Alquimista Montevideo

We spent two nights in Alquimiste and we never wanted to leave! The guesthouse which is almost 100 years old is full of antique furniture, original artwork, and even has a lookout tower on the 4th floor boasting 360 views of the Carrasco neighborhood. It is a 2 minute walk from the beach and very close to some of Montevideo’s most famous restaurants. Carolina and Mark are delightful and happy to help with anything. The restaurant is lovely, and the breakfasts is a real treat. Hot croissants, freshly baked scones with marmalade and cream cheese, freshly squeezed orange juice, and beautifully plated granola we’re just some of our favorites. Staying at Alquimiste, you really feel like you are apart of something special!

Tres Cruces
The hotel is very close to the bus station, opposite the station, the car to the east corner and the airport are all here by car, very convenient. It is 6,7 kilometers away from the old city. In Uruguay, be sure to go to Punta del Este in the east corner and the small town of Colonia. These two places are much better than the capital and feel much better. They are all at the bus station. It is two hours to go to the east corner and two and a half hours to the town of Colonia. Both places are recommended to stay for at least one night.

Ciudad Vieja

Everything was excellent. The room had recently been redecorated and was very clean, the restaurant is superb, hotel staff was very friendly and pointed us to interesting places in the city. It is at a central location in the city so it's great if you're planning to explore by walking on the rambla. We hope to visit again soon!

Montevideo Centro
This hotel is ideally located to walk to the central (shopping) and old historic parts of the city. It is also a short walk from the coastal ”rambla”cycle and promenade. Reasonably priced restaurant / bar and breakfast service - comes with 22% discount if you pay with a non-Uruguayan credit card (as do all restaurant in Uruguay). We had nice big room on an upper floor with views over the Rio de la Plata and the sunset (but only top floor rooms have balcony - you can access the rooftop terrace but there is not much there other than the view). Reception very helpful in organizing visits, taxis and bike hire (these are available on site). Only slight criticism was location of air conditioning in large rooms meant we didn't benefit from it in the sleeping area and, during a very hot spell, this was a problem. Would recommend staying here.

The rooms are comfortable, and although they are not that big, I had plenty of space. The temperature in the room was quite comfortable, so I didn’t even turn the heater on in any day. Breakfast was nice, and the “doce de leite” was incredibly good. The only things that would benefit from improvement would be: restaurant (the food at dinner was not worthy the money at all), availability of cork screw and wine glasses in the room. I wanted to open a wine bottom and the hotel sent someone to open the bottle for me, instead of sending the cork screw…

Montevideo Centro
The hotel staff is great. The rooms are huge but need renovation. My bath tube had problems with water drainage. Taking a shower while the water reached my ankle. Not pleasant. The breakfast is fair enough. But had another issue. I asked for a fried egg and the waitress denied. “No more eggs”. A few minutes later a local guest asked and got it on a plate. As I questioned the double standard there was no understandable answer. Sad experience. At night the street are very dark around the hotel and there are plenty homeless people.

As soon as I arrived at the hotel I was petrified looking at how gorgeous it is. We were really well received by Mr. Rodrigo Tango (Night Manager) that made our check-in and provided us with the BEST Hotel room I ever visited. The stay was perfect, room, view amenities, comfort, breakfast ... everything. Thank you so much for the opportunity to stay some days with you!

The hotel was very comfortable and was very comfortable. No complaint about cleaning, the problems are several: The bath air extractor emittes a continuous noise as soon as the light is set on, in fact the first time I thought it was the noise of the contiguous room pipes while The state of the table with the oxidized foot and the edges of the surface was dismantled The terrace with two chairs from each chair and a air conditioned with more iron and accumulated dirt, that useful surface The only shovel next to the bed sticked with tape and out of the wall when I swallowed the cable of my mobile phone The so small bathroom with the toilet paper so sticked to the toilet that you have to practically take it out before you have to use it Obviously listening to the conversations of the neighbouring rooms has been the least of the trouble. The reception staff with which I check-out was the same as 24 hours before I managed the check-in, there was no question from her side except to confirm if it was really a check-out that was supposed to finish 7 days later. The room was not in line with the photos that were published and made me choose this site. Here I leave my own to serve as a reference to future potential customers.
