The location of Loop on Leith strikes a near-perfect balance. Although the hotel sits close to the lively Lebuh Chulia, it is cleverly tucked away along Leith Street. Chulia Street is a hub for backpackers and nightlife, so evenings can get noisy. By setting itself slightly inward, Loop on Leith neatly avoids the brunt of street noise, while still placing you just a four-minute walk from the iconic Blue Mansion (Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion), where you can easily begin your street food adventure. Its positioning works as an ideal base for urban exploration. Head north and you’ll find the refined charm of the heritage district; head south and you step straight into the vibrant pulse of the city center. The hotel embraces an Urban Chic concept, deliberately doing away with traditional heavy carpeting—a smart choice in a tropical climate, as it helps reduce mustiness and allergens. Instead, modern hard flooring and bright lighting create a space that feels noticeably fresher and cleaner, both visually and physically, compared to older Peranakan-style hotels in the same price range. Rooms here tend to be on the smaller side. For two guests traveling with large luggage, the space can feel a bit tight. It’s best suited for travelers who spend most of their day বাইরে exploring and simply want a comfortable place to rest at night—think light packers or efficiency-focused “urban explorers.” At roughly RM250 per night, Loop on Leith delivers a boutique-like aesthetic and standardized service at a budget hotel price point. The value-for-money and overall sense of comfort are impressive. It lacks the heavy, sometimes oppressive atmosphere of heritage buildings, and also avoids the blandness of chain hotels. This makes it especially appealing to young couples, solo travelers, or business visitors. If you’re looking for a spacious executive suite, this may not be the right choice. But if your priorities are efficiency, cleanliness, and stepping straight into great food and scenery the moment you walk out, it stands out as a smart option in George Town’s mid-range market. For an even better stay, consider requesting a higher-floor room—it offers a slightly more open view and helps buffer early morning street noise from passing motorcycles.

Everything about this hotel was great. We booked a sea view room and the view from the window was absolutely stunning. Just cross the road downstairs and you're at the beach. There are also many snack bars downstairs. The staff were very warm and responsible, always diligently resolving any issues we had. When we checked out, we accidentally left something behind in the hotel and didn't realize it. The hotel even sent an email to inquire about it and safely kept our belongings. It was a fantastic experience overall!

The hotel staff were all very polite, the bed was comfortable, and the shower had great water pressure. They even noted my request and gave me a quiet room with no noise. The breakfast was decent, and the coffee was strong and really woke me up. There's a mall right to the left when you exit, and a supermarket downstairs. Across the street, there's a 7-Eleven, and GAMA also has a supermarket downstairs. It's a moderate distance to tourist attractions, about a 20-minute walk, and about a 30-minute drive to the airport if there's no traffic. Little India is nearby, so there are quite a few Indian people around. I'm not used to it since I don't know much about the culture, but we mostly kept to ourselves. However, after each room cleaning, we'd find a few long hairs that weren't ours, which I hope they can improve upon.

The hotel is just a 5-minute walk from the jetty and has great facilities. It's quiet at night, and conveniently located near Chew Jetty and the street art. Perfect for a city walk, though there aren't many dining options nearby. A Chinese-speaking staff member at the front desk was a huge help; when I accidentally booked an immediate Grab ride and couldn't cancel, I rushed downstairs, and he assisted me immediately. He was very friendly and answered all my questions. Penang is wonderful, I'll definitely be back!

I was upgraded to a Deluxe room but it was at the extreme corner next to the service staircase. Grateful for the upgraded but the room conditions were not up to par . Hair in shower room , the shower holder fell when I was taking it out and it dropped on my toe . Hence the blue black toe shown ( hehe ) . I could not sleep the whole night as the air con was very very noisy even when I lower the adjustment. The day curtain was torn . I sound it out to reception the next morning to see whether they can change my room as I was staying for another 2 nights . They did and I reckoned it was another up grade as now the room has a standing shower room . In the other previous room , you have to stand in the bath tub to shower and for a man of 65 , it is a bit tricky . The hotel really needs an up grade too . It is in a good location and CAT bus is nearby . The CAT shuttle is a complimentary bus that moves around the town area . The saving grace for my trip was that the staff was up to par and reacted quickly . Well done on this . Now , I wait for my toe to heal .

The room is spacious, and Harun always does an excellent job cleaning it; his service is enthusiastic. Facilities: Good. Service: Very good, though it's a shame they don't allow a slightly later checkout 😂. They require checkout at 11 AM, and by 12 PM, they were already calling us to hurry up and leave. They're quite strict about not allowing late check-outs, probably because rooms are in high demand during peak season. Environment: Very quiet, you can't hear any motorbike noise, and it's convenient for getting to all the attractions.

Although the hotel opened in 2014, the rooms' facilities and cleanliness are still very well-maintained. The shower has great water pressure, making for a very comfortable bathing experience. The pillows in the room were a bit uncomfortable for me – too high and too springy. The bed was large and the mattress was very comfortable. My room didn't come with bathrobes. It was quiet at night, and the air conditioning in the room was strong. Directly opposite the hotel is a large shopping mall, and a big supermarket is not far away. It's also within walking distance to various attractions. The infinity pool is excellent, with a good long lane for swimming. Breakfast is served from 6:30 AM to 10 AM, and the food selection is substantial and fitting for a 4-star hotel, offering everything you'd expect.

Very convenient location, within walking distance to KOMTAR. The room is simple but clean and comfortable. There are plenty of food options nearby, so you’ll never run out of places to explore and eat. It’s easy to find, which makes check-in hassle-free. I especially love that they provide laundry service for every guest staying here , such a thoughtful and practical touch. One night entitle to one wash

First, the cons: The hotel is a bit old, and the decor is quite retro. They don't provide bottled water, but there are empty bottles you can use to fetch drinking water from the hallway. This was actually very inconvenient; during my whole stay in Penang, I ended up buying bottled water from 7-11 or FamilyMart. Now for the pros: The room was very clean, which meets my core requirement for a hotel stay. An unexpected surprise was that my room had an incredible, unbeatable sea view – it was beautiful and instantly therapeutic. The location is also very convenient; you can basically walk to all the attractions in George Town.

The location is fantastic, right by two large shopping malls, making dining and shopping incredibly convenient—just a three to four-minute walk away. While you'll need a taxi to get to the old town attractions, it means the area is much quieter. There's a Hua Yang restaurant right under the nearby Gurney Plaza, and the wait times are much shorter than in Kuala Lumpur, so I finally got to eat there! The facilities are a bit lacking and can't compare to five-star hotels in China. However, the service is excellent, and they even offer a shuttle bus. Breakfast was a bit disappointing; they start clearing up right on time, and the variety isn't huge. Overall, the service was very good and proactive.

Ssj91this hotel is good overall, but when we arrived, they told us that we didn't have a booking with them and they couldn't locate our booking and details. the room was also said to be taken, and they are waiting for a cancellation in order to get our room. There is a lot of confusion among staff. some visitors were told to leave their rooms once they have entered. we waiting 1 hr 30 min to get our room. so check in was at 4.30pm. parking was also very inconvenient, as we had to park at the basement, which was impossible to even get one if you came into the hotel late and a T&G card was also needed to get validated before leaving the hotel if we wanted a free spot. Room was very spacious and clean. the tea and coffee was hard like its never been changed.

HHonghaizhixiaoFThe hotel's location is decent, and the building itself is impressive. The lobby service was good; we arrived in the morning, and while early check-in wasn't an option for most, we were able to store our luggage and head out to explore. The room size was acceptable, and it was kept clean. The Wi-Fi speed was a bit slow, but housekeeping did a great job every day. There's a lively night market right downstairs, bustling every night except Wednesdays. It's about a 15-minute walk to the Mural Street. Breakfast was fine, and the restaurant staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. During our stay, there was some exterior renovation happening, which the hotel informed us about in advance. However, the most annoying issue was the highly unstable water supply during those days. We occasionally had no hot water during the day, and sometimes even a complete water cutoff. When the water did return, it was very yellow. On the evening of the 23rd, there was no hot water at all, and we had to wait until 11:30 PM for a hot shower. This was the biggest flaw of our stay, and I hope the hotel addresses and improves this.

YYeyuexuangeHidden in George Town, Penang, is a century-old heritage hotel, which was the most pleasant surprise of my trip. The hotel is divided into the Heritage Wing and the Victory Annexe, both largely preserving their original historical charm. From the antique elevator to the brass key wall, every detail tells a story. Teak staircases are carved with Malaysian motifs, and the rooms feature hardwood furniture alongside Fujian blue and white tiles, creating a stylish blend of East and West. The infinity pool offers direct views of the strait, and at sunset, the orange glow reflects on the water, allowing you to fully soak in Penang's unique seaside Nanyang charm. The century-old corridors are steeped in history, having hosted notable figures like Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, and Sun Yat-sen.

KKC CharisIt’s very relaxing. Love the room and the views from the balcony. The in house Italian restaurant offers set lunch and dinner which was a good alternative to the buffet spread at the main dining hall. Breakfast spreads has a good variety of Asian local delights, but a lack in fruits and vegetables options. There is a little play zone with arcade game and a pool table, but some buttons on the machine malfunction and missing balls from the pool set.

GGuest UserThe location is good, but the hotel itself is quite basic and a bit dirty and messy. The fridge in our room was also broken. One of the front desk staff (who looked Chinese, but wasn't) was quite rude. The parking situation is a bit confusing. The day before yesterday, the front desk told us we only needed to pay RM5 once, and then parking would be free afterwards (we'd need to go to the front desk to wave off the charges). However, the next day, a different front desk staff member said it was ”RM5 for the first entry/exit each time.” So, we have no idea how they actually charge for parking; their policy is very confusing. It feels like none of the staff know what they're doing. And charging tourists RM5 for each entry/exit is quite unreasonable, isn't it? When you're on vacation, don't you go in and out of the hotel frequently? Do you really think charging RM5 every single time is reasonable? Charging once a day would be acceptable, but this seems like they're just desperate for money.

EewanwanThis is my second time staying at this hotel, and it continues to deliver a consistently comfortable experience. The room is clean, well-maintained, and designed in a simple, functional style that feels similar to an ibis concept practical and easy to settle into. The highlight is definitely the bed. It’s soft and very comfortable, and even the single beds are generously sized. The bedsheets feel like cotton, and the hotel provides two types of pillows ,one soft and one medium-firm ,which makes it easy to get good sleep. The bathroom is clean with proper dry and wet separation, and having a fridge in the room is a nice added convenience. Location is another strong point. Within just a 1-minute walk, there are plenty of food options, from open-air local stalls to air-conditioned restaurants. Despite that, the area remains quiet at night, which I really appreciate. The fact that I chose to come back says a lot. Overall, great value for money and I would definitely stay here again
