Turns out it's an Ibis. The room was clean.
The main draw is the location. It's in the northern suburbs, but bus route 21 stops right outside and takes you to the old town in 17 minutes. From the train station, you can take bus 23, and it's a 6-minute walk from the stop. Overall, the public transport is good, and if you time it right, it's very efficient.
Right turn out of the train station, it's incredibly close – perfect for travelers catching a train. There's a McDonald's and Burger King, and a Spar supermarket inside the station, so amenities are complete.
The train station is also a major hub, with the 150 bus going to the Lake District, making transport very convenient.
There's a free spa, but I might not necessarily want to use it.
The Austrian gentleman at the front desk was very kind and offered a telephone wake-up service, which is great for those needing to catch an early train.
The room isn't as stylish as the exterior, but it's perfectly adequate and came with a large bottle of water.
You need to pay the city tax separately at the front desk, which is 3.55 euros per person per night and can be paid by card.
A tourist bus card will be automatically sent to your email.
The location was fantastic! It's just a 15-minute bus ride from the city center, and public transport is super convenient. Right next to the hotel, there's a restaurant, a supermarket, and even a gym. The hotel room itself was very clean and tidy, and the staff were incredibly friendly. There seems to be a police station downstairs, with officers frequently changing shifts, which made me feel very safe.
We came thinking the resto and bar would be open, but found out we were there out of season. We booked on Trip.com which didn't have the details on the closure for low season, so check the website for details depending on the time of year. Otherwise the place was nice, parking was easy, and the view from the hotel was great. It's about a 7 minute drive up from the town.
had a really pleasant stay at this hotel and would definitely recommend it. From the moment I arrived, the staff were welcoming, professional, and always willing to help with any questions or requests.
The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with everything I needed for a relaxing stay. I especially appreciated the attention to detail and the overall atmosphere, which made it easy to unwind after a long day.
The location was also very convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions, restaurants, and transport options. Breakfast was fresh and offered a good variety, which was a great way to start the day.
Overall, a very positive experience. I would happily stay here again on my next visit.
Overall, my stay at this hotel was quite disappointing, with only a few positive aspects worth mentioning.
The main advantage of this hotel is its convenient location, as it is situated near a train station, making it easy to get around. I also appreciated the daily housekeeping service and the regular refill of the minibar, which was a nice touch.
However, there were several issues that affected the overall experience. The reception staff (lady) were not welcoming and did not greet guests with a smile, which gave a poor first impression. More concerning was the lack of proper support when we encountered a problem with the room heating. Despite multiple attempts to adjust it ourselves, it did not work. When we reported this to the reception (lady), the staff’s response was unhelpful and came across as dismissive, as if we did not know how to use the system. Although another staff member (guy) mentioned they would check on it, the issue was never resolved. As a result, we had to endure two very cold nights.
Additionally, the bathroom design was impractical. The shower had no door, causing water to splash all over the bathroom floor. On top of that, housekeeping did not consistently replace bath towels, which was inconvenient.
In summary, while the location and some housekeeping aspects were good, the service quality and room facilities need significant improvement.
The room size is medium, and the single bed isn't very big, but the bathroom is quite spacious with a bathtub and a separate shower/toilet area. The bed and pillows are comfortable, and the soundproofing is excellent, making it very quiet. There's an elevator and windows that can be opened. They provide complimentary apples, drinking water, sparkling water, and a kettle. It's very close to the train and bus stations, and there are three supermarkets nearby.
This is not a fully-fledged hotel, but more like an apartment. The location in the city is not cozy, but it is close to the station and bus stops, and the old town can be reached by foot in half an hour. The establishment does not serve breakfast, but the apartments are comfortable and spacious, I got a room with windows to the courtyard, so it was quiet. There is a kettle in the room, but the previous guest made noodle soup in it, and the housekeeper did not notice. Of course, this is largely not the responsibility of the establishment, just some travelers are pigs. The staff was helpful, allowing me to check in much earlier than stated in the conditions, thank you for that:)
A lovely stay at Hotel zum Hirschen Salzburg.
The hotel has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere that perfectly matches the charm of Salzburg.
It is within walking distance from the city’s main train station, although not directly in front of it, which makes the location both convenient and quiet.
The room was spacious enough for our family of three, including our 3-year-old son, and felt very comfortable. Breakfast was enjoyable and well prepared.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, always ready to assist and offering great advice, including information about the Guest Mobility Ticket for using public transportation around the city.
Overall, a warm and pleasant hotel that made our stay in Salzburg truly enjoyable.

JJesschanscThe hotel is great but a bit far from central. The staffs are very friendly n courteous. They always wish u with a warm smile. One of the receptionist Ms Inna is very very helpful n kind. My hubby left his hp in a Uber n she help us to contact the uber , act as translator for us all the way n got our hp back. I would say their service is excellent n superb. I would definately come back again ..one more thing, the bathroom is very open, not very suitable if staying with kids.
CCathyyC.I love this hotel a lot. it’s a small family owned one but very neat and tidy, breakfast tastes so good and the staff are all very nice. it’s around just 5 minutes walk to central train station which makes it so much easier for us after long whole day trips. It definitely worth staying!
GGuest UserThe room is a bit packed as the bed is super big. Having said that, the room is nicely designed and decorated. Free mini-bar with daily refill is rarely found in hotels in Europe.
The buffet breakfast is absolutely the highlight. The omelette is crispy outside and molten inside, preserving the freshness and original flavours of all ingredients. Must try!
All hotel staffs are polite and helpful.
In terms of location, whether or not it is convenience, it depends. It is in the middle of Salzburg central station and the old town, going to either location is about 12 minutes walk. Salzburg down town is not big anyway. Everything is in walking distance.

一一人丸菱商事The hotel is conveniently located close to the train station, making it easy to reach on foot from Salzburg Central Station, even with a lot of luggage. The rooms offer minimal amenities, as it's a sustainable hotel.
Just like in Germany, there's no mini-fridge in the room, which was inconvenient when I wanted a cold drink. My only options were to buy one at the hotel bar or at a supermarket near the station.
I highly recommend waking up early and taking a walk around the hotel. The streets are beautiful.
TTravelshortsI am stayed at Hotel Mercure Salzburg City for two nights during my time in Salzburg, and it turned out to be an excellent base for exploring the city. What made the stay even better was being upgraded for free to a premium room, which included a complimentary mini bar — a very welcome perk after a day of sightseeing.
The premium room was spacious, clean and modern, with a comfortable bed, good lighting and plenty of storage space. The free mini bar was a nice extra touch, allowing me to relax in the evening without needing to head back out for drinks. The hotel felt quiet and well-run, which made it easy to rest, even though it’s located in a busy and well-connected part of the city.
Location is one of the hotel’s strongest points. It is less than a 10-minute walk from Salzburg’s main train station, which is ideal if you’re arriving by rail or planning day trips to places like Hallstatt or Vienna. It’s also around a 15-minute walk to the centre of the Old Town, meaning you can reach Salzburg’s most famous sights — such as the Cathedral, Mozart’s birthplace and the Hohensalzburg Fortress — without needing public transport.
Airport access is also extremely straightforward. Bus number 2 from Salzburg Airport stops just a minute’s walk from the hotel, making transfers simple, quick and inexpensive. This is particularly helpful if you have luggage or an early flight.
I would recommend Hotel Mercure Salzburg City to anyone looking for a comfortable, well-located hotel that balances convenience with good value. It’s not overly luxurious, but it offers everything you need for a smooth and enjoyable stay in Salzburg, making it a smart choice for both short city breaks and longer trips.

GGuest UserThe room itself was very spacious and generally comfortable, so in terms of physical space and basic facilities, the experience was acceptable. However, several service-related details significantly affected my overall impression.
First, this was the first hotel I stayed at in Europe that does not offer complimentary luggage storage, which was very inconvenient, especially for travelers arriving early or leaving later in the day.
More importantly, there was a serious issue regarding privacy and housekeeping procedures. In most hotels, rooms are cleaned only when guests place a “please clean” sign on the door or explicitly request housekeeping. In this hotel, staff went door to door knocking, and when there was no response, they entered the room directly. This felt intrusive and disrespectful of guest privacy, and it was quite uncomfortable. It also seems inefficient and unnecessary for the staff themselves.
While the room size and general comfort were fine, these service and management details were disappointing and do not meet the expectations of a hotel at this level. With better respect for guest privacy and clearer housekeeping protocols, the experience could be greatly improved.
JJoelzzzThe hotel location was just a short 14 mins walk away from the train station. Salzburg is really small so the location of the hotel was convenient. There was a Eurospar express right beside the hotel opened till 10pm, great place to get groceries or snacks if needed.
Hotel staff was friendly. I felt that since the flooring was carpet, it might give like a ‘old’ vibes to some. Room was spacious but I would think it’s gives me more of a 3.5 star hotel. Never tried sauna though, so can’t commend on that!
