Jieyang Journey: The Charm of the Ancient City and Culinary Exploration

📍 Jinxian Gate: The ancient city gate, brimming with charm Upon entering Jieyang, the first sight to greet you is the majestic Jinxian Gate. Whether by day or night, it exudes a unique atmosphere. 🆓 Ascend to the city tower, where the middle level bears witness to history, and the upper level is home to the glazed pavilion, as if you were in a fairyland. 📍 Jieyang Academy: Ancient charm, red walls reflecting the sun Next, I visited the Jieyang Academy, a building filled with Chaozhou characteristics that is simply breathtaking. The red walls on the outside transported me to the Forbidden City, immersing me in the weight of history. 📍 City God Temple: A stunning entrance, magnificent and splendid Moving forward, the grandeur of the City God Temple left me in awe. The building is as beautiful as a piece of art, making one linger and forget to return. 📍 Zhongshan Road: A century-old arcade, where time flows Strolling down Zhongshan Road, I felt the peaceful years of the city. This historic street, less commercialized, bears more traces of time. I also made a point of visiting the Green Lion Hall, but unfortunately, it was closed; I heard it had moved to a new location. 🍜 Jieyang Cuisine: A feast for the taste buds Of course, how could one miss out on the local cuisine when in Jieyang? 🌭 Pig Intestine Stuffed with Glutinous Rice: Sweet and aromatic, rich in texture This dish was a delightful surprise. Pig intestines filled with glutinous rice, peanuts, chestnuts, and mushrooms, drizzled with sweet syrup and topped with coriander, each bite was full of happiness. 🍳 Sand-Blasted Salted Egg Yolk/Sand-Blasted Taro: A mix of sweet and salty, endlessly memorable The sand-blasted salted egg yolk and taro are also local specialties. The salted egg yolk is delicate and becomes more flavorful as you eat; the taro is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, sweet but not cloying. 🦪 Oyster Pancakes in front of the Academy: Crispy and delicious, irresistibly fresh In front of the academy, I tasted authentic oyster pancakes. The golden crust and tender oyster meat with each bite were intoxicating. 🍜 Old Master Noodles: A traditional noodle shop, extremely popular This noodle shop, open for 60 years, is one of the oldest in Jieyang. There's often a queue, but the taste is definitely worth the wait. The noodles are chewy, and the sauce is rich, leaving a lasting impression. 🥠 Open-Mouthed Smiles: Freshly fried and sold, crispy and delicious Then there were the freshly fried Open-Mouthed Smiles, each bite a taste of childhood, crispy and delicious, making one unable to stop. 🍵 Xianxing Sweet Soup: Sweet but not cloying, refreshing and greasy-cutting Finally, I visited the Xianxing Sweet Soup shop. The sweet soups here come in a variety of flavors, including delicious roasted sausages. The sweet but not cloying taste provided a cool respite on a hot summer day. 🌯 Sugar Onion Thin Pancake: A perfect combination of maltose and coriander The sugar onion thin pancake offers another flavor, with the maltose in the middle complementing the coriander, each bite a surprise. 🍲 Beef Kway Teow: Delicious soup, chewy rice noodles In the town, I tasted a bowl of authentic beef kway teow. The soup was savory, the rice noodles were elastic, and the beef was tender and juicy, truly satisfying with every bite. This journey to Jieyang allowed me to experience the charm of the ancient city and the allure of its cuisine. Not only does it have beautiful scenery, but also unforgettable food.
