Hotels Near Fontäne in Berlin

Wer das Hotel bucht, der weiß eigentlich, dass kein großartiger ”Luxus” zu erwarten ist. So auch hier im ibis budget Berlin Hoppegarten. Allerdings war ich doch wenig erfreut über das, was eigentlich einfach sein sollte, nämlich ein wenig mehr auf Sauberkeit zu achten. Gleich als erstes fielen mir dicke Staubschwaden an der Wand vor der ”Pseudo-Klimaanlage” (wird unten noch erläutert) auf. Eigentlich unübersehbar und mir echt schleierhaft, dass eine Reinigungskraft diese einfach mal so ignoriert. Ein weiterer Punkt war der Teppichboden, der reichlich versifft und an den Rändern heftig verstaubt rüberkam. Ich habe keine Ahnung, wie man ein stark frequentiertes Hotel mit textiler Verlegeware austatten kann. Leider war auch am Kopfende des Bettes eine mit Teppich bezogene Kante, die stark verstaubt war... - eigentlich direkt neben meinem Kopf und darüber hinaus die einzige Ablagefläche für eine Uhr oder ein Handy, wenn man dafür nicht den Fußboden nutzen wollte. Die Fernbedienung des TV war klebrig und verstaubt und wurde meinerseits erst mal einer Reinigung mit Feuchttüchern unterzogen. Die Duschkabine und die Toilettenkabine waren komplett aus Kunststoff und recht wenig ”kuschelig”, also genauso, wie man es aus Hotels dieser Art kennt, aber so etwas weiß man. Schmutz etc. konnte ich nicht erkennen, alles dort soweit gut. Vor allen Dingen hat mich der Wasserdruck begeistert, der aus dem Duschkopf kam und wirklich ganz hervorragend war. Nix zu meckern... :-) Das Thema Handtücher müsste noch mal geübt werden. Ich hatte (als Einzelperson) zwei Duschtücher und zwei Badvorleger. Was ich vermisst habe, war ein ganz normales Handtuch. Eines der Duschtücher habe ich als Mücken-Jagdinstrument verwendet, da ich von diesen fliegenden Plagegeistern mehr als genug im Zimmer hatte. Für Gesicht und Hände habe ich daher einen der Badvorleger missbraucht. Die Klimaanlage hätte ich gut gebrauchen können, diese machte aber (selbst auf höchster Stufe) nur Laufgeräusche, jedoch gab es keinen entsprechenden Output. Ich hatte sie daher komplett ausgestellt. An einem Tag hatte ich das Frühstücksbuffet dazugebucht, was auch trotz der spontanen Entscheidung vor Ort kein Problem darstellte. Für 9,80 € war alles da, was man so zum Sattwerden brauchte, nur den Saft könnte man sich sparen, da dieser sich in kürzester Zeit in irgenwas Gelbes und etwas Wässeriges auseinanderdividierte. Kaffee gab es aus einem Automaten und es waren verschiedene Sorten/Herstellungsarten wählbar. Prima und völlig in Ordnung. Mein Fazit: Ich werde wohl nicht noch einmal buchen.

We arrived before 3pm and were allowed to book in, very easy and no issues. The reception staff are lovely and friendly. The room was clean and well maintained. We didn’t pre book breakfast but decided to try it £19 for 2 people was very reasonable and no limit on what you could eat, I will definitely be staying here again if we return to Berlin, the location is great for accessing all transport with a station almost immediately outside the hotel

The front desk staff was very accommodating in getting me into my room quite early after an overnight flight. Rooms leave much to be desired. Beds are very tiny - what a toddler would sleep on. Beds are very, very firm. Room and bathroom weren't very clean. I had my 'do not disturb' sign on my door and received a knock from housekeeping. Repeatedly. When I went to the door, thinking the sign must have fallen off, the housekeeper pushed past me, handed me my 'do not disturb' sign and insisted I replace it with the 'clean my room' sign. It is a 20-30 minute drive to city center. The area is questionable for walking around on your own as a female traveler.

I have stayed here twice now and have no major complaints! The location is great, right in the train station and only two stops from the city centre. The hotel also give you a travel pass to use on all public transport for the duration of your stay - AMAZING! This is a huge money saver. The rooms are a good size and ours had a fridge. The window opens well to ventilation. The staff are super friendly and helpful! This is a great hotel for money value. We will for sure be back!

I stayed only two nights at a&o Berlin Mitte with Contiki, the stay was comfortable. The four-share rooms were very small and a bit tricky to fit our four suitcases. We also had a run-in with staff at the front desk. For a four-share room, we only got two keys. When a member of our group asked for a spare key, she was denied then given a temporary card and was rudely told to bring it right back - but how could she get back into the room to bring it back??? Others in our tour had the same experience. Besides that, the breakfast was great.

Changed to this hotel due to it's location. It's a few minutes walk from the sub way and 40 minutes walk to Aleksandraplatz

This hotel has 5 room types, i booked an Executive apartment, which if the second top room type. I am a solo traveller, but liked the room layout and the extra space. I checked in on 30/03/22 for 3 nights and was allocated room 107. On opening the door i immediately thought it did not exactly resemble the pics i had seen for an Executive Apartment, it was big enough, but just not what i was expecting. The kitchen area was locked up with a shutter over it, which i thought strange. I literally just in the room for 5 minutes and went out exploring. I checked with reception about the kitchen being looked and they asked if i wanted it unlocked to use, yes, that's why i booked that room type, the fridge with freezer compartment for ice and cold drinks. I came back about 5 hours later and the kitchen was indeed unlocked. I was going to shower and looked for the bath robe and slippers which should be in the room, but nothing was there. it was at this point i was sure this was not the room type i had booked. I checked on my phone and looking at the specifications was sure i had been given the wrong room type. I went to reception to enquire and spoke to the duty manager, he printed off 2 pages to show the difference between an Executive Apartment and an Apartment (the top room type), although the same pics had been used to advertise both room types, there were some differences and he stated that my room was larger than most in the hotel. I was still unsure, but accepted what he said and i collected a bathrobe and slippers, the reason they are not already in the room was due to ongoing Covid restrictions. I still felt that i was in the room room type, it was large, but a lot of the room was taken up by a wet room, which was adapted for a wheelchair user and this made the room an awkward space with a lot of dead space. As it turned out, my flight home was cancelled and i ended up staying only 2 nights, so didn't pursue things further. On returning home i checked the room specifications on the website and room 107 is not up to the specifications advertised or as soon in the pics. two main reasons. 1) Executive Apartments have a sofa/sofa bed and can sleep up to 3 people, room 107 had no sofa/sofa bed and this room could only sleep 2 people max. 2) Executive Apartments have a separate seating area, a table and chairs where you can sit and eat, this is clearly shown in the pics too. This was not in room 107. The only seating was a chair at the desk and one other chair. I think room 107 is a superior room adapted for a wheelchair user, but was given to me as i was a solo traveller and dd not need the capacity to sleep 3. I wanted the sofa/sofa bed to sit on and relax, that's why i booked a room with that in it. I am only writing this review, as 3 emails have gone unanswered, one to novum hotels 10/04/22 and two direct to the hotel 12/04/22 and 20/04/22. The hotel is next to Hitler's bunker, where Hitler spent his last days. There are embassies of various countries next to it, so there is nothing to say about the location. The room is a bit cold at night, maybe there is no heating ^_^

This is not my first time staying at A&O Berlin. I have been there prior and immediately after the pandemics too. During this time, the quality of the service has been steady and a good one. The staff rather amicable and prompt to help with any issue you may have. Sometimes things do not work as expected (coffee machine, contactless purchases) but they will guarantee your stay is a smooth one. Breakfast is abundant and provide several options. I only wish the coffee could be better, but all in all is not bad. Also, maybe rooms could do with a bit of cheering up colour, besides the ones provided by the curtains. What I like the most about this hostel is the consistency with the chain principles and the fact that you will find all you need for a good stay, even tissues!

By the time this incident happened, I have already completed a 4 days stay in the hotel and was willing to increase my stay. For that purpose, I went to Mrs. Hausweld and asked to please consult the availability and the price of the rooms for extra nights. In response, I was told that the final price, including the city tax for 3 additional nights would be 350 euros with breakfast included. Consequently, I was willing to go along with that reservation and requested to pay by card. Afterward, then Mrs. Hausweld offered me the POS terminal to go along with the payment, and the amount ascended to 419 euros. Due to that unexpected difference, I kindly asked for an explanation and was told that 419 euros were the final price, and if I was not happy with it I would need to leave the hotel immediately. As a result, I kindly refused to pay that amount and asked her to please consult the price for two nights instead of three. In response to that, the front desk manager told me that no more rooms were available for me and that I needed to check out now and leave the hotel. Following that conversation, I went on Booking.com and reserved a room for the same days, without breakfast, and surprisingly rooms were still available. Next, I went to the front desk and asked to please pay for my booking Mrs. Hausweld looked at me in an unfriendly manner and told me she could not find any reservation. After 5 minutes of searching, she could finally open my booking. Then, although I already provided a credit card in my booking, she asked me to show it to her because she was not believing that it was not mine. I answered that the card was in effect mine and offered her to have a look, but it did not have any numbers on it. So she got ahead to request me to write down my credit card details, including the CVV code, on a piece of paper as ”a security”. Afterward, I was asked again by her if I would like breakfast or not, despite I selected the no breakfast option on booking.com. A moment later I was offered the POS terminal to pay by card, which stated an amount 30 euros higher that the price I booked the room for on this site. Due to the reoccurrence of the same, previous situation again, I refused to pay and respectfully asked her why the price was higher again. Mrs. Hauweld answered in a very disrespectful manner that I asked her to have breakfast included and that I was confusing her again. After that situation, I kindly asked them to speak with her supervisor. She answered, that she had no supervisor and was the only person working in the hotel for the whole weekend. That experience left me in complete disbelief of her professionality and her being in that important role in the hotel. However, despite that bad experience with that particular staff member, I would like to note that the other front desk managers were very friendly and helpful at all times.
