You guys won't believe it! I caught the first glimpse of autumn's ginkgo leaves in Guangdong at Maozifeng — traveler post in Nanxiong

You guys won't believe it! I caught the first glimpse of autumn's ginkgo leaves in Guangdong at Maozifeng

I've been looking forward to this for so long! Finally, I took a weekend road trip with friends to Maozifeng in Nanxiong to find the first touch of autumn in Guangdong. Escaping the stifling hustle and bustle of the city, we drove into the mountains. The lush greenery along the way really lifted my spirits—it's perfect for a short family getaway🍂 📸Must-visit spots ▪Linjia Puzi: New art installations have been added to the forest. The contrast between the old houses and the new designs is really tasteful—every photo is full of atmosphere. ▪Daxiao Fangping: A dense, low-lying ginkgo forest. It's the first area in the park to turn yellow, and since it's not too crowded, it's perfect for a leisurely stroll. ▪Hexagonal Pavilion & Golden Avenue: The most popular photo spot in the scenic area. The tall ginkgo trees intertwine to form a golden tunnel, preserving the vibe of the old forest farm. There are restaurants nearby, too. 🏨Stay | Xinglin Shanju Staying at Xinglin Shanju was a wonderful surprise. The environment is elegant and tranquil, surrounded by mountains and forests—a natural oxygen bar. You can breathe in the fresh air right from your room. Waking up to the sound of birds in the forest helped me shed all my fatigue. 🍴Dining The restaurant in the scenic area uses fresh ingredients and offers authentic flavors. I got to try some very unique local dishes. We took our time exploring the entire scenic area without rushing. We chatted and laughed with family, stopping whenever we wanted, and captured so many atmospheric photos. It left us with unforgettable autumn memories. A road trip from Guangzhou/Foshan for an autumn getaway is definitely worth it! 📍: Shaoguan Maozifeng Scenic Area

8 travel destinations worth visiting in November–December — traveler post in Nanxiong

8 travel destinations worth visiting in November–December

The end of the year is approaching, and many people are starting to plan their trips. I've compiled a list of 8 places with different vibes, ranging from the distinct landscapes of the north and south. Whether you're looking for a warm southern getaway or snowy northern scenery, you can choose what suits you best. 📍 Xishuangbanna The temperature is quite comfortable in November–December, and the rainforest vegetation remains lush year-round. The golden pagoda of Manting Ancient Temple stands quietly, and the Starlight Night Market glows with lights in the evening. You can put on Dai-style clothing, stroll along the streets, and try chicken feet and pineapple rice to experience the local Dai culture. ✅ Travel & off-peak tips: It gets crowded during holidays, so try to visit off-peak. There is a temperature difference between day and night, so bring a light jacket. 📍 Changbai Mountain In early winter, the mountains and forests are covered in snow, and you can see Heaven Lake when the weather is right. The mountains are often misty, and after exploring, you can experience the volcanic hot springs and enjoy the winter forest scenery. ✅ Travel & off-peak tips: Temperatures on the mountain are low, so be prepared with a thick down jacket and non-slip shoes. There are fewer crowds on weekdays, so try to start your day early. 📍 Xingyi In winter, Wanfenglin (Forest of Ten Thousand Peaks) has many sunny days. The rolling peaks are scattered about, creating a peaceful pastoral atmosphere. You can walk along the country roads in Xiaonahui Village, watch the smoke rising from village chimneys, try a bowl of chicken meat tangyuan (glutinous rice balls), and enjoy the leisurely rural life. ✅ Travel & off-peak tips: Temperatures are lower in the morning and evening, so remember to dress warmly. The viewing platforms get crowded on weekends, so prioritize weekday travel. 📍 Nanxiong From late November to December, the ginkgo trees in Maotifeng and Pingtian Ancient Village slowly turn yellow. Sunlight filters through the branches, and the old houses in the ancient village paired with yellow leaves make for a perfect spot for walking and photography. ✅ Travel & off-peak tips: The ginkgo viewing season is short, so check the status of the leaves before you leave. Visiting on weekdays means shorter wait times for photos. 📍 Jingxi The small city has a mild climate in winter, and the karst landscape is refreshing. The water at Goose Spring is crystal clear, the old town of Jiuzhou is full of local life, and the mountains and water at Quyang Lake are connected. While strolling through the streets and alleys, you can try local suanye (pickled fruit/vegetables) to experience the local flavors. ✅ Travel & off-peak tips: There are many curves in the mountainous areas, so drive slowly if you are renting a car. The old town gets crowded on weekends, so we recommend visiting off-peak. 📍 Harbin As the ice and snow season arrives, snowflakes fall on the top of Saint Sophia Cathedral. You can buy red sausage on Central Street, and once the river freezes, you can enjoy activities on the Songhua River. While walking on the street, you can also try a Madieer popsicle to experience the local winter specialty. ✅ Travel & off-peak tips: Temperatures are low, so be sure to pack complete cold-weather gear. Central Street is crowded in the evening; if you want a quieter experience, choose the morning. 📍 Yancheng Autumn and winter are the seasons for migratory bird arrivals. The reeds in the wetlands sway in the wind, and red-crowned cranes and milu deer stop here. Walking slowly along the wetland boardwalks, you can see birds skimming across the water and enjoy the vast wilderness scenery. ✅ Travel & off-peak tips: It is windy in the wetlands, so be prepared to block the wind and stay warm. Birds are relatively more active in the early morning, making it a great time for birdwatching. 📍 Jianshui The ancient city in southern Yunnan has plenty of sunshine in winter, and the Chaoyang Tower and Shuanglong Bridge retain their ancient architectural style. The old city streets are full of life, and you can eat grilled tofu from roadside stalls or enjoy a warm bowl of caoya rice noodles. There is no need to plan a packed itinerary; just take your time and stroll around. ✅ Travel & off-peak tips: There are fewer tourists in the ancient city in the morning, which is perfect for a quiet visit. There is a significant temperature difference between day and night, so bring a jacket when you go out. 💬 End-of-post interaction For your year-end trip, would you choose the warm south or the snowy scenery of the north?

The ultimate Guangdong autumn itinerary: Shaoguan Danxiashan & ginkgo trees, 3 days for 1k per person — traveler post in Nanxiong

The ultimate Guangdong autumn itinerary: Shaoguan Danxiashan & ginkgo trees, 3 days for 1k per person

How to plan your November trip to Shaoguan? This 3-day Shaoguan itinerary connects Danxiashan, Jinjiang Gallery, and Nanxiong ginkgo trees into one route. It costs 800–1,400 yuan per person and is perfect for those wanting to see autumn colors in Guangdong! 🍁 First, the verdict: If you only have 2 days, I recommend spending them fully in Danxiashan with an overnight stay, then heading to Nanxiong on the second afternoon, and saving the ginkgo trees for the third morning. It’s the most efficient way without backtracking! The differences are detailed below 👇 🌟 Why mid-November is worth the trip After the start of winter, Shaoguan sees daytime temperatures of 23°C and 14°C in the mornings and evenings, making it a rare time in Guangdong when you need an extra layer 🧥 The air in Danxiashan is crystal clear this season, and the red sandstone cliffs look incredibly vibrant at sunrise. The ginkgo trees in Nanxiong start turning yellow in mid-November, and the old trees in Pingtian and Maozifeng can last until early December. Compared to the National Day holiday, you won't have to queue at the mountain entrance here. Compared to December, the ginkgo forests haven't reached peak crowds yet, making for a fantastic experience 💯 📍 Quick overview ✅ Suitable for: Landscape and photography enthusiasts / family trips / short trips around Guangdong ✅ Recommended duration: 3 days, 2 nights | Physical intensity: Moderate, the hike up Zhanglao Peak takes about 2 hours one way ✅ Cost per person: 800–1,400 yuan (excluding round-trip long-distance transportation) 🗺️ 3-day itinerary breakdown Day 1️⃣ Danxiashan main route Morning: Danxiashan Zhanglao Peak (all-inclusive ticket 100 yuan, opens at 7:00, valid for 2 days) → Shaoyin Terrace Afternoon: Yangyuan Stone Scenic Area → Xianglong Lake Evening: Stay at a guesthouse near the scenic area entrance; it's super convenient for waking up early to watch the sunrise the next day 🌅 Day 2️⃣ Transfer to Nanxiong Morning: Jinjiang Gallery bamboo raft (additional 100 yuan, first boat at 8:30) → Return to the city Afternoon: Take a bus to Nanxiong (shuttle bus 35 yuan or private car 200 yuan) → Zhuji Lane (40 yuan) Evening: Stay in downtown Nanxiong and try the authentic goose hot pot! Day 3️⃣ Ginkgo finale Morning: Maozifeng Forest Park (60 yuan, opens at 8:00) → Golden Avenue, the sea of gold is breathtaking 🍂 Afternoon: Pingtian Aobei Village ancient ginkgo forest (free) → Return trip in the evening 🍜 Hidden gem eats (where locals go) ① Shiweixian on Fengdu Road, Zhenjiang District: Beef offal noodles for 18 yuan per person. An old shop where locals have breakfast; the beef offal is stewed until tender and glutinous 🤤 ② Ewang Shijia on Xiongzhou Street, Nanxiong: Dried duck stir-fried with green garlic served with goose hot pot, about 70 yuan per person. A must-order for autumn and winter gatherings 🔥 ③ Apo Tangshui on Jiefang Road, Wujiang District: Sesame paste with ginger milk curd for 15 yuan per person. The ultimate late-night dessert! ⚠️ Pitfalls I encountered (hard-learned lessons) ❌ Hiking Zhanglao Peak at noon: The stone steps were scorching, and the photos looked washed out. Changed to entering the park at 7:30 AM for better clarity. ❌ Wasting the Danxiashan all-inclusive ticket in half a day! It's valid for 2 days, so it's more relaxed to spread it over two days. ❌ Went to the Jinjiang Gallery bamboo raft in the afternoon, but there were no boats after 2:00 PM. You must take the morning shift! ❌ Took the shuttle bus to Nanxiong and ended up standing the whole way because it was crowded. Leaving early is safer ✓ ❌ Arrived at Maozifeng at 10:00 AM on a weekend and the traffic jam on Golden Avenue made me question my life choices. Parking is easier before 8:00 AM. ❌ The ginkgo yellowing period depends on the year. You must check the forecast before you leave! One year I followed a guide's timing and the leaves had already fallen 😭 💰 Cost breakdown (per person) Tickets: 300 yuan (Danxiashan 100 + Jinjiang Gallery 100 + Zhuji Lane 40 + Maozifeng 60) Shaoguan to Nanxiong private car: 200–260 yuan/day Accommodation: 160–380 yuan/night Dining: 35–90 yuan/meal 3-day total: 800–1,400 yuan 💡 Practical tips Transportation: Taxi from Shaoguan Station to the city is about 20 yuan; shuttle bus to Nanxiong is about 35 yuan/person. Accommodation: Stay near the scenic area entrance for Danxiashan, and in downtown Nanxiong for the ginkgo trees. Don't wait until night to transfer. Clothing: Mid-November is 23°C during the day and 14°C in the morning/evening. Bring a light jacket + breathable long sleeves + non-slip hiking shoes. Photography: The sunrise at Shaoyin Terrace is great for backlit shots; the side lighting on Golden Avenue before 9:00 AM is perfect for portraits 📸 🙋 If you only had two days, would you prioritize the sunrise at Danxiashan or the ginkgo trees in Nanxiong? Let's chat in the comments~

Nanshe Ancient Village in Dongguan: An 800-year-old living scroll of Lingnan culture — traveler post in Nanxiong

Nanshe Ancient Village in Dongguan: An 800-year-old living scroll of Lingnan culture

Hidden in Chashan Town, Dongguan, lies Nanshe, an ancient Lingnan village that has spanned 800 years of history. In the late Southern Song Dynasty, Xie Shangren, the ancestor of the Xie clan, migrated south via Zhuji Lane to settle here. Over the past 800 years, the Xie clan has flourished for 29 generations, with 95% of the villagers sharing the surname Xie. The village still preserves 110,000 square meters of ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, making it one of the largest and best-preserved architectural complexes of that era in the Pearl River Delta. Entering the ancient village, you will see a long pond running through its center, with houses built along its banks, arranged according to the mountain terrain. Green bricks and red tiles, carved stone doorways, and bean-green polished brick walls glow with a warm luster in the sunlight. The "wok-ear" gables rise high like wings, serving both as fire protection and a symbol of prestige. Red sandstone pillars and granite steps reveal the exquisite charm of Cantonese architecture at every turn. The 500-year-old banyan tree at the village entrance, with its lush foliage, quietly guards the village from dawn till dusk. The most striking feature of the village is the Xie Ancestral Hall. Built in 1555 (the 34th year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty), it features a rare hip-and-gable roof and a three-bay, three-courtyard layout, with exquisite wood carvings between the beams and intricate gray sculptures on the roof ridges. Additionally, the Centenarian Archway was built to commemorate a centenarian couple, cleverly integrating the archway and ancestral hall. The Xie Yuqi Family Temple records the military exploits of a martial jinshi who followed Zuo Zongtang to pacify Xinjiang. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Nanshe produced over a dozen jinshi and juren, earning it the reputation of a famous "Jinshi Village" in Guangdong. What makes Nanshe most moving is that it is a living ancient village. During festivals, the ancient ritual of "Grandpa distributing pork" is performed in front of the ancestral hall. Every year, during the Filial Piety Culture Festival, the "Banquet for a Thousand Elders" features a hundred tables set up by the pond, where over a thousand elders gather. In daily life, the melodious sounds of Cantonese opera and the leaps of lion dances fill the air, while intangible cultural heritage crafts like Chashan silk lanterns and the Nanshe Nine-Bowl Feast are within reach. On the bluestone paths, people in Hanfu flutter by, and the scent of tea drifts from ancient houses. Here, history is not a specimen in a display case, but the vibrant, living essence of everyday life. Every brick and tile tells a story. Every alley and pond is filled with nostalgia. Nanshe Ancient Village is sharing its 800-year-old Lingnan history with the world in the most vivid way possible.

Don't crowd popular spots this National Day: This Nanxiong route is a must-save — traveler post in Nanxiong

Don't crowd popular spots this National Day: This Nanxiong route is a must-save

If you want to avoid the National Day crowds, I went to Nanxiong, Shaoguan, and completed the Retracing the Long March route. Four stops: Shangshuo Village > Jiezhi Zhaowu Village > Xintian Village > Meiguan Ancient Trail. Driving is recommended as the villages are spread out, and 2 days is just the right amount of time. First, let's talk about the houses here; they're different from the rest of Guangdong. Since Nanxiong borders Jiangxi, the old houses feature the blue-brick and grey-tile style typical of the Gan region. The most interesting feature is the horse-face wall—gable walls built significantly higher than the roof, standing in a row. These walls aren't just for aesthetics; they're primarily for fire prevention, ensuring that if one house catches fire, it won't spread to the neighbors. You'll also find rammed-earth houses in the villages, with distinct wooden plank imprints on the walls—a testament to traditional craftsmanship. Next, the ancestral halls. Almost every village here has one, and they are invariably the most impressive buildings in town: with oversized door god paintings and high-hanging plaques, they serve as the hub for all major village events. Xintian Village is particularly remarkable—everyone in the village shares the surname Li. Established in 315 AD, it's known as the First Hakka Village in Northern Guangdong and has a history spanning 1,700 years. The village is also home to 4 thousand-year-old banyan trees, and the stone windows alone feature over 50 different patterns. Now for the real significance of this route. Shangshuo Village has a Red Army Well, which the Red First Army helped the villagers clean when they passed through in 1934; it's still in use today. The Song of the Red Army is inscribed on the wall of the Xu Ancestral Hall. The villagers have protected it for over 90 years and still sing it today—the guide mentioned that students sing it every day! The Xuemei Ancestral Hall and the Dong Family Ancestral Hall on Jiezhi Yang Street were both campsites back then. Villagers helped the Red Army gather food, and the Red Army helped the villagers carry water and sweep the floors, leaving slogans on the walls. Tianhaoling, located outside Xintian Village, was the site of the first battle the Red Army fought upon entering Guangdong during the Long March on October 26, 1934. Finally, head up the Meiguan Ancient Trail. The stone steps lead all the way up, marking the path that connects Guangdong and Jiangxi. If you visit in winter, you might catch the plum blossoms. I came a bit early this time, so the blossoms hadn't bloomed yet, which was a pity, but listening to the guide's explanation of the trail was incredibly insightful. The 2-day trip wasn't rushed, there were few crowds, and the stories were all there to be experienced firsthand. If you're worried about crowds this National Day, choosing a niche route is a great idea—it's easy to explore, great for walking, and perfect for photos! And the most important thing, I'll say it 3 times: Nanxiong's Goose King is delicious! Nanxiong's Goose King is delicious! Nanxiong's Goose King is delicious! 📍Shaoguan Nanxiong Route: Shangshuo Village > Jiezhi Zhaowu Village > Xintian Village > Meiguan Ancient Trail 🚗 Driving recommended

This 800-year-old village in Hunan left me speechless after seeing the wood carvings

Hunan’s 800-year-old village! "Seven stars accompany the moon" layout + nationally protected ancestral halls, free to visit If I hadn’t stood on the small hill at the village entrance and looked down, I might never have understood what "seven stars accompany the moon" means. Jinshan ancient village in Rucheng, just 7 km from the county seat, made me doubt the navigation—it’s really that close? But the moment I turned in, the centuries-old bluestone paths, horse-head walls, and carved gate towers all came into view at once, and I realized: this place is the real deal. The village has been around for more than 820 years and still perfectly preserves six Ming and Qing ancestral halls, including the Ye family’s Dunben Hall and the Lu family’s Xulun Hall. Dunben Hall and Xulun Hall are nationally protected cultural relics. There are also 95 Ming and Qing ancient residences. Villages of this scale in southern Hunan are rare, and the best part is—no entrance fee, and the main ancestral halls are free to enter. Why it’s called a living folk residence museum The layout of Jinshan ancient village is deliberate. At the center of the village is a crescent-shaped pond, surrounded by seven ancient ancestral halls arranged like the Big Dipper constellation, hence the name "seven stars accompany the moon." This pattern is clearest when viewed from the small hill at the village entrance, and even more impressive from aerial shots, but I prefer to see it with my own eyes—after all, this feng shui layout took the ancients hundreds of years to perfect. Upon entering the village, head straight to the Lu family’s Xulun Hall. The four characters "Famous family of southern Chu" on the lintel are said to come from a poem by Tang Emperor Zhaozong. This building, originally constructed in the 33rd year of the Wanli reign (1606), features an extraordinary three-layer openwork carving of twin dragons playing with a pearl on the main gate beam. The dragon scales, eyes, and water patterns were all hand-carved with a single knife, and the paintwork remains vivid after more than 400 years. I stood there staring for nearly 10 minutes. The elderly guardian nearby smiled and said, "Young man, you’re amazed, aren’t you?" The Ye family’s Dunben Hall was built during the Hongzhi period of the Ming dynasty (1488), more than a hundred years earlier than the Lu family’s hall. The main gate is one of the "three and a half main gates" in Rucheng folklore. The bluestone threshold has been polished smooth by generations of villagers sitting on it. The camphor wood relief couplets on either side of the courtyard entrance are faded, but the couplet "The land divides southeast with green oranges and yellow pomelos, daring to think differently but never forgetting the true origin. The sky shares the deep lakes and vast seas of Chu and Yue, all tracing back to the same great source" clearly tells the story of the Ye family’s migration from Nanxiong, Guangdong. Besides the two nationally protected ancestral halls, the Li family’s Longxi Hall, Dade Hall, Xianzheng Hall, and Biejia Residence each have their own highlights. The "Wenwu family" plaque on the Biejia Residence gate and the pairs of flagpole stones from the Qianlong era in front of Dade Hall are authentic historical artifacts. Fans of ancient architecture should allow plenty of time to explore. Best times to visit for photos I’ve been twice, once in July and once in November. The different seasons offer completely different vibes. June–August lotus season: Outside the village, thousands of acres of lotus ponds are in full bloom. The pink and white lotus flowers against the blue bricks and black tiles of the ancestral halls make for stunning photos even without filters, especially if you wear light-colored Hanfu and stand by the pond. The lotus boardwalk winds into the fields, where you can pick lotus pods and taste fresh lotus seeds, sweet and refreshing. The light is softest around 4 or 5 PM, and the sunset on the horse-head walls is perfect for photos. November–December ginkgo season: The ancient ginkgo trees at the village entrance and around the ancestral halls turn yellow, and fallen leaves cover the bluestone paths, crunching underfoot. There are fewer visitors at this time, making it ideal for leisurely strolls through the alleys and listening to the wind through the courtyards. To avoid crowds, visit before 9 AM or after 4 PM on weekdays. The slanting sunlight in the ancestral hall courtyards creates especially rich light and shadow effects. Practical information (tested and reliable) · Address: Jinshan Village, Tuqiao Town, Rucheng County, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province · Tickets: No entrance fee for the village. Dunben Hall, Xulun Hall, and other main ancestral halls are free to visit · Opening hours: The ancient village is open all day. Ancestral halls are generally open 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, subject to onsite notices · Transportation: · Self-drive: Navigate to "Rucheng Jinshan Village." About 7 km from Rucheng county seat, roughly 15 minutes by car · Bus: Take a shuttle or taxi from Rucheng county seat to Tuqiao Town Jinshan Village · Private car: Attractions in Rucheng are spread out, so private car tours are more convenient · Suggested visit duration: Allow at least 3 hours to thoroughly explore the ancestral halls, lotus ponds, and ancient alleys · Must-try food: The village has farmhouse restaurants. Recommended dishes include Rucheng stuffed tofu, stir-fried dried bamboo shoots with cured meat, and lotus leaf meatballs. In the county seat, try Tuqiao rice noodles and bean paste buns · Accommodation: The village has nearly 10 leisure farms and guesthouses, including Yulianxuan and Duxiu Homestay. You can also stay in Rucheng county seat for more options A few honest reminders First, don’t touch the wood carvings in the ancestral halls. The openwork is as thin as paper and fragile. Second, bring mosquito repellent during lotus season in summer—I got bitten badly last time because I forgot. Third, some old houses are still inhabited by villagers. Please ask politely before taking photos. Most elders are friendly and happy to share family stories. Jinshan ancient village isn’t an over-commercialized internet-famous town. There are no wholesale creative shops from Yiwu or loud hawkers. What you hear is the wind over the lotus ponds, the sound of elders picking vegetables in the ancestral hall courtyards, and the village as it has been for 800 years. If you happen to be visiting Dongjiang Lake or Gaoyiling in Chenzhou, consider spending half a day in Rucheng. There are no overwhelming crowds here, just an ancient village patiently waiting for you to explore slowly.

Maozifeng Tourist Scenic Area

There aren't many people early in the morning, and it's foggy. It gets busier once the fog clears. It's a great choice for families to visit, relax, or camp. You can drive or take public transport; there are many options. It's a seasonal attraction, so choose your time carefully.

Meiguan Ancient Post Road

Looking for a less-traveled destination with historical significance and hiking opportunities this weekend? The Meiguan Ancient Road in Dayu, Jiangxi is highly recommended! This ancient post road has been around for a thousand years, and after completing the hike, you can enjoy panoramic views of the county town from the mountaintop.

Zhuji Ancient Lane

With relatively low foot traffic, newly built internal alleyways, and significant business loss, the interior environment is quite quiet and refreshing when there are few people; it can be considered a park with a lake. A complete walk around it takes less than an hour.

Pingtian Ginkgo Hometown

The natural scenery, ancient ginkgo trees, simple folk customs, the scenic area is relatively scattered, but very natural, without too much human intervention, I still like it, it's a good travel experience, staying in a Leyi Inn on the top of the mountain military camp to watch the sunrise ginkgo super convenient, the environment is good, but it's a pity that the holiday is too short, I can only come again next time! Chimelong Safari Park

For families with children, it's definitely worth a visit! Visiting the entire park in one day would be very rushed and tiring, leaving your knees sore. For a better experience, I recommend two days and one night. The park has a wide variety of animals, and the cable car and miniature train are quite unique; children had a great time. The staff are very friendly, patiently answering questions and engaging in friendly interactions. If I had to complain, firstly, the food prices inside the park are relatively high (although the Chinese food was okay); secondly, the smell was too pungent when the miniature train passed the bird area (I wonder how this can be improved); and thirdly, the prices in the interactive areas are also quite expensive (for example, feeding the giraffes costs 36 yuan for a single branch!!!). Overall, I highly recommend it for families with children!

Guangzhou Chimelong Tourist Resort

I think 300 yuan per person is great value for money. It includes a free cable car ride for a panoramic view of the entire park, and a free mini-train ride for a close-up look at the animals on the African savanna – you get to see everything from different angles. We also spent 300 yuan to drive through the park and get a more intimate look at the animals – a very immersive experience. It wasn't the weekend, so it wasn't too crowded. The park staff were very responsible in their explanations. We also ordered a three-person set meal inside the park, which was a bit pricey, but reasonable for the park's price.

Canton Tower

My tip for Canton Tower is to head straight up to the Bubble Tram as soon as you get inside. We waited about an hour to get on, so I’d get that queue out of the way first. Then you can take your time exploring the levels below without thinking about how long the line might be. The level just below the tram is beautiful too, so definitely stop there on your way down.My wife and I really enjoyed the ride. From that high up, you can see Guangzhou in every direction. The bubble moves slowly enough that you have time to take photos of one side of the city, put your phone down and enjoy the view, then see a different part of the skyline as you come around. Even though we shared the bubble with other people, it still felt romantic seeing the city like that together. I’d recommend it for couples, but it would be a fun thing to do with friends or family too. For us, the view was worth the wait!

Danxiashan UNESCO Global Geopark

The namesake of Danxia landforms, a World Natural Heritage site, boasts stunning red rock peaks and forests perfect for photos. Sunrise and sunset are the highlights, with the sunset at Ximeizhai and sunrise at Elder Peak offering breathtaking atmosphere. However, the area has many steps and significant elevation changes, making it a challenging hiking destination.
