Osaka Castle Park

Located in central Osaka, Osaka Castle Park is a historical park centered around the ruins of Osaka Castle. The park's most striking structure is the Osaka Castle Main Tower, and from its top floor you can take in a panoramic view of the Osaka Plain and the surrounding cityscape. The park is also a well-known flower-viewing spot in Osaka. Nishinomaru Garden is famous for its cherry blossoms and offers evening cherry blossom viewing in spring; the plum grove is planted with many varieties of plum trees that often bloom first in early spring; the northern area also has a peach grove and the densely wooded Forest of Remembrance. Flowers bloom in turn throughout the four seasons, so visitors at different times can enjoy different scenery. The park also has performance venues such as the Osaka Castle Hall and the Music Hall, as well as sports facilities including a softball field, a rugby and soccer field, an archery range, and the Shudokan. Residents often come here to exercise and relax on ordinary days, and visitors can also feel the everyday life of this historical park. The walkway beside the moat's stone wall offers a wide open view, making it a great spot to capture the castle keep and flowers in the same frame. Around the main keep, many stone walls built of massive boulders remain, and the stone walls on both sides of the moat rise steeply, majestic and imposing, making them important remains of the Osaka Castle defensive system from the Tokugawa period.Osaka · 17.5 km from Ikeda
Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan

Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan

7.7
4.7/5
4.2k reviews
Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan is a large aquarium themed around the Pacific Ocean. The visitor experience is designed as a journey "from land to sea": upon entering, you pass through the tunnel-shaped "Water Gate" tank, watching tropical fish swim overhead; then, you take a long escalator to the top floor, starting from the sunlit "Japanese Forest" tank, searching for marine life amidst the sounds of waterfalls and lush greenery; next, downhill ride along a spiral ramp, circling the central "Pacific Ocean" tank, passing through exhibits on the Tasman Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Japan Trench. The same tank appears repeatedly on different floors, offering different perspectives from above, at eye level, and looking up, making the journey feel like diving around the entire Pacific Ocean. The aquarium houses over 600 species and tens of thousands of creatures. The core "Pacific Ocean" tank is about nine meters deep and holds over 5,000 tons of water, where the iconic whale sharks leisurely swim, alongside large manta rays flapping their "wings" and schools of silver fish circling the currents. In the "Tasman Sea" tank, spotted dolphins swim gracefully and dynamically. The "Arctic Circle" exhibit uses two levels to recreate the ice surface and the seawater beneath the ice, with ringed seals moving around near the ice edge. In the dimly lit "Sea Moon Milky Way," jellyfish appear like floating stars, slowly flickering in and out, making it a popular photo spot in the aquarium. It is recommended to allow half a day for the visit, as most of the crowds are concentrated in the central large water tank. When downhill ride the ramp, pay attention to the small and medium-sized water tanks on both sides. The penguin, sea lion and other exhibits are scattered along the route, and you may miss them if you walk by in a hurry.Osaka · 18.6 km from Ikeda
Osaka Castle Museum

Osaka Castle Museum

7.3
4.7/5
2.9k reviews
The Osaka Castle Museum is the core structure of Osaka Castle. In 1583, Toyotomi Hideyoshi began construction of the castle here, earning it the nickname "Hideyoshi's castle." The current museum, seen today, is a reinforced concrete reconstruction completed in 1931 based on the design from the Toyotomi era. Its interior has been converted into a museum showcasing the history of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Osaka Castle. Standing atop a tall stone foundation, the building features white walls adorned with green roof tiles. Its upturned eaves are decorated with gold-leaf tigers and golden shachihoko (mythical creatures with tiger heads and fish bodies), making it an instantly recognizable landmark of Osaka. Visiting the tower and viewing exhibitions are the main activities here: the small theater on the first floor loops several short films about Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Osaka Castle, with Chinese subtitles; the second floor introduces basic knowledge about Osaka Castle and Japanese castles, where visitors can try on restored Sengoku-period helmets and jinbaori for photos, with optional women's kosode available, and also see full-scale replicas of the golden shachihoko and crouching tiger roof ornaments; the third and fourth floors display historical materials about Toyotomi Hideyoshi and the Sengoku period, which are rotated approximately every two months, with the third floor also featuring a restored model of the golden tea room and Osaka Castle models from both the Toyotomi and Tokugawa periods—note that photography is prohibited on these two floors; the fifth floor recreates the fierce battle scenes from the "Summer Siege of Osaka" folding screens using miniature figurines and projections; the seventh floor's "Mechanized Taikoki" uses dynamic miniature dioramas to depict Hideyoshi's life from humble origins to unifying the nation; the eighth floor is an observation deck approximately 50 m above ground, offering panoramic views of Osaka Castle Park and the cityscape. The elevator inside the building only goes up to the fifth floor directly, and the remaining floors require stairs, so visitors with elderly or young children should plan accordingly. The surrounding scenery offers seasonal highlights: cherry blossoms bloom in clusters along the moat and in the park during spring, while fall foliage contrasts with stone walls and white walls, making it another photogenic season beyond the castle tower.Osaka · 17.4 km from Ikeda

Umeda Sky Building, a landmark of Osaka. The Floating Garden Observatory, located at the very top of these connected structures, is one of Japan's leading 360-degree fully open rooftop observation decks. You can enjoy a wide-angle sky panorama of the Osaka cityscape while feeling the pleasant breeze from 173 meters above ground. From "cafe SKY 40" on the 40th floor observation deck, you can relax and enjoy the beautiful sunset, which has been selected as one of the "100 Best Sunsets in Japan," while sipping on an original drink. At night, the starry sky sparkles on the Lumi Sky Walk, a paved path of sparkling stars that gives you the feeling of walking on stars while enjoying the Osaka night view. It's a unique spot with a spectacular view. ■ "Heart Rock" The heart-shaped padlock "Heart Lock" is a very popular item at the Floating Garden Observatory. There are 11 different colors available: red, gold, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, white, black, and light blue! Your names and the date can be engraved on it, and it can be attached to the promise fence in the Lumi Deck, an area on the roof where heart locks can be attached. You can enjoy your own unique photo with the colorful heart locks attached as the background. ■ "Soda float" The most popular drink at Cafe SKY 40 on the 40th floor is the Color Pop Soda Float. The highlight of this drink is the soft serve ice cream on top of the colorful soda, which is sprinkled with sparkling stars! You can choose your favorite flavor or your favorite color! The photo will look even more spectacular if you add a heart-shaped icing cookie, which are sold locally. Take some photos with the magnificent scenery as your backdrop. ■ Sparkling wine This special plan includes a half 375ml bottle of Martini Brut sparkling wine (usually sold for 1,500 yen) at Cafe SKY 40 on the 40th floor of the Sky Garden, home-roasted almonds and dried fruits, and a pair of tickets to the Sky Garden. Why not toast with your loved one, friends, or family while admiring the magnificent view from the Sky Garden? This is a recommended plan that is perfect for an after-party after your meal. Enjoy a wonderful time as you gaze upon the grand panoramic view of the city that unfolds before your eyes.Osaka · 14.1 km from Ikeda

The experience was fun and informative. We had so much fun. There was a mission to hunt down all the stems and it was great fun however the main activity which is buying the souvenir is not that great due to the fact that we had to wait too long in the line anything else is great. It’s a must visit.

I always wanted to checked out Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan since years ago but only now we have the chance. Sadly we were just went to Singapore Oceanarium, which is newer and had huge collections of marine life especially a lot more Jelly Fishes than Osaka. A Few differences Osaka has Whales, Penguins and Sea Lion, and Seal. Singapore does not have that. The crowds in Osaka Kaiyukan is really too crowded.

There aren't many tourists, so it's recommended to reach the top an hour before sunset so you can get a good shot of the sunset. The rooftop has full glass windows so you can see Osaka Castle from afar. You can also buy a drink and find a seat indoors to slowly experience the sky garden.

Umeda Sky Building is definitely worth visiting in Osaka. The architecture is impressive, and the views from the Floating Garden Observatory are beautiful, especially around sunset when you can see the city lights coming on. It’s a great place for photos and a nice way to see Osaka from above. Highly recommended!
