Visited for the evening with our book club. Had a great and interesting tour from Mandy about the local history and then a super sharing meal in the private dining room at The Terrace. Lovely taste food and great service. The food just kept coming! A very relaxing evening.

The grounds and nothing short for magical! The faculties are a haven and the feel of the original building perfectly retained. It’s a real treat to be at Swinton and the staff must work tirelessly to keep it so charming and authentic. Room maid was super, breakfast staff lovely too. The rooms are excellent value for money. My disappointment came from what I believe one member of staff back office filtering down an attitude which is less than acceptable at such an impressive hotel. I will not name her but believe that she supervises some of the more new and less experienced members of staff and has not adequately trained them to feel at ease with any challenges or conflict with clients. Interestingly this particular member of staff used a sarcastic tone to apologise for being “incompetent” when I pointed out that I had not called her that, she said that’s how I made her feel! From reading another recent trip advisor review I see that a totally different guest has in fact called her that so it’s a complex or projection which she may be carrying and I don’t appreciate this kind of back chat. I was informed by her that three members of staff had complained about me as a guest! This is something which creeped me out a bit as it’s most unprofessional for staff to be gossiping about a guest! As I am clear that this behaviour is typical of management style and lack of training I have decided to not hold it against the hotel as a whole. These staff should remember that they are guardians only of this place. Any meanness towards guests can impact future business and people before them have worked with passion to get the business to where it is now, never take clients for granted. I travel to hotels all of the time and would encourage that the hotel up their service and care during disputes rather than make personal assumptions about the guests and take things personally. I’d a guest raises issue it’s better to try to resolve the issue than turn business away. That being said more senior management seem to have cleared up any issues and I think that this would not stop me from recommending Swinton. It’s top class in the making and we are fortunate to be able to access such a gem. The spa is heavenly.

I first visited Swinton Estate over a year ago. I was just looking for a place to spend a couple of nights in the area, and what I found so exceeded my expectations that I ended up coming back 3 more times and hope I will again! The estate is absolutely beautiful. One of the things I look forward to is taking a daily walk in the park. They have a very extensive list of activities to keep you entertained during your stay. You will never be bored! Some of the things we did included a cookery course, skeet shooting, meeting the birds of prey, a deer park walk and a history tour. We always make it a point to visit the spa once or twice during our stay. Always a peaceful and relaxing experience. The food on the estate is wonderful! Chef's Table by Josh Barnes is a must! We also very much enjoy our dinners and lunches at the Terrace and Samuel's. I can't say enough good things about the team that works at Swinton! Everyone we met is welcoming, courteous, helpful and just a pleasure to talk to. Best part: it is not crowded. When you go for a walk, you feel like you have the plan to yourself. It totally lacks that "resorty" feel that I personally try to avoid. Instead you feel the history and tranquility of your surroundings.

On our arrival, we had an amazing 90 minute walk around the estate - taking in the deer park, the lakes, some beautiful woodland, the walled garden and the birds of prey. We arrived back at the hotel in time for our afternoon tea. It was certainly one of the best afternoon teas we have had and it was beautifully presented. The staff in and around the hotel were superb and so helpful. We both said it was one of the best afternoons we have spent in a long time - well done Swinton

We would recommend Swinton Estate for a myriad of reasons but perhaps the most important is location and the surrounding countryside

We stayed at the Swinton Bivouac but visited the estate for The Terrace, the Country Club & Spa, and the falconry experience—all of which exceeded our expectations. The staff were wonderful, the experiences unforgettable, and the food exceptional. We would absolutely return and highly recommend it to everyone!

Swinton is an excellent hotel in a beautiful setting! The GM is just a few months in and improving what was already a quality “offer”. Some personnel changes have been very positive with ongoing modifications being made. Our room (in the Coach House) was chilly on arrival however the provision of supplementary heating soon corrected this. The Game Week lunch was superb (great dishes from Shaun and his kitchen brigade) and incredibly good value! When you get to know a place through regular visits it is however frustrating when some changes are made which are viewed as being retrograde.
