Just returned from our second stay here with mixed feelings regarding this stay.we first stayed in February 2024 for 5 days and loved it,we had booked premium studio room then direct with melia.this time we booked package with jet2 which was a innside front room.i had emailed ahead to ask if we could upgrade using my melia points ,so on arrival we were able to upgrade to a premium front facing room.room had twin beds ,walk in shower and large balcony.room had a fridge with 2x bottles of beer ,water and orange.also a coffee pod machine.on arrival we had requested an iron as I normally bring a travel iron but knew that we could have one at hotel instead.after an hour waiting in our room we called down to reception to ask again as we wanted to go out.after nearly another hour we gave up and went down to reception again to be told yes we can bring one up ,no iron appeared so we just went out as we were.on returning that evening we asked again and was told one would be delivered first thing in the morning, when it didn't arrive again I logged onto melia app and requested iron, approx 20 mins later if arrived ,unfortunately the bottom of the iron was all burnt blk and everytime you tried to use it blk bits came off onto clothes so we just gave up.one of our towels in our room had a large hole in it ,not great to give to your guests.the next day towels were changed and another had 2 holes in it,are you really giving your guests towels like this to use,I certainly wouldn't give any guest staying in my home towels with holes in.! Also if you don't have your room cleaned you won't get your drinks and coffee pods replenished. We were on half board as that was the option available with jet2.breakfast was generally good,we only ate 1 evening meal as we like to go out at night.we had toasties and chips during the day and we had sat in the bar area inside but was told we had to move as it was classed as the restaurant part and we couldn't sit there if we weren't eating from the restaurant menu, bit shocked really as we were paying guests who were staying at the hotel.on our previous stay we we able to watch all uk channels on our t.v.this time however we could only get BBC1 Northern Ireland or BBC 2.we don't go away to watch t.v but we do like to listen to the news in the morning and watch in the evenings.most of the staff are lovely ,the pool bar staff are great and the young lady in the restaurant in the mornings taking your room number she was bubbly and lovely.the location of this hotel is great ,beach front and midway between new town and old town,it's quite an expensive hotel which given the facilities you are paying for location. We were disappointed that our experience this time didn't match our first experience, we always try to stay in Melia hotels as we feel you get good service and value for your money, unfortunately this stay didn't really deliver.
