere of Hida Takayama, such as the retro colors of Hida Takayama and the decoration of Hanamochi. The room is double and you can't feel the size alone. You can spend your time comfortably with equipment such as independent air conditioner and large TV. You should take a bath in the large communal bath and open-air bath. It is a weak alkaline (pH8.2) hot spring, and the skin is smooth. The open-air bath with natural stones is comfortable with the murmuring of the river and is lit up at night. I was impressed that the flowers of the hot water were in bloom. Breakfast is buffet style. The menu is normal, but there are many vegetable dishes from Hida Takayama. Surprisingly, I'm happy to have delicious morning curry. I was satisfied with the hotel with three beats of rooms, hot springs and meals.
GGuest User8 Month 27 2 nights from day. When I arrived at the hotel, it rained and parked in front of the entrance. 1 time until check-in in the lobby. Immediately from the east building where the front lounge is located, the south building. There is a footbath at the end of the aisle and towels are also placed. Take the elevator to the 6 floor. Be careful as the elevator door closes early. The view from the room is mountains. The twin is large enough. The toilet and washroom in the unit bath are good. It's a pity that there is only one room key 1. The large communal bath is on the 1 floor of the East Building. There is no replacement for men and women. There are about 10 showers in the indoor bath. There is also an open-air bath. Charcoal is burned in the fireplace in front of the entrance of the indoor bath. There are also billiards. There is a heated pool with a depth of 90 cm outside. Although it is not big, there are few hotels in Okuhida with a pool. The meal is Fuyo, a suzuya on the 2nd floor of the East Building, and Japanese food is served with evening breakfast. It is good that there is no tempura in the kaiseki. Alcohol is cheap. There are two smoking areas, the terrace in front of the lobby of the East Building and the wooden deck outside the rest area with the fireplace in the South Building. The next day, around 13:00, I got on a slope car and went to the famous mixed bath open-air bath ”Yari no Yu”. The largest area in Okuhida, certainly wide. If the weather is nice, you can see Mt. Yarigatake. The man is half-pants style. Women wear shoulder-style bathing clothes. There is a dehydrator in the changing room for women, but not for boys.
GGuest UserAs the inn's brochure says, ”It feels like it happened a long time ago.” This is an inn where time passes by. The name “Hina no Yu” is “Hina No Hina”. The room was large, about 12 tatami mats, and had a bed, table and chair set. There was also a wide veranda and a porch surrounding the room. The restroom also has a standing restroom for men, and I mentioned that it's rare for an inn to have a men's restroom. When I asked later, I was told that this room was only for boys. Even though I turned off the air conditioner, there was a nice breeze coming in from outside, and I could hear the chirping crows, and we both took a nap after taking a bath. The hot spring had a slight smell of sulfur. The indoor bath was hot and the outdoor bath was lukewarm, which was very comfortable during this hot season. It is a good hot spring with flowing water directly from the source. There are no lotions in the bathroom, so it is better to bring the amenity set provided in your room. There is a rest area near the bath. As I was drinking cold tea, a cool breeze came in from outside through the screen door, and I felt nostalgic for summers before, thinking, ``It's so cool in the evening.'' It's too hot everywhere now. Takahara-juku in the summer is nice and cool. In the rest area, videos of Hotaka and Mt. Yarigatake were shown on the TV, and I watched them while relaxing and drinking something cold. Dinner was served in a private room in a different room. The hinamori was a colorful appetizer with lots of different kinds of seasonal summer vegetables. The sashimi was rock fish and local salmon, the grilled fish was grilled sweetfish, and the ceramic grilled bite-sized steak was Hida beef. The rice was unique and could be eaten as is. A glass of local sake was 660 yen and went well with the food. Breakfast was also served in a private room. The overnight-dried puffer fish and tofu were delicious, and I ended up having a second helping of rice with grilled magnolia miso. After the meal, we had coffee in the lounge in the front area. The coffee cup was in a cup warmer, which was a nice touch since I like hot coffee. Especially in the winter, when you're servicing coffee, the cup gets cold and the coffee ends up lukewarm. In the lounge, there was relaxing classical music playing. It's a shame because it's only cash-only when paying, or because I'm a cashless person. I felt that the quiet landlady and the host had a firm concept for the inn. I entered the hot springs at 2pm and left at 11am, and it was a really relaxing stay.
