The room itself was boutique like and comfortable. The shower was good, temp and power. The beds were also comfy. Was nice to have a balcony but the overlook wasnt that great though. The pool area is the selling point, on the roof, free towels, bar area as well. The location of the hotel is good, short walk from the train station and short walk to the town.

Olhos de Água
The hotel has been refurbished to a really high standard, the rooms are very nice with big fresh tiles Scandinavian style decor and a beautiful brand new bathroom. My reason for a lower score is sadly some snagging issues. The shower screen is not big enough meaning the water went everywhere and soaked the bathroom we tried our best and did mention it to housekeeping as we were going through towels like no tomorow - they advised us to mop it up. Another bathroom snag - the water is a tank meaning after 2 short showers ( we travelled as a 3 ) the water was then cold. When travelling off peak I think it’s something you can manage with but if you are a family in peak summer and all want showers a few of you will get cold ones ( I saw the prices for summer and would not pay it knowing that the shower lets the room down sadly). The breakfast- don’t pay it. We were told it’s an English breakfast and we confirmed she meant sausage bacon etc and she said yes. We even double checked as we didn’t want a continental they charge €12 and we were met with cereal toast and watered down juice - if you stay don’t waste your money. The pool is nice- it’s small but clean and well kept. The reception area and grounds are all well kept sadly those few snags for me meant I would not return. We mentioned the issues to reception and they said ‘ ok’. There was no attempt to try and resolve the issues sadly. If you’re travelling alone this hotel is ‘ ok’ as a family avoid.

Praia de Faro
This was my second stay at the Aeromar Hotel on Faro beach, and the first with my partner. This is one of my favourite family owned hotels and at one of my favourite get away locations. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The rooms are exactly what you would want from an authentic local hotel. So much more pleasant than a soulless branded international. The Breakfast buffet is very well priced and will set you up for a day at the beautiful beach or exploring the local nature reserves. The rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and the views amazing. I will definitely be staying at the Aeromar again.

The service was correct, the bathroom quite acceptable, good. Comfortable beds and everything spacious. Being on the fourth floor, there was no noise from the street. The only downside is that you could hear noises like pipes, which was a bit annoying, you could hear that weird noise (we think) when others were taking showers or using the WC. We didnt have breakfast. In general, the experience was good and the staff was attentive.

Areias de São João
- Lovely cosy apartment, that looked even nicer and more modern than on the photos. - While not super big, the space has been very cleverly used and it felt like having my own mini home. - Kitchen is well equipped, so you can really use it to cook your own dinner (I just missed a colander to drain rice and vegetables, but I realise it must be impossible to cater for every individual guest's preferences). Enough pots, pans, cutlery, even a corkscrew and dishcloth are provided. No spices, oil or sponge though, so (quite understandably) you need to buy or bring a few things yourself. - Lovely balcony, sunny most of the day and I could even watch the sea from there. - Good location, as long as you're fine being near ”The Strip” (and not so near the old town). Very close to the beach. In a central but quiet location (at least in February, but my guess is that it's just far enough from the Strip to be reasonably quiet in busier months as well). About a 10 minute walk from Santa Eulalia bus stop from where you can take a bus to Faro (and other places on that route, such as Vilamoura and Quarteira). It's about a 40 minute walk to the main bus terminal. There's also a city bus, but I never really worked out that system (taxis are everywhere too and apparently not very expensive either). - Great value for money. I extended my stay by 2 more nights and certainly recommend this place. While I very much enjoyed my stay here, there are a few small things that could possibly still be improved. Those are really just small details though! - I'd suggest putting a few extra bin bags in the apartment. Cleaning takes place every 3 or 4 days, which is totally fine. But especially if guests cook in the apartment, the rubbish contains food rests and starts smelling after a few days. It's no problem to change the bag myself, but having a few extra bags in the room would be helpful. - There's an illuminated ”emergency exit” sign above the apartment's entrance door, on the inside the room. That's really annoying at night, because it's like always keeping one light switched on in your bedroom. Can't those signs be placed outside the room? I ended up covering it with a dark T-shirt every night, which solved the problem too;-) - There's no socket near the bed.

Please be careful with what kind of accommodation you book, I made the mistake of booking a “twin room” for my elderly parents, it was the most basic of rooms and the only outside space was a tiny triangle of patio at the front of the flat (see pics) my parents had to ask for seats so they could sit out there. Again this is my fault NOT the hotel but I thought I needed to add this in for people who might be thinking of booking the budget room. Cons - The restaurant - if you want to eat at the restaurant you won’t be able to see what’s available on the menu until you have been seated, which can lead to embarrassment if like myself you're allergic to onions and everything on the menu seemed to contain onion so I had to get up in front of everyone and explain to the staff why I was leaving! I asked if there was an alternative which there was but was told if I wanted this I had to pay, having already paid for half board accommodation I found this to be very unfair as it’s an allergy not a choice.! I would suggest that in future to save any embarrassment you would put up the evenings menu where people can make a choice before entering the restaurant. The room itself was very basic no kettle meaning no options to make yourself a drink when wanted. The shower screen was leaking, had someone come out to fix this twice but it was still leaking and so had to keep putting towels on floor. No shuttle bus from hotel to town/beach as advertised on their website. Apparently it finished at the end of their season which isn’t what it said when I booked the holiday and the hotel was fully booked so really can’t understand why it wasn’t running. As other people have stated in these comments the pool chairs were filthy there were some really awful ones full of black stuff!! Pros- A choice of 2 swimming pools, the complex as a whole was very nice like a little village. The reception staff were very helpful and polite.

Wouldn't stay again because of the deposit situation, firstly £200 is alot. I paid ours by debit card as I didn't want 200 euros handing to me at the end of the holiday. I saw the payment come out on my statement and thought no more of it. Expected my money refunded back the end of the week. What they don't tell you is that they put the money back in within 24 hours of you arriving but the transaction won't actually show on your statement anymore. Your balance will just increase and you won't realise where the money came from, so in my case it ended up getting spent! So 200 more than I budgeted for and yet no one even checks your room! Literally no one came and checked our room once, there isn't even a maid service so what even is the point of the deposit. Anyway let's move on to pros - We had a huge ground floor apartment with a very spacious balcony, biggest we've ever had which we were very grateful for. Apartment was clean with plenty of beds, extra pillows, utensils, fridge, microwave, cleaning equipment, toaster, oven. Bathroom with bath and shower. We had air con, modern tv with English channels, watched a few new blockbuster movies but wish we'd brought a fire stick. Nice pool area with kids pool. Didn't eat or drink at the bar but looked lively and welcoming. Beautiful beach nearby with some lovely bars overlooking it. Slide and splash water park is a must if you have children. No queues this time of year! Bonus. Nearby lidl and aldi (next door to each other) to do a big self catering shop. Stayed 7-14th October weather was glorious apart from the last day which was overcast. Also should give Taffy's bar and grill a mention, Welsh owners with lovely food and very cheap compared to the other restaurants. Cons - Deposit as mentioned No cleaner or fresh towels (didn't really mind this) but I know some people will. Our apartment was facing the football field at the back with loud music (some absolute tunes to be fair) but the football matches were loud and could go on until pretty late some days. Rooms not sound proof (again didn't bother me as I always take ear plugs) All in all I got a bargain for a family of 5 and had a glorious week of weather in a clean spacious apartment. If it wasn't for the deposit I would of rated my stay higher Tips - take a small bottle of washing up liquid and a sponge to save you buying these. Also take a little bottle of cooking oil if you intend on having a fry up or you'll end up leaving a barely touched huge bottle behind. I forget this every single time and it annoys me greatly, hopefully writing this will help me remember next time ha ha.

There are relatively few buses in the Albufeira area, so it is still suitable for self-driving. The hotel has free parking, and the receptionist at the front desk is very enthusiastic and meticulous, introducing the surrounding attractions in detail. The size of the room is suitable, but the ventilation system is not very good and the room feels damp. The breakfast is very good, including fruit cake, smooth eggs, yogurt, etc., very rich.
Best Western Hotel Dom Bernardo

Recently refurbished three star property with a four star level of service. While the rooms are small, they are fully equipped and the bathrooms are sparkingly clean. Great air conditioning and good linen and towels. Good shower but sadly with captive liquid soap. Breakfast is the only meal offered but is extremely good even though there are only two hot dishes for us Northern Europeans. Fresh orange juice (whch is wonderful) is available for a small supplement. Given the fact that there's terrific restuarnt across the road (Gimbres by Oleg), the absnce of full meals provision is not noticed. There's s nice lobby bar.

A very clean, quiet and very friendly family run hotel not to far from centre of luz. Stayed here for 8 days and it was so relaxing. A decent size pool, 2.2m at one end, lots of loungers for everyone. Free WiFi all around the hotel. Rooms cleaned daily with fresh bedding and great free air-conditioning. Decent snacks and super bock on tap. Luno (waiter) very friendly and witty, joking all day. Would 100% stay here against, loved our time here. Met some lovely people here too
