Grupotel Orquidea

Stayed here during half term with family (14 in total) and I was slightly worried when reading some reviews but I can honestly say I have no faults. Plenty of activities throughout the day for adults and children of all ages. Our young children went to kids club every day and loved it - good processing for security also taken into consideration. We only ate at the buffet restaurant so can’t comment on the other restaurants in hotel. But the buffet was great and plenty of options. We were there for Halloween and the hotel made such an effort. Decorations, Halloween cocktails, Halloween themed foods. The entertainment team also did their own show and it was honestly brilliant. Entertainment is standard hotel style but it was fine for us to keep the kids happy. Not much around hotel to go for a walk but we caught a taxi to Maspalomas which is stunning. Rooms were basic but clean with no concerns.

Just got back from a weeks stay at Orquidea and miss it terribly already! We were lucky that our daughter had a 2 week half term as the final weekend going into full UK half term was certainly far busier than it had been for the rest of our stay. So if you can go outside of peak times it would be better. Kiddo absolutely loved the kids club and went to every morning session. Tui staff were amazing and super friendly. Plenty of activities taking place throughout the day. Myself and my partner were able to try paddleboard yoga (only falling in twice!) with Audrey who was fantastic at motivating and keeping to a pace that all the participants could keep up with. I did aqua aerobics each day to combat the all inclusive indulgence! And there was even VR snorkelling! The 3 pools mean plenty of room for ball games and swimming alike. The kids pool has slides and the splash park has a few water jets that can help to cool off. Rooms were very comfortable and spacious, air con helped to keep it cool overnight. The fridge came with a bottle of water for tea making but there is no milk in the rooms. Safe in the room to keep your valuables and a TV which has multi national channels. We were lucky to discover that the Disney Channel was english shows and films with Spanish adverts, so the child was placated when we were having some downtime before dinner. Food in the buffet restaurant was superb and kept topped up constantly. The waiting staff were quick to clear empty plates and the entire holiday it was kept super clean. We had a snacky lunch at the pool bar each day which always had a ton of offerings. The beer and wine on tap included was tasty and each night there was bottles of prosecco available to help yourself. Ice slush drinks went down well with the kids. All inclusive also get a free meal at the Taverna restaurant for every 7 days you're there, you have to take up this offer! Incredibly friendly staff, great views and food that just melted in the mouth. You just have to pay for any alcoholic drinks but that is with a discount as well. The Gran Canarian white wine was a great pairing for the fish and stew. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The in-hotel shop is a little pricey but very convenient and there is also a supermarket (for milk and extra water for the kettle!) and small souvenir shops just over the road for anything else you may need. I will happily stay here again in the (hopefully) not too distant future!

This was our worst holiday. Plane was delayed so arrived at hotel after the bars had closed. First hotel in many holidays that I have arrived in where there were no welcome drinks, bearing in mind the plane was late we were hungry and thirsty. Tea tray in room is poor, no milk on the tray so ok if you like everything black. Advice take milk sachets with you. There is one bottle of water for the whole stay. Your expected to refill the bottle from the dispenser. Impossible without flooding the floor. The dispensers are for cups not refilling water bottles. The first hotel I’ve stayed where water isn’t replenished and I’ve been to a lot of hotels. First night after eating in restaurant my husband was very ill with D&V and was bedbound for the next day. The next day after I ate in restaurant I was violently ill with same D&V. We had to go to pharmacy to get medication on two occasions to help with symptoms. We lost 3 days of our holiday through illness. When reported to Tui rep, he was not that interested and said he would email medical form, and get a deep clean and would try and get another bottle of water for the room..it never materialised. All the form was, advising we had gastroenteritis. A very infectious condition. The bedroom was not deep cleaned as the bedding was not changed! So bearing in mind there is a potential infectious condition in a big hotel there are no precaution s. No hand gel in any communal areas. This hotel is shared by 3 other sister complexes. Food is poor very little selection, and after having either food poisoning or gastroenteritis we were very cautious about what we ate. We wouldn’t drink from plastic cups as not cleaned properly. Is this all inclusive…no, not if you have to buy milk, and water. And go to the outside restaurant for a change of food. A very disappointing holiday, to the point we have escalated our complaint with the holiday provider.

Hotel rooms are ok, love the split level its gives the feeling of being separate rooms but the air conditioning, although cool, doesn't hit the beds & can cause a difficult nights sleep. The restaurants are okay if a little repetitive, I was fine but some members of my family were hoping for a bit more variety. They had an Italian night & an Asian night in the main dining room. I had a prawn cracker that almost choked me! It had a piece of what appeared to be plastic around 2.5cm round embedded inside it. My wife found a chef to complain to but he seemed to just shrug his shoulders & point her to reception. They were of little help too. A TUI rep was nearby & said that she'd sort it out. Sadly that came to nothing too. The morale of the incident is just your food in the main restaurant, just in case you have a child who likes prawn crackers! Le Tavern restaurant should only be eaten at if you're starving. The Sultan restaurant is well worth a visit with goid service & excellent food. There are always plenty of sunbeds around the pool, even if the water is a bit cool for my liking! The entertainment staff are highly talented & energetic. The evening shows are quite good. On the whole its a nice hotel but we felt let down by our treatment over the prawn cracker!
