West Street

West Street is located in Lianchi District, Baoding City, Hebei Province. Extending approximately 846 meters from Lianchi South Street in the east to Hengxiang South Street in the west, it forms the central axis and core historical and cultural district of Baoding's ancient city.

West Street was first built in the Song Dynasty, took shape in the Yuan Dynasty, and flourished in the Qing Dynasty. It was once the political, economic, and cultural center of Baoding Prefecture, and a vital thoroughfare connecting the city center with the west city gate. The street currently has 9 cultural experience areas, 5 cultural relics protection units, and 9 historical buildings. The architectural style reflects a blend of Chinese and Western elements from the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China period, featuring blue bricks, gray tiles, arched doors and windows, and a simple and ancient appearance. The Zhan Yue Gate archway at the street entrance is a landmark of the area, with the inscription written by Pan Linggao, a calligrapher from the late Qing Dynasty.

In 2021, Baoding City launched the West Street renovation and upgrading project, adhering to the concept of "micro-renewal and gradual progress," restoring the appearance of historical buildings while integrating modern facilities to recreate the old street's charm.

Today, West Street has become an important window into experiencing Baoding's historical heritage and urban vitality.
