The Plough Inn

We had a long drive and looked on the map for somewhere to stop for dinner. Randomly picked The Plough and are so glad we did! To be honest the restaurant was much nicer than we realised, and though we were underdressed and bedraggled midway through our journey, we were still treated with such care. Very polite staff and the food was wonderful. We've gotten so accustomed to sub-standard chains that actual, proper restaurants are becoming a rarity; this is one, and it deserves our custom. My wife's salmon dish was perfection, and my lamb, wow, I can still taste the mint jus! Kitchen also more than happy to make our toddler a dish the way she likes it - sausage and chips, with peas and gravy kept separate. Our only regret is that it's a long way from home, so we're not sure when/if we'll be able to visit again. We can only hope, as I need a second knickerbocker glory just to verify it was 10/10. Thank you for an excellent meal.
The Baltic Inn & Restaurant

Stayed at the Baltic on Friday night. Arrived around 6 o clock and both our rooms had just been floor mopped and were still wet smelling of cleaning fluid and there was no heating on. A very unwelcoming start. The Inn had very few residents staying so had ample time to prepare rooms earlier in the day. Our room had a grotty old settee parked at the end of the bed with a shabby cover thrown over it. The fridge had not even been wiped out and was dirty. Duvets on the beds not adequate enough for that time of year. Around 4.30 a.m. we were woken by the fire alarm going off so had to trail down to the Fire exit. Not a single person on the premises to take charge other than the few guests staying - we had to ring a number provided and were told there would be someone there in 5 minutes - this was more like 15 minutes or so before the owner turned up. An apology given - it was a false alarm. Not a good situation on a very cold February night - what if there had been a fire? Cooked Breakfast was served 15 minutes after time specifically asked for and was cold. This could be a lovely place to stay but accommodation standards very low. Advice would be to steer clear.
The Cawdor
4.4/541 Reviews
The Cawdor delivers everything that is promised. Efficient check in, very comfortable room, top class food, excellent service. We received a phone call on the day of our scheduled check in, asking if we would like a table reserved for dinner. Very professional. I would definitely recommend The Cawdor.
Stradey Park Hotel

We were greeted by very friendly receptionists and the entrance area was very nice. We had a drink in the bar before going up to our room and again looked after very well by Matthew and Jacob, which continued during our stay. The room was slightly dated, especially the bathroom, but was spotlessly clean and comfortable, especially the lovely bed. We requested a sea view via email beforehand and this was answered immediately and we got exactly what we wanted. On our first night we ate in the Galleria and the second night in the bar. Both very comfortable and the food was very good and reasonably priced. The menu was slightly limited and a couple of specials may have been a good idea but everything we had was very good. In fact the beef burger was incredible. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice. All in all a great choice and we would definitely return. Great location for exploring the area and some of the nicest staff you could wish to meet.

Diplomat Hotel and Spa

A truly well run, warm and welcoming hotel that is a credit to everyone that works there. As someone that travels a lot for business, staying at a hotel that is truly welcoming and genuinely friendly is actually quite rare. Every single member of staff was friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble - every single request was handled with a smile and genuine want to help. The food is exceptional, hearty and fresh and a real credit to the hotel. The rest areas are clean, comfortable and warm and the bar has a great selection of drinks for all tastes, again all served with a smile. The bedrooms are clean, well presented and has everything you need for a restful nights sleep. Very much I felt like this was a home from home.
