Distinction Te Anau Hotel & Villas Reviews

The hotel was built in 1966. Although the facilities are a bit old, it has everything. We stayed in a villa with two bedrooms and a living room, which is suitable for family travel. The breakfast is also good, typical Western style. Next time I come to Te Anau, I will stay here again.

Please pay attention, this is a money trap! ! More than two thousand, living in a house from the 1980s and a "high-end villa hotel" that gave you the wrong door key late at night, can you believe it? ? ? The actual situation is this: Because I didn’t want to go to Milford Sound early the next day, I arrived at Te Anau early in the evening and saw this “villa” hotel online. The pictures looked pretty good, but an accident happened 🙂 . When we checked in, it was already night, and we were given a key from the 1980s (I was wondering why it was the same type of key as the cabinet key at home. Can't swiping a card to open the door in the villa?), took the key I was shocked when I walked to the house. It was full of tour buses (mostly Chinese tour groups), and the door was broken. The poverty alleviation units in the village don't have locks like this anymore. I inserted it. When I opened it, I went crazy. There was a thread inside the door. I broke the chain and used it as a lock. I used my mobile phone light to look inside and found a big man wearing red pants lying in the bedroom. The big man woke up instantly (I was doubting life at the time: Do foreigners never close the bedroom door when they sleep?) and immediately ran back to the hotel. The front desk checked for a long time and said that they might have given the wrong key. In the end, they found out that they had given the wrong room and gave them a new key and a new room. When I entered, I found that I had been cheated (I guess the travel company and the hotel colluded to inflate the room price. It was more than 2,000, and I stayed in a guest house in the 1980s). The bedroom had no door, only a frame (this is why I began to think that foreigners cannot sleep well). Close the door), you can see the bed from the outside, all the facilities are very old, the curtains are from the 1970s, the pillows have a sense of history, the lights are flickering, I was woken up by the sound outside in the morning..., forget it , I won’t say anymore, everyone please protect yourself outside. This hotel is on Lakeshore with views of Lake Te Anau. We stayed in a villa (818) and parked right near our entrance. We had a small living room in addition to the bedroom and bathroom. There is no air conditioning but it cools down at night as we found out later. Great location, and lovely restaurant!

Very pleasant one day stay prior to taking the overnight Real NZ Patea ( Doubtful Sound ) cruise. Room as in the photo. Great view of the lake but pity about today's weather. Excellent evening meal in the MacKinnon restaurant particularly the venison loin which was cooked perfectly. Didn't realise the meal came with veges so ordered extra sides which we didn't really need. Very interesting chat with Roman the maitre d'.

We took advantage of the Distinctions Winter Deal package and spent a lovely two day break here. Rooms are super tidy and just as pictured. Food was LOVELY and service was wonderful. Granted, winter is the quiet time there, but all the staff treated you with recognition, a smile and were super friendly. Very blessed that it was such a warm and comfy place to 'home' to after a day out looking at amazing mountains and lakes. Thanks for making our winter stay so warming!

Loved our stay. The staff were fantastic and looked after us really well. The rooms were clean spacious and spacious. We ate at the hotel and the food was great. The hotel is an easy walk to town and it has a great view of the lake. Definitely worthwhile staying here

Also, a Distinction hotel on a big property right by the lake – excellent for taking strolls and quick and easy access to the town and shops. Wifi was impeccable. The dinner buffet had a great selection including fresh seafood. The breakfast buffet selection was very good, too.

We were fortunate to have a lakeside room. Just a shame the weather wasn't the best, as there was a nice balcony area outside our room. The room and bathroom were lovely and the bed was very comfy. Dinner was good and there was a good choice of food for breakfast.

We were very pleasantly surprised, having read both positive and negative reviews, to find the hotel villa we stayed in very comfortable and cosy, with new bathroom and lots of space to spread out. No issues with things needing repairs. The safe wouldn't lock but someone arrived at the door within 10 minutes of letting Management know. It proved difficult to sort out so we were able to store our passports in the reception safe overnight and while we were out the next day. It was fixed by the time we were back. The setting of this establishment is lovely, with lake and mountain views. It's also conveniently situated, opposite the wharves for glow-worm tours, lake trips, etc and a 2 minute walk to the start of the main street with all shops and restaurants. Breakfast, included in our tariff, was excellent. Although they cater for large tour groups there are plenty of tables, attractively set and plenty of food.

We stayed in a villa , which is in a lovely location. Rooms were good, beds comfortable. However the cooking facilities were a bit odd, microwave and toaster and kettle, limited cups and only small plates. No where to wash up or a tea towel to dry up. Just a cupboard in the corner. As there was only one bathroom, had to plan our kettle fill and showers.
