Lots of positives and would definitely consider staying here again if we were to visit the lakes in the future. The hotel is very well presented, all communal areas are clean, tidy and in great condition. The location is brilliant, you are a short 5-10 minute walk from both Windermere’s main town centre, or the lake front at Bowness. There is a local pub opposite which wasn’t bad either. The building stands impressive at the top of the hill, with a decent sized car park in front, the approach is steep, but it’s easy enough to turn around in. Room was a good size and extremely well equipped with some modern features and luxuries you wouldn’t normally expect. That said, there were a few negatives which could be improved upon. Firstly, we both found the bed extremely uncomfortable, the mattress was firm and unforgiving, only a small notch up from sleeping on a camping bed! Secondly, the room was very hot, and difficult to cool down. We were on the top floor, so quite stuffy due to being up in the roof eves. There is no air conditioning and the windows are fitted with safety catches, so they don’t open wide and there was no way to prop the sash window open. Lastly the walls are thin, and the sound insulation is poor, we had a young family next door so it was quite noisy. A couple of other really minor things to mention, the TV remote didn’t work very well. Think the batteries need changing, we did try others from the light up mirror but this was barely working, so I don’t think these had much juice either and whilst the room had an iron, there was no ironing board - again, nothing major. Overall, a decent stay for the price and we feel it represents good value for money. With some small improvements this could be excellent.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely cosy hotel, our room was very comfortable, shower was good as was the bath. Bed was very comfortable and we slept well both nights. It was very quiet. Breakfast was brought to your door in the morning at a time convenient for you and was really nice, choice of cereal, hot roll, yoghurt, juice, tea or coffee. There is a kettle with tea, coffee and milk in the room too. Wifi was good. Our host Jenny was super and very helpful with walks in the area. All in all I would definitely recommend staying here. Don't let the signs of building work outside put you off..it was not an issue at all.

This is a family hotel, I didn't notice it when I booked it. The room was clean and it was a 15-minute walk from the ferry in the town. The landlord had a lot of rules: for example, you can't bring food from the restaurant back to the room, put your shoes on the tray, check out at 10 o'clock, and you can't store your bag after checking out.

Stayed in the yurt for one night and I was really impressed. Log fire in there so that was cosy, beds were comfy and linen really clean. The facilities were great in the main building to games, books, vending machine, bar etc. Toilets were clean didn't need to use the shower. Great views of the lake, would 100% stay again!

We've stayed countless numbers of times, the places is just so good! Set in the delightful little hamlet of Ings, it's a perfect place to stay/eat/drink if you are looking for a base near Windermere or you are just on your way to the Lake District. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained, food is excellent and the on-site brewery produces some of the finest real ales in the Lakes. There are lovely views of the surrounding countryside and a charming brook runs along side the property. It's also a cosy place to visit in winter. Staff are always friendly and helpful and overall. It's great value for money. Dogs are also welcome inside. We'll be going back soon!

It was a good stay overall, but initially disappointed with the first room allocation. We were able to move rooms when I communicated I wasn’t happy. It was a lovely sunny day, but there is no adequate outdoor seating and definitely not enough of it. Me and my husband ended up sitting uncomfortably on a wall in the garden area! This definitely needs to improve due to its remote location and not having anywhere else to go, other than sit inside. The food is what makes this place and is of the highest standard. The evening meal and breakfast was superb.

The hotel is at the foot of the mountain with beautiful scenery. The staff is very good, very skilled in using translation software to communicate, and helped us carry the suitcases. The transportation here is not convenient enough. The 505 bus runs once an hour, so be sure to check the timetable in advance. There is a camper station nearby and paddling by the lake. It was Sunday, and it was a good place for nearby residents to drive here for leisure.

Booked through ******* where this hotel had a rating of 9. I would put at nearer a 7. Rooms were ok….clean and comfortable enough. En-suite was nice as had been refurbed. Communal areas tired. Breakfast area and restaurant more like a cafe. I had the garlic mushrooms with lemon and time on bruschetta with a side salad, this was a starter as a main. Really weird flavor….really didn’t enjoy. Creamy garlic mushrooms would have been nicer….the bruschetta wasn’t toasted hardly and was soggy…£9. Hubby lasagne was nice £17. Noticed someone getting sausage and mash in a smallish bowl. Two sausages and a bit of mash….£19.50! 😳 Also saw on the menu a cheesecake dessert was £9.50!!! Expensive and average! Breakfast was awful….cold plates, barely cooked bacon and sausage….hash browns that you couldn’t even cut into….just not nice! Staff were friendly enough but on arrival our tv wasn’t working….husband went down twice to advise….as he was desperate to watch the football. Was told it would be 8pm (2 hours) before anyone could help. Was offered another room instead but when he went to look at it he said it was a bit grim dark and dingy so stayed where we were and managed to get tv going. Then we realised we weren’t given the WiFi password when checked in so back down to reception he went….more than a little annoyed by this time! Anyway overall as I said just bang average….just off a really busy road too so road noise from our room was bad too….the header photo on ******* had a water view so that’s where we thought it was set. Wouldn’t stay again…..would have rather spent my money elsewhere….costly average experience 👎

DDANThis hotel is a good choice for self-guided travel. The location is not far from the station. It takes about 5 or 6 minutes to push your luggage downhill. It is a family hotel. The facilities are incomparable to the big hotels, but they have everything they should have, and the landlord The couple are very enthusiastic, and the breakfast is very good. The three-story loft has two double-bed rooms, the room is not big, but the bathroom is large, and the second floor is a twin room and two rooms. Rrockylee1. The location of the hotel is very good. It takes only 10 minutes to walk to the cruise ship terminal. There are many restaurants nearby and the accommodation is very convenient. The room is large and there is a living room, unexpected, but the living room side is on the bedside, next to the street, sooner or later, some noisy, especially the UK speed is generally faster, pay attention to it. Breakfast is prepared in advance bread yogurt cereal milk, some in the refrigerator, some in the locker, do not have too much expectations. 2. If you come by car, you will need a parking card with the front desk, which costs £3 a day. There are unlimited parking. There are several places to park. It is actually very convenient. When you leave, you can go to the parking lot to drive first, and put the key and parking card at the front desk when you come back.

GGuest UserVisited with wife for weekend break. First class service from moment you arrive at gatehouse. All staff attentive, polite and easy to have a conversation with. This starts with concierge, moves on to reception and on to bar, pub, restaurant and spa. Room was decent size - do not need massive room as will not spend much time in here. Nicely decorated, clean and well attended. We had room with hot tub on balcony which was great. Had food in hotel bar, in pub attached to spa and In restaurant. All excellent. Bar staff great with good choice of drinks and cocktails. Perhaps stock some gluten free bottled beer in future! Apart from that catered for my gluten intolerance very well and on second visit to restaurant they remembered this and had gluten free canopies for me. Only negative for me was daily car park charge because I didn’t book direct but I know for future. Well worth a visit.

GGuest UserWe stayed in one of the individual 'chalet' style twin room bungalows lining the drive to the main house for 4 nights. These rooms offer a lot of privacy and are quiet with your own front door entrance and windows and balcony with table and chairs overlooking the very pretty and well tended gardens. The beds and bedding were really comfortable, you could control the radiators to your preferred temperature and the bathroom, whilst small, was functional with plenty of hot water and good quality towels. It was really helpful to have allocated parking right outside and all the chalets have this. It's a very short walk to the restaurant/reception. The small bar and restaurant is traditional in style and nicely laid out with many tables offering views of the beautiful gardens. There are plenty of cooked breakfast options and the produce and cooking is exceptional. We ate in the restaurant on two evenings on a DB&B rate. Lovely meals - the lamb cutlets and sea bass fillets in particular were knockout. As others have commented the staff and service is exceptional. From arrival to departure you are made to feel like a very valued guest and nothing is too much trouble from the incredibly efficient and friendly team. There are many other much higher end hotels who could learn customer service from the Burn How. Only a 5 minute walk down the hill to the lake and nearby shops and restaurants, just added to the benefits of staying here. We would definitely book this hotel again if visiting the area, and would highly recommend.

GGuest UserGood bits: our suite was very nice and the breakfast food on offer was good even though you had to come down at a prearranged timeslot. The bad is that the overall management of this hotel, in our experience, was very poor. There were multiple occasions (in just 2 days) when what was arranged and agreed was just not acted upon. Here's some examples: On arrival a member of staff kindly reserved a breakfast table for 4 the following morning (as we were staying with another couple) but it was taken by somebody else when we came down so we had to assume this information wasn't passed to the breakfast team. We then arranged for seating for 5 people at breakfast the following morning - different staff member said that was fine and made a note of the room numbers - yet again this wasn't done and when we asked them to make up an unoccupied table set up for 4 to a 5 (plenty of room to add another chair ) this was refused. Weeks before arriving our friends had asked for their room to be set up as a twin rather than a double but of course that hadn't been done either. We asked for our room not to be serviced during our 2 night stay yet the first morning staff knocked to come in when my partner was on the toilet - again relevant details not passed on. We were told we had reserved parking spot at the rear of the property but parking was a free-for-all. The reception area seemed to be locked up and unmanned most of the time. Yes, there was a bell to ring, but you'd expect a member of staff to be visible especially in the mornings. Finally, whilst most staff were friendly and polite, one senior staff member was off-hand when dealing with a simple request (and we overheard her being brusque with another couple). Her attitude was unpleasant and gave the impression that customers were really a bit of a nuisance. Maybe we just picked a bad weekend so whilst it wasn't a totally awful stay by any means there was enough incidents over a short period to put us off staying there again or recommending it to anyone if it continues to be run in this slack and unprofessional way. I do worry for its future.

RR3199BXloubyTravelled with my partner for a 2 night stay in Windermere - stayed in room 7 ground floor. Perfectly placed, close to the lake with plenty of pubs, shops and restaurants around. Easy to get to and no problem parking. Codes to enter the house and rooms are sent by Latimer House - quick, easy and convenient to use. The heating is on a timer, which is understandable for the size of the house. We found the temp ok in our room. Would recommend to bring pjs/dressing gown if you tend to get chilly. Room was spacious with a large bed, 2 large chairs and table to sit and relax. Plenty of tea/coffee with a kettle in the room to make your own which was handy. Double doors which led out to a generous space with a nice relaxed view, chairs and table were there to use - it rained a lot during our stay so didn't get a chance to use them but would've been lovely to pop outside if the weather was a bit nicer. Bathroom was modern, and shower was fine. Heater in the bathroom to warm towels. Bath sheets and hand towels on the bed on arrival. One point which was not really an issue - eyelashes were left on the table next to the bed. Assuming from previous guests - popped them in the bin. Curtains could do with being washed/replaced - slightly grubby around the doors/windows but I think this would be due to the age of the house rather than house keeping not being up to scratch. Our score reflects this. Overall, we would definitely stay again. Perfect location, not badly priced, good size rooms and a great break in Windemere. x

GGuest UserOur views on our visit to The Belsfield Hotel are rather mixed. It is an imposing and impressive building in a fantastic location overlooking the lake. Check in was good with all required information provided. Unfortunately upon entering our room ( room 30 ) we were disappointed as it was not as I expected. I had booked a suite as we have done several times at other hotels . Previously we have found a suite has consisted of a separate room for relaxing with the bedroom attached. On this occasion it was a larger bedroom with a sitting area and small table for two. The hotel’s website does state that a suite may , or may not , have a separate lounge area and so on this occasion I accepted we had drawn the short straw . No issues there . However the website also states the suites offer stunning views and a roll top bath . There was no roll top bath as promised, only an older standard plastic panelled bath. As we are planning on restyling our bathroom assessing a roll top bath in practice was one of the features that swayed our decision to stay here . With regard to the stunning views . When sitting at the table in our room having a coffee before breakfast our view was what appeared to be an old , derelict greenhouse / storage building . Not exactly an appealing view to begin your day . When I mentioned this at check out I was told by the member of staff that another company deals with the website description and so nothing to do with him . A rather strange and dismissive response and not the lasting impression you want when leaving the hotel . Overall the hotel is a very enjoyable place to visit with several areas to relax on the ground floor . Sitting on the terrace overlooking the lake was fantastic and would thoroughly recommend it . A special mention for Lucien who did a fantastic job of providing cocktails and was very knowledgeable and proficient in this . A credit to the hotel . The hotel has so many good points that may , for some , outweigh the negatives around the room but unsure if we would return or recommend.

GGuest UserWent here for just an overnight on our wedding anniversary. We are in our 70's (just in my wife's case) and celebrating 23 years of a 'second chance' Room was perfect with large balcony, enabling us to make the most of a day of sunshine. Chocolates and wine left for us and everything spotless. From checking in to dining through advice on the area to checking out - staff were perfect in their attention. Had table as requested next to windows, for the view, for dinner Restaurant service also could not be faulted. In Ireland for a wedding on our anniversary next year but will need another visit here well before then.

GGuest UserI booked this stay for my husbands birthday. I have stayed at a few spa resorts and to be honest I was left underwhelmed by the experience. We had a 'dirty towel ' in the room which smelt dirty and had stains on it. I did get it changed and the lady was very apologetic. If tgat was it then it would have been fine however the service in the bar was atrocious. We went to the bar on Saturday evening. We had to wait 10 minutes to get served which was fine but then from asking for our cocktail order we had to wait a further 25 minutes. The poor young boy on the bar was new and didn't know how to make cocktails so he had to wait for Leah, to take over. That would have been fine except Leah was flirting with 2 men at the bar from a wedfing party and kept us waiting 25 minutes from placing our order to actually receiving it. Then I know it is petty but when you are buying a passion fruit martini you sort of expect the half passion fruit. But no. Not here. There wasn't any. Neither were there any cocktail straws to drink it - only full sized strangers?? Apart from the dirty towel the room was mediocre. Please can someone from management lie on the sofa bed in room 275? The springs in the mattress have gone and my poor daughter had to endure a night on what was excruciating. I think a bag of spanners would have been more comfortable. Please can the manager just check thus out? Finally as I said I have stayed in a lot of spa resorts and though this is a beautiful location the attention to detail let's it down. No tissues or slippers in the room and we booked for 3 but only had towels and gowns for 2. For the price I expected more sorry.
