Holiday Inn Plano - the Colony

What a story!!!! Wasn’t the hotel I booked but wound up here!!!! Booked the holiday inn express next door but by the time our plane landed VERY LATE, waited an hour for rental car, etc., we did not arrive until after midnight to the Holiday Inn Express that I had checked in via their email process earlier that day. Graciously they sent us to their sister hotel next door, Holiday Inn that had room since the Express location was completely booked. After checking in, we crashed after a very long day. Woke up the next realizing I had paid more than my reservation as well as paid for only a one night stay and was to be in TX for two nights. Went down stairs and spoke to Sandra (an absolute doll, professional, caring, friendly, wonderful) and explained the entire story of which she graciously listened. I handed her my receipt of my room rates for the two nights from her sister hotel and she matched the price, in fact took a few dollars off for all the mix up. Sandra made a disaster into a bright sunshiny day. Now to the room. Clean, ready for anyone to come in and go right to sleep, plenty of towels, shampoo for two uses, conditioner, and lotion, make up wipes, 2 soft and 2 hard pillows, comfy beds, plenty of ‘dresser’ space to spread all our belongings, fridge, microwave, safe, and to top it off quiet!!! Great location off the highway, near food, etc. There was a small continental breakfast each morning too in the lobby. They have a mini grocery store as well in the lobby. Great hotel stay!!!! Thanks Sandra for all you did too!!!!

The hotel was nice and the room was well situated. The cleaner they use for the rooms is a bit overwhelming, so there is a strong odor when you enter them. While not indicative of the stay overall, the toilet did not work. I had cats with me, so I was hesitant to contact room service to fix it. I did notice the trash can had water sitting in it, so I'm thinking it didn't work for the previous person either, and we both used the trash can to act as a water bucket to help flush the toilet. There was something that was a little odd. Check out time is 11. It was 10:50 when I went down to check out. The housekeeping staff had decided to mop the entrance way and hall areas at that precise time. That was not very well thought through.

La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Dallas Plano - the Colony

We visited the LaQuinta in the colony for 4 nights. The hotel staff was friendly and the grounds appeared clean and inviting. Each morning we had had the free breakfast. They had a variety of continental favorites like muffins, yogurt, fruit and cereal. The hot foods included some type of breakfast meat either sausage patty, sausage links, or see through bacon. Hahaha, the eggs were the usual bulk egg product, but the best part was the fresh waffles in the shape of Texas! The room had a mini fridge and microwave. The mini soaps and shampoo was a Dove product which was really nice. The beds were comfortable and clean. I took my son swimming in the indoor pool. Towels were provided for drying off. Overall I found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. I recommend LaQuinta in Colony, TX and will most likely stay there again when I visit family.
Hampton Inn & Suites Dallas-The Colony

It's been a while since I've stayed at a Hampton Inn & Suites. This facility seems to be very new. Everything was very clean and the lobby area is definitely above average. Lots of room and seating and the design is something you'd see in a much higher end hotel. The location is great. Close to lots of shopping and restaurants. We walked to a nearby spot in just a few minutes. The staff was friendly, but on two different occasions we had to wait at the front desk for 5-10 minutes before an employee showed up to help us. First to check in, and then later the same evening to request pillows for the sofa sleeper (also odd that there were no pillows in the room to use the sofa sleeper). Maybe they were just understaffed on that evening, but I stay in hotels at least 25 nights a year and I don't remember having to wait for someone to show up at the front desk like that. If you like a very firm mattress, then you'll probably be fine. But for me the bed was very uncomfortable. The room was spacious, but kind of an odd design. I'm used to staying at Hyatt Place and other similar hotels where there's lots of seating in the room. Here there was a desk chair and a small loveseat only. The bathroom and shower were both good. The breakfast was about average, but nothing special. Waffles, fruit, bagels, muffins, cereal, etc. I did appreciate that it was open at 6:00am. Lots of hotels don't open their free breakfast until 7:00am or later and I'm usually already out the door by that time. Wife and kids both enjoyed the indoor pool. Nice to see indoor pools open again after so many have been closed due to COVID.
