Great
CChuleaiwanhaishiaiwanThe location and environment are impeccable, and I have to say a few more words about the food and service. Since we arrived after 9pm, the French meal that ended at 10pm was not suitable, so the waiter introduced us to the international fusion cuisine opposite. The taste was good and met our expectations, but the variety was a little less. Diago at the front desk is what I want to introduce today. We are a family of three traveling, and I booked a room in my husband's name and my own name. That Diago actually asked a strange question, ”Are you three staying in one room?” I just thought he was not proficient in business and didn't care. Then he said that the single room I booked was queen size and he helped me upgrade it to king size. He also said that the double room I booked was also a queen size bed. I showed him the order, ”1.81 meters big bed”, he still insisted that it was a queen size. My husband also said that other people's king size might be 2.00 meters. I asked if he could also help me upgrade to king size, and he readily agreed. We thanked him. Walking into the room, the small window saw other people's roofs and a road. Where is my view? I went downstairs to argue with Diago. The 1.81-meter bed I booked is already a king size, but you didn’t upgrade it for me. I booked a room with a view, so what about the view? Diago said that 1.81 meters refers to the length of the bed. I asked him in return if the 1.51-meter and 1.31-meter beds provided by the hotel also refer to the length? Until then, I still thought he was not proficient in his business. Diago was speechless and said that I would go and ask. When he came back, he argued that the room I gave you was bigger, but what I wanted was the view! I said that the view was my first consideration and the room size ranked second. Diago hesitated for a long time before saying that there was no room with a view tonight, ”What?!” At this time, I firmly believed that his previous series of actions were intentional! As compensation, Diago gave me a simple breakfast for two people in the fourth-floor lounge for free the next day. To be honest, the breakfast was really average.
BBarryWRoom cleanliness and air conditioning were good. Beds were comfy. Breakfast was simple but good in quality. However the breakfast queue was long and food replenishment was not done in pace with the flow, ended up in a long queue not moving as people stayed in the front of the queue stayed in the queue waiting for replenishment. The dinning space was insufficient that could not accommodate the big crowd.
We ran into issue setting up the sofa bed. Calling the front desk asking for assistance we were stunned by a reply saying they would not send staff to help but urging us to try for another attempts and kept reassuring us the sofa bed operation was simple and easy. Finally we got that sorted out with help from other hotel customers..
A major disappointment that totally ruined my experience with the hotel was the way my enquiry was handled towards an unknown charge after I checked out.
In the check out bill, it was just a charge billed to my credit card without indicating what service or item I was billed for. While my family did not order or buy anything at all from the hotel and we were in a rush, I did not check the bill upon check out until 5 days later I saw it in my credit card account. I sent an email to the hotel reservation (that was the only email channel I found from the hotel home page) to enquire about the charge and no reply was received ever towards my enquiry and that's what I was hit. Although the unknown charge was refunded after another week, I did not feel good with the way they work. I frankly accept mistakes made by the front desk or the account team for incorrect bill, but I do not accept ignorance and zero communication from the backend on my enquiry. This is something the hotel should improve.
NNixon30The hotel is in good location with large room and comfortable bed. This was a busy time and the hotel was coping. However breakfast time was near breaking point with the amount of people eating. But a senior person took over and the pressure was eased.
AAlicia York-BirdI've stayed at this hotel several times now; I enjoy how clean, quiet, and nicely decorated the suites and the hotel itself are!
The bathrooms are beautiful, very clean, and well-appointed, as are the rooms themselves.
Very pleased and will stay here again when my travels take me through this area once more.
GGuest UserWe stayed one night right in the heart of the Byword Market in Ottawa and really loved it. My only complaint is the cost of parking- $35/night. A little steep. But it seems parking in Ottawa is costly. Other than that, I really enjoyed how great the room was. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
JJudyfanFor my first time staying overnight at Ottawa, I booked a hotel room for one night at Lord Elgin. Upon arriving early at the hotel, I was provided with a room before my check-in time - which was very appreciated. The facilities are clean and the staff is friendly. However, little did we know, our room on the 7th floor was connected to another room with adjoining doors. We were unable to sleep through the night as the room had little to no sound isolation from the connecting room, in which a baby was crying all night. I am baffled as to how we were able to hear every single noise: coughing and sneezing from the parents in the other room, their toilet flushing and the baby crying throughout the entire night. We were unable to sleep comfortably and woke up with splitting headaches. I booked this hotel to be the closest possible to the Rideau Canal Skateway, but I will have to find another hotel the next time.
AAlicia York-BirdI expected more from Glö than I received. I chose Glö as a ”treat” for a couple's getaway, as it was a newer hotel and appeared like it would be snazzier than the usual fare.
Pros: The bathroom was very nice, and the complimentary toiletries are top notch. The rooms are very clean. The mattress was very comfortable and the TV was a decent size.
Cons: The rooms are incredibly small, and while they are nicely furnished, the tiny ”couch” seat was more form than function (i.e. prettier than it was comfortable). The front desk staff seemed very new and clueless on basic hospitality essentials, like how to work the in-room television. It also took ages for a response from front desk on how to work the TV and the issue wasn't even resolved.
I probably will not stay here again nor would I recommend this hotel to anyone I know, as there are so many hotels to choose from in Kanata that offer better, more knowledgeable service and better pricing.
AAnonymous UserThe bed was comfortable and the breakfast buffet was great. The room was fairly quiet. The shower controls were modern. The only thing was no trash bags in the trash bins inside the room, and no bottled water included (had to bring my own). The garbage bags they provided after requesting them were too big lol. The cost was fairly expensive for just one night though manageable if splitting the cost with another guest.
GGuest UserA short walk from Parliament Station, the Sheraton gave us a spacious room. However, there was no kettle to boil water for tea - we used the coffee maker instead. There was some kind of problem with the pipes in the wall, meaning a shopvac had to be left running in the hallway outside our room 24hr/d. The carpet in our closet next to the bathroom was always soaked, probably because of the problem.
Perhaps because it was near Centretown, we had one or two homeless or disturbed people on the sidewalks near the hotel. This made it uncomfortable for me to approach with my children because of their random mutterings and throwing of drink bottles. However this only happened twice during our weeklong stay.
Staff were very friendly, nice and helpful, and sharply dressed.
GGuest UserThe location is good. The car was left in the parking lot the next day. All the attractions were visited on foot. We checked in at all the main attractions, had lunch and drove away. It was very convenient and worth recommending.
