Have used this hotel many times in the past when seeing a show in the Hippodrome. It’s one of the few hotels in Bristol with a decent car park on site (£12 per day). It’s a 15 minute walk to the Hippodrome and easily do able. Outside the hotel can be found some cafes and a pub. The hotel hasn’t really changed much over the years. The Novotel sign has worn off the front door but otherwise the interior is the same since I visited it a few years ago. The room (114) was at the rear of the hotel, clean, large comfy bed and most importantly it was quiet at night. Pillows were very hard however and a choice of pillow in the room would have been good. I also have to knock a star off because the staff at reception were not the most friendly. No conversation, no mention of belonging to the loyalty club, just all very formal. That’s not a problem if that’s what you like but a little more friendliness/warmth would of been nice. No one asked how our stay was when we left. Otherwise another lovely stay at this hotel.

Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel had an extensive makeover in 2017, giving the historic Grade 2 listed building a stylish and distinctive new look. The hotels rejuvenated interior draws inspiration from both the city independent art scene and the buildings rich historic past; creating a classic, yet contemporary, finish. Keepers Bar and Kitchen features solid wood and metal fittings and serves much-loved British meals using quality, locally sourced ingredients.

Honestly, the team here at the Mercure have gone above and beyond. I’m here for a business trip as I’m attending a trade show within the hotel and I have found the whole experience brilliant. I checked into my room but my toilet had a bit of an overexcited flush, the maintenance team came out to rectify but they upgraded my room without hesitation. I mentioned that I would be back here in 4 days time to stay due to my sister getting married around the corner and when I say that they are pulling out all the stops for her for that evening before the wedding, that isn’t even the half of it. I can’t say too much incase she reads this review beforehand but thank you a million times to Mahin and Stan for everything you’re doing for her. You’re making a Big Sister and her favourite person very happy! We’ll definitely be back!

Good basic facilities and a great breakfast. The guest house is in the centre of the club and bar area of Bristol, so lots of noise all night. There is no parking and you have to leave the car in a multi story car park about a ten minute walk away. Which cost £36 for my weekend. No facilities for disabled, but does have a small lift. No view except the back of other buildings. I was arriving about 9.00pm and informed reception before hand. I was hot, tired and sticky. The girl manning the desk at night was really miserable handed me my keys and told me that my breakfast wasn’t included and I would have to pay £13 for each meal and left me wondering what the hell was going on. I was too tired to argue and went to my room. It was a small double that overlooked a grubby, dark courtyard. Another building was right in front of me with windows looking straight into mine. No wardrobe as room was too small. Good breakfast with great waiters. Another miserable girl behind the counter, who wouldn’t speak. The day staff were lovely though. All in all, a tiring weekend with very little sleep due to the noise and heat. The two nights cost me £232.20 and no, I didn’t have to pay extra for breakfast. Would I stay again. NO!

Stayed for three nights at Filton. We found the reception service very good when we arrived and service generally was excellent. Our room was comfortable and clean and well appointed, with an iron, ironing board, hairdryer and tea and coffee. The air conditioning was easily controllable and the window opened slightly for fresh air. Despite what some previous reviews have said, the complementary breakfast was really very good. Quality sausages, bacon etc with ( for a hotel) good scrambled eggs. Tea and coffee on tap, juices, cereals and a choice of breads, also waffles. Good to see gluten free bread available. There were plenty of fruits and yogurt available . The staff also worked hard at keeping all items topped up. The reason I have given four stars is because the hotel is very poorly signposted we had a nightmare trying to find it in the dark and pouring rain. Apart from this we had a great stay, good to see a hotel being run well, by hard working staff in difficult times for the industry, with recruitment etc. Top Marks!

Visited to settle offspring into University. The best feature for me was the small lockable hotel garage, which meant a car full of student ‘stuff’ could be safely left overnight- gave tremendous peace of mind. Staff were really friendly and helpful. There was a reliable lift. Racks restaurant also had responsive, efficient staff, and the food was palatable. I expected the location to be much quieter than was the case, there was a lot of noise from outside, including happy drunks and traffic. Whiteladies road, with a wide choice of cafes and restaurants is within walking distance and Clifton village and The Downs a short drive away. On-road parking is mainly permit for residents and pay & display parking is extremely limited. We booked single rooms for a short stay, but they were extremely small, so if staying longer, you would definitely want a larger room. Overall, a good place. The secure parking was the outstanding feature for me.

Channings hotel is a lovely period building situated in Clifton, a smart area of Bristol. It is close to the Suspension Bridge, the shops and bars, and a short walk into the city. Our room was small but had all we needed. The staff were excellent. Friendly and helpful and dealt with everything efficiently. The breakfast was good, as was the pub food. Great value in an expensive area. Car parking can be tricky.

At first check-in, staff said my booking’s payment was failed, I showed my booking confirmation with clearly stated payment successful, then he printed a confirmation for me to sign but I found that’s another one’s booking… totally another name… The 2nd print out was just showing my name without another personal information and I was told it’s okay to sign… Once I entered my room, there’s no bath tub, I called the concierge and claimed that when I booked this room type, photo clearly showed there’s bath tub and that’s why I chose this more expensive room type, staff just told me only Superior King room type offered bath tub… When I tried to take a shower, there’s no shower gel & face tissue in the toilet… what a big surprise that a so called 4 stars hotel could provide such service standard… I would definitely NOT recommend this hotel to anyone going to BATH for a visit… And what’s more, this is my Birthday trip with more than 3 hrs drive from the North, they really gave me a BIG surprise!!

GGuest UserWe arrived on a late flight from Portugal with a particular room booked which we had done through a third party booking service (queen). The hotel was clearly very busy and we were put into a room with twin double beds. This was not ideal and we asked the receptionist if it was possible to have the room we had booked. She moved us to a much nicer room (same footprint but better layout which meant I could share a bed with my husband!). This was a real 5/5 from us because despite an initial problem the really kind and professional receptionist went out of her way to fix it, and also comped us a couple of drinks which was unexpected and massively appreciated. It has made me much more likely to choose this chain again, knowing that a small hiccup will be dealt with nicely. Great staff. Room was comfortable and well proportioned and I like the fact that the toiletries are in dispensers so less plastic waste! The bar was lovely as well with really nice common areas to relax. Late night bar staff were charming and friendly. Well done Hilton!

GGuest UserThe hotel was very smart modern and clean. Our room was small but we had booked a standard room. Price was good compared to other hotels locally. The hotel is right next to the harbour and in the middle of a bustling nightlife. We hadn’t considered this when booking. Although the location was great, the noise from outside could be heard so loudly in our room at night. I actually thought a window was open, but it wasn’t. This went on till the early hours, music, shouting etc, so we found it hard to sleep. The bed was very comfortable though and the room spotlessly clean. Tea/coffee facilities were provided in our room, an iron and hairdryer were also there. The bathroom had a good shower, towels were provided. We didn’t dine but I did purchase a drink from the bar. After paying I was told it would be brought over to me. When it was the bartender informed me my card had declined and asked me to pay again. I did, however when I checked my bank later both payments had been paid out. Not very happy about this. Although a nice looking hotel and great price, due to the noise level at night we wouldn’t stay again. If that wouldn’t bother you the hotel would be a great choice.

GGuest UserWe visited Bristol to celebrate my birthday weekend, so we booked a “deluxe” king size room for three nights. On arrival the hotel was very impressive with good car parking facilities and a very classy reception area. Check-in was friendly and efficient. There was just a slight confusion over the late check-out time – the website said 4pm, the receptionist thought it was 3pm. The reception is well attended and they were highly responsive when dealing with an issue with one of the lifts. There was a loud noise inside the lift one evening between floor 4 & 5 (a bit of a worrying sound of metal hitting on metal). It was great to see a lift engineer on-site bright and early the next morning attending to it. The bedroom was very spacious with lots of storage, a very comfortable super-king size bed and a clean bathroom. However, the main problem with the room was how dimly lit it was and the scruffy state of the furniture. It was difficult to see well enough in the room to put make-up on, which meant I had to wait for my partner to finish in the bathroom before I could use the better illuminated bathroom mirror. The dark wooden furniture was badly scuffed and warped; the chair was scruffy with peeling leatherette - surprisingly tired furniture for a Deluxe room. There was a lot of damage to the bathroom door (big dent in the wooden panel), scratches in the sink and broken robe hooks – not exactly deluxe fittings. Also the bathrobes were very small (approx size 14). When we came to pack up to leave we had to get a torch out to check in cupboards etc to make sure we hadn’t left anything behind – it was too dark to see inside the cupboards without a torch even though we had the curtains open and lights on. Unfortunately it was then that we saw just how extremely dusty the room was. The lampshades were very dusty. I doubt the area beneath the desk/dressing table had been vacuumed for months (lots of clumps of dust in the area where you put your feet). We were disturbed by just how much dust we had spent the last three nights sleeping with so, out of curiosity, we moved the bed to check underneath and discovered another very thick build up of dust and a roast potato from a previous guest’s dinner stuck to the carpet. There is an Eco option to not have housekeeping done each day which we welcomed at the time, as it meant we didn’t have to wonder when the cleaner would come in if we wanted to have a lie in. However, if I’d have seen the levels of dust in the room on arrival, then I would have asked for a cleaner to come in and give it all a good vacuuming. Apart from the disappointing dust and shabby furniture we enjoyed our stay because of the extremely comfy bed, excellent breakfast in the delightful Kiln restaurant and on-site car parking. It’s also a good location for visiting the city. But I’d need some reassurance that the housekeeping issues will be attended to before we contemplate a return visit.

AAppleTravelThe hotel is very nice, with all the equipments need, however, I had several experiences finding the lights cannot be turned on, and also the oven does not work. The safe cannot work, and the mirror was at the ground. The washing machine kept on running water without stopping? It seems no one checked the property properly before the customers check in. Also their online sales control the sales of rooms without over 28 days, so, doing online booking cannot over 28 days. After 28 days, if you want to stay longer, then the sales price almost like stock price, flucturating seriously, then it becomes today is a price, tomorrow the price is doubled. In most other hotels chains, it will have a committed price for certain time, so customers can know it will be valid for how long. However, this hotel sales will tell a different price every day. It makes less confidence to let customers feel loyalty. The other strange thing is their direct price is always cheaper than the agent price, so it makes people better book at agent rather than book directly, it seems very unusual as well. It looks like both the customers service for room management and the sales service for sales management shall be further looked and improved. It is not buying stuff from weekend market, and the price can dramatically change like this. Also, a commitment to customer shall be followed, especially if this is already in writing. It is not right to tell customer one price in writing, and the next day changes again. It sounds like we bargain in the weekend market for buying vegetables or meats? No customers will like to see A Price become B Price and become C Price. Also, there is no difference between daily rate and weekly rate and monthly rate, seems hotel does not encourage direct sales with customers, also do not encourage long term stay as well. Can only say It is a very unique experience.

JJupiterMeowMeowThree major advantages: 1) The room is really large and generous! Even the bathroom is very big and has a bathtub 2) The view from the top floor is great 3) The location is very good, just downstairs is the bus stop, and the airport bus stop is a two-minute walk away Three major shortcomings: 1) The room is too old and not well maintained. 2) There is no socket at the bedside, which is inconvenient. 3) The heating in the room can be turned up to the maximum to ensure that it is ”not cold” but cannot be said to be ”warm”. Breakfast is still a typical English breakfast. In addition, the front desk is also very friendly, but when I asked for slippers, the final reply was ”There are no slippers” (??)

GGuest UserStayed here for two nights in September 2022. The staff are very friendly. The hotel is on the edge of Clifton, which appears to be a very affluent area. A twenty minute walk will take to to the Clifton suspension bridge to take in some lovely views. The bridge visitor centre and observation tower are well worth visiting. The number 8 bus which you get around the corner takes you into Bristol city centre in around 15/20 minutes, so all in all, a good location. The hotel offers a substantial free cooked and buffet breakfast which is why I am awarding it three stars. You will need to book a time slot. Now the not so good…………… Our room was on the ground floor and needs a refurb. A rotten window frame, mould in the shower and on the bathroom ceiling, a hole in the net curtain, an uneven wobbly floor and cobwebs hanging from the ceiling were not a great look. The bed and towels were clean, but despite the fact I was there for two nights and a couple of small towels were left on the floor, they weren’t changed, even though someone had clearly been into our room to provide biscuits for our tea and coffee (which i add, was a lovely gesture). Neither was our bed made. Now I realise the management will say if we had complained, we may have been moved, but that’s not the point. That room (room 11), would have been provided to another guest or guests if we had been moved. It just needs a refurb and then perhaps the next guest would give the hotel four stars. Really enjoyed Bristol. First time I have visited, but found it really interesting. Lots to see and do and the people are very friendly.

AAsmiRuYha as always the best..we booked a 3 person room. The location is besides the harbour just in centre of all the hustle bustle as well as quietness! Only one downside the room that is separate than other dorm rooms is located on the top level. The heater or some pipe kept on making noise when ever the winds were strong or any flight went from above (I guess) Positive side: the room comes with skylight..you are able to see stars and moon on a clear night..thus you can sleep glazing at the stars :)

GGuest UserWe needed to be near the Cathedral for a Graduation ceremony and the Ibis was a 5 minute walk away. Reception on arrival was quick & efficient. The bedroom (320) and bathroom were clean and appeared to have been totally renovated very recently. Everything worked as it should. There was some background noise from the air-con on a nearby building but this did not prove to be a problem for us when the window was closed. A very fullsome buffet breakfast was enjoyed. We took advantage of the secure luggage room after vacating the bedroom. All the staff we encountered were very pleasant, polite and helpful. We parked at the nearby Britannia Car Park (which was clean and well lit) and the Ibis reception processed our parking ticket which resulted in up to 24 hour parking costing £10 instead of £17. Checkout was painless. Would we stay again? Yes - but for only one or two nights.
