The best thing about Feriniquarrie holiday cottage is the location and views. Good sized kitchen, good WiFi, fuel included in price. Now for the bad bits. It's clearly not a property loved much by the owner. Desperately in need of a deep clean and some maintenance by a competent person. On our arrival the first thing noticed was the large gate to the property which dragged on the ground on opening and closing. Anyone with a bad back or shoulders will struggle with this. There are actually two gates, the first is a shared joint access to two other properties which works fine. Overall impression of general cleanliness was good on entering the cottage until I noticed the crumbs on the dining table and kitchen worktops and the filthy ceiling and fire exterior. The kitchen uplighters had a layer of dust half an inch thick on them. The table placemats still had food on them and the surfaces were completely worn off. Surely not expensive items to be replaced? The built in fridge door did not close properly and there were still items in the freezer. The old rayburn needed a good clean as it was thick with dust and grime. Not sure if it was even usable, handle held on with tape and no sign to advise. Ingrained grease, and food down the sides of the kitchen units where the newer free standing electric cooker slotted in. Both oven and induction hob worked fine. Top loader of dishwasher did not fully extend and on closer inspection it seemed the right hand side metal runner did not fit the wee wheels properly so to load it you have to reach right into the back. Possibly due to an incompatible replacement part? In any case it operated fine when switched on. The kettle and toaster needed a good clean and are due replacements. The microwave smelt awful so didn't attempt to use it. Didn't use the wood burner so can't comment on that but the exterior needed a good clean of built up dust. Heating worked and hot water heated up VERY quickly so beware you don't scald yourself. My 7 year old son slipped and fell on the thin cheap doormats which had been placed at the bottom of a couple of steps into the open plan lounge so we removed these due to the slip hazard they posed on the wooden floor. The property would benefit with new painting /decoration in parts, most notably the bathroom, ensuite and open plan kitchen lounge area. Wooden window frames in desperate need of varnishing. Double bed comfy enough although my son said the single wasn't. Sofa not comfy. I sat in one of the chairs and jarred my back sinking far lower than expected. I lifted the seat cushion to find a piece of thick broken card beneath presumably to bolster the broken chair? The washing machine in the utility cupboard worked OK but I needed to wipe off a build up of black gunk in the door seal before use. I used the indoor airers but an outdoor washing line or rotary dryer would be beneficial on fine days. Dripping kitchen mono tap with a dish underneath which required emptying twice a day.
