Loved this place!! The host was so lovely and held conversation with us even with our broken Japanese haha, gave us maps / guides for the Dewa Sanzan and even asked us about our itinerary for the next day (as we were going to climb the other 2 mountains, he made sure we knew the bus timings). It was such a nice traditional ryokan, with comfy tatami, public ofuro (hot steaming bath that felt great after climbing Hagurosan), yukata, and even tea powder and biscuits set out in the room :") Our room had a wash basin and sofa chairs as well, but not sure if that's for all rooms. We paid 660yen each for breakfast taken away (2 big onigiri balls!) but couldn't have dinner added on (so make sure you check beforehand, because most places in the town close by 5pm). Overall 100% recommend staying here! Loved our stay, thank you :)

Great heritage home, traditional ryokan style hotel with the most wonderful family hosting. The owner took us to a local restaurant and ensured we had somewhere to eat for dinner. Rooms very comfortable, bathrooms immaculately clean. Good breakfast which they kindly adapted for our kids. Highly recommend.

To go to the Sakata Fireworks Festival for 2 days and 1 night We had 3 rooms for our family of 6. We were able to change the check-in time due to this situation, which was helpful. I didn't tell you that there was an elderly person, so it was a room with a steep flight of stairs, so from the next time, I learned that if I told you at the time of booking, I might be able to get some preferential treatment. Although it is a very old building, the exterior has been renovated and the inside has been kept clean. The hallways were clean even when walking barefoot. Brown water came out of the tap in the bathroom, so I didn't use it. You can hear the next guest's voice and snoring, so if you are worried about it, you should bring earplugs when you sleep. There is no toilet in the room. There was one bath for men and women, and the one for women had a slightly larger bathtub and three showers. Four people entered at the same time. I was able to use it until 12:00 at night. I was able to use it around 6 in the morning. The breakfast was very delicious, with a nutritionally balanced diet centered on vegetables that the body would enjoy. I mainly eat out when I travel, so I was really happy to have a meal like this. The rice is delicious! That day was Tsuyahime. It was a hectic stay, but the hosts were very kind and gentle. thank you for helping me.

Great place to stay to visit Dewa Senza. Very helpful and friendly staff. Quiet place to rest and relax after hiking the mountains. Rooms are very nice and large with a place to sit next to the window and watch fireflies. Baths are nice for soaking sore muscles.
