5-Star Hotels in Hainan, China

Before the trip, I saw quite a few negative reviews about this hotel—complaints about damp, musty rooms, lots of mosquitoes, and cold, slow front desk service. To be honest, I was pretty nervous and was mentally prepared to just make do for one night. But our stay turned out to be a complete reversal, all thanks to the fantastic service from Song Yifan! During check-in, he proactively asked about our preferences. Upon hearing our concerns about humidity and mosquitoes, he immediately arranged a room on a higher floor for us, patiently gave us tips on dehumidifying and airing out the room, and thoroughly introduced the hotel's amenities, breakfast hours, and hot spring opening times. Other staff members also greeted us with warm smiles whenever we ran into them. I'd also like to recommend the hotel's Chinese restaurant—the food overall was great, and the chef at the evening BBQ was especially warm and hospitable, leaving a wonderful impression. In all fairness, the lakeside setting is lovely and relaxing. Both the lake views and the garden hot springs offer a true vacation vibe. While the facilities aren't brand new, they are clean and well-kept. Great service is truly the soul of a resort hotel. This stay far exceeded our expectations, and I'm writing this specifically to give a shout-out to Song Yifan. For anyone who is on the fence: having such reliable staff really makes all the difference in your stay.

This type of resort is not my usual place however I felt, as part of my tour of China, that I needed somewhere to relax for a few days. This resort did not disappoint! Despite initial issues checking in, I was upgraded to the Peacock then driven up and over the hill in a golf buggy. It did surprise me how sprawled out the resort is and it was a good 20 minutes to get there. It’s too far to walk and probably not a good idea in the dark! On arrival, one of the porters helped carry my bags down to the most amazing little villla in the jungle! The room was really just perfect. After being given mosquito spray at reception I realised quite quickly that it was needed! Th balcony was lively to just sit out and chill looking at the amazing view As a vegetarian I do find it hard to eat in China and the language barrier was difficult however I went to the restaurant and was helped to order by the manager. The chef sent me a fruit plate - i think partly because he was worried about me eating enough! Breakfast was really lovely! Despite it being a resort, there was very little human noise and it was nice to sit in the balcony listening to the noise of nature. The WeChat messenger was great to communicate and the staff were really helpful when I had a severe reaction to mosquito bites. You do need to call for a buggy any time you want to move around the resort however they are very quick to arrive. The resort itself was amazing to explore. If you have any mobility issues, it may be an issue because my villa was quite far down a lot of steps. If I return to Hainan Island in future, I would love to stay here again - such a special location

Overall, we were extremely satisfied with the hotel and would definitely recommend it. Let's start with the pros: As soon as we arrived by taxi, the doormen were very enthusiastic and proactively helped us with our luggage. The villa area has a separate lobby for check-in, which was simple, fast, and hassle-free. We arrived at 3 PM and our room was already cleaned and ready, which was fantastic. Our butler, Lucy, was incredibly responsive, warm, and amazing. One area for improvement is the breakfast selection, which wasn't very diverse. Everything else was great, though 🤣. We will definitely be back!

This stay with my child exceeded my expectations. Ella's service was incredibly warm and friendly, and we were so lucky to get a room upgrade, which was a wonderful surprise! The hotel offers a fantastic array of children's activities, with bubble parties and craft sessions scheduled non-stop, keeping my child entertained and happy all day long. The restaurant has a wide selection of dishes, and the breakfast was fresh, abundant, and delicious. The room was clean and comfortable, and the overall service was thoughtful and attentive, allowing parents to relax while their kids play. It's truly perfect for a family vacation. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Sanya. I wholeheartedly recommend it to families with children.

We chose this place as our first stop in Sanya, and it was a wonderful and satisfying experience. We received a complimentary afternoon tea upon check-in, which instantly made us, feeling a bit dazed from our arrival, feel right at home. The pool is huge and quite lively with many guests, especially families with kids. The children went swimming twice a day. The service was attentive, and our butler added us on WeChat beforehand to guide us. The beach is right at the doorstep, with breathtaking sunsets in plain sight. We moved to Yalong Bay on the second day, but we still preferred the peacefulness of Sanya Bay.

My InterContinental Resort stay was fantastic this time. First, a big thanks to our butler, Bonnie Tan, for upgrading us to a Deluxe Seaview room. We could see the ocean and the sunrise, although it was a pity that heavy rain the first two days made the nearshore waters murky. As of now, after two days, the yellowish area has reduced by about a third; I estimate it will take a week to fully clear up. Yesterday, the sunrise was partly obscured by clouds, but it was still beautiful. The room layout was excellent, very spacious with a wide open plan. The bathroom had two sinks and a vanity, and the shower faced the sea, perfect for watching the sunrise in the morning. The bathtub was on the balcony; if I had stayed another day, I definitely would have enjoyed it. The Tianfu Chinese restaurant was delicious. They had a great value couple's set menu. The Crispy Pork Sandwich was perfect for those with a taste from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai. The grouper felt like it weighed a pound, and the chicken fat rice was so good I posted about it on both Dianping and Xiaohongshu. Other à la carte dishes were a bit pricey, probably 300-400 RMB per person. The tennis court was affordable at 180 RMB an hour, including rackets. They were all Wilson rackets; I couldn't identify the model but definitely not the Clash series. There were two with thin grips and two with thicker ones. Like the court itself, they were quite old. The pink thin-grip one I used felt like the strings were a bit loose, not as tight as the blue thin-grip one. The staff also set up a table and chairs, providing towels and water, which was a nice touch. The hotel lobby had a very high ceiling, grand decor, and an expansive space that was truly refreshing, much better than the feeling I got at the Yalong Bay Marriott. All the staff were friendly and greeted guests, and service was very responsive, including the front desk, lobby, Tianfu Bay restaurant, family pool, tennis court, and even the maintenance staff on the beach 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The hotel's room facilities are a bit dated, and the toilet is not a smart one. However, the hotel environment is very elegant with a strong tropical southern vibe—you could say the hotel itself is a scenic attraction. The service is also attentive; upon arrival, we added the hotel butler, Coral, on WeChat, and the proactive service was excellent. You can also dial 0 from the room phone, and customer service will gladly help resolve any requests or issues. The hotel is very popular and bustling, with many foreign guests (mostly from Eastern Europe and Russia, it seems). Especially at breakfast, there are so many foreigners in the restaurant that it feels like you've traveled abroad. I will probably stay at the Yalong Bay Mangrove Tree Resort again next time I visit.

As a Hilton loyalist of over a decade, I've completely fallen in love with this property ❤️ 📖 First, the bottom line: I stayed at the Yalong Bay Hilton 15 years ago, but it was easily beaten by this trip to The Renhe (Hilton Sanya Haitang Bay Resort) 🥹. If you're coming mainly for ocean views and beaches, I wouldn't recommend Haitang Bay. The evening scenery and activities are pretty average, not as lively as Yalong Bay. There are some bugs on the beach and in the rooms, so you need to be mindful of that ‼️ Food options are somewhat limited, not as diverse as what you'll find in Yalong Bay. Yalong Bay also has those coconut ice creams I've been dreaming about; 💁♀️ The service is wonderfully comfortable. If your priority is a comfortable stay, you can book The Renhe without hesitation. The kids' activities are exceptionally rich—from customized children's room keys to the variety at the kids' club, it's unmatched by other hotels, and my child had an absolute blast. The water temperature at the 15th-floor infinity pool is very warm, and with some kid's floaties, the little one had a whale of a time. The children's water park is a bit small; there's a giant tipping bucket that dumps water, which hurts if it hits you on the head, so it's not very friendly for toddlers. The regular pools on the ground level are just okay; if you want to experience an adult pool 🏊, the 15th-floor one is a great alternative; 🏠 Hotel Location: Haitang Bay, very close to the Duty-Free Shop and Atlantis, and about a 40–50 minute drive from the airport. Room Booked: Ocean View Family Suite (2-Bedroom) with a partial ocean view. During the off-season, using points plus cash brought the total to under 4k. We arrived early and were checked in by 2 PM, which saved us just as the little one was getting sleepy, and we got a late checkout until 1 PM. The cartoon ice pops bought at the lobby were also delicious. Bottled water provided was Baisuishan, and they were very generous—when we asked for water, they just sent up a whole box; 🍃 Inside the Room: Two bedrooms with three large balconies. Sanya usually has very gentle breezes on the roads in October, but this October the weather was a bit too hot, so we didn't get to fully enjoy a comfortable sea breeze on the balcony, and the night view was just so-so. However, it essentially served as a small outdoor play area for the kids; 🍉 A welcome fruit platter and welcome toiletries set were provided upon check-in, and the minibar was complimentary for the first round. Our butler, Lingxiao, was extremely attentive; communicating and interacting with him was thoughtful and very comfortable, and we could reach out anytime if we had questions 👍 The hotel provides both thin and thick bathrobes, which is very convenient, and you can request extra amenities from the front desk as needed. Executive Lounge: 🥤 Afternoon tea is decent; the pastries and juices are a lifesaver against the scorching summer heat. We had hot dinner there twice. If you aren't too picky about food, it completely gets the job done. One of the nights they served roast chicken, which I thought was exceptionally delicious, and the lounge service was also very warm ❤️🔥 The breakfast venue is huge. Every meal featured watermelon juice, which the kids love, along with barista-made coffee. Their freshly ground coffee actually tasted great, with a rich layer of crema on the Americano. I highly recommend the Hainan noodles for breakfast—I had them three meals in a row, delicious every single time. The bread selection is also extensive, and there's a candy station that is a huge hit with the kids; 🍚 Caifeng Lou Chinese Restaurant: We ordered a-la-carte roast duck, sweet and sour pork (the 3-year-old ate a whole plate), and a side of greens. The food tasted fine—totally fine for a convenient meal when you're too tired to go out. Food delivery pickups are located outside on the first floor near the stern area, and they give you an intro guide upon check-in, which is much more convenient than having to ask around like at other hotels. 🍃 Next year, I'm definitely coming back to try the rooms with water slides 🛝. If you're traveling with kids, this hotel is absolute priority #1 ❤️

We had a truly wonderful stay! The hotel is very easy to locate, directly accessible by taxi from a short distance away, and surrounded by great dining options. Dadonghai is packed with eateries and a lively night market. The receptionist was exceptionally warm and welcoming, thoughtfully offering us complimentary bottled water. The room was spotlessly clean, and the mattress offered just the right balance of support and softness, ensuring a sound and peaceful sleep through the night with great soundproofing—we weren't disturbed at all. Overall, it offers fantastic value for money and is perfect for both family trips and getaways with friends. Ordering food delivery is very convenient, as items are brought up by delivery robots. The hotel also features clean amenities including a laundry room, gym, and swimming pool. The fish spa was super relaxing for the feet! There is a complimentary shuttle service to the Dadonghai beach, taking just a few minutes to get there, which is extremely convenient. The hotel also serves a dinner buffet; if you don't feel like ordering delivery, you can dine right at the hotel—it's delicious, reasonably priced, and offers great value. Highly recommended to everyone!

Great for families! Kids can queue up to ride the little train for free as many times as they want. Our butler, Potato, was extremely meticulous and made wonderful arrangements. The public areas are quite spacious, and it's very convenient to get to the beach. You can also walk over to explore the public areas of the neighboring Marriott. The cute pet farm is lovely too. Kids' toiletries and a baby playpen are all provided, which is fantastic. We'll definitely come back next time. A special thanks to our butler, Potato, for packing us breakfast since we had an early flight and would miss breakfast time.
