VidaMar Resort Hotel Madeira

Good points. Views are amazing. Staff helpful and hardworking. Restaurant was very good. Lots of choice and tables cleared quickly. Dine out option a positive. We went twice to Mama Mia and ate from the special menu and it was superb. Beautifully presented and nice atmosphere. Staff here were also excellent. Lunch at pool bar good value and once again great good. Plenty of sunbeds so no need to rush in the morning. Bad points. Room was tired, dated and bland. Very much in need of a refurbish. Furniture was awful. Chipped, cheap and not of any decent standard. Toilet toll holder fell off the wall on day 1 and eventually on day 4 I had to report as housekeeping didn’t. Was fixed straightaway. Rug in room was stained and old. Not pleasant. Ghastly mirrored walls in the bathroom. We’re not all Kate Moss. It’s something I never want you to see again. The hotel ambassador visited the room and agreed with the poor stsndard of the room. Explained the hotel was being refurbished. As an apology sent fruit and wine to the room which was a nice gesture. However the room should have not been occupied like this. Certainly nowhere close to what we envisioned. Sun deck was a mass of grey concrete. Lots of attention needed here. One of the rails into the pool roped off as wobbly. Was like that the whole week. Lots of broken concrete. However with a bit of refurbish and maybe a bit of colour as it is so bland it would be worth a revisit. Jet2 should be aware of the above and adjust prices accordingly. Not quite a 5 star experience. The hotel ambassador was very good, apologetic and listened to our issues. A report was done.

My first trip to Madeira and this hotel was such a great choice. close enough to Funchal centre to be within walking distance and quiet enough you didn't feel like you were in a big city. The view was fabulous and sunrise a joy. Surrounded by gardens the morning bird chorus was amazing and a great way to wake up. The Hotel was built in the 70's and is showing a little age but in a charming way. Being an architecture lover I was in hog heaven to view this Oscar Meyermier classic... The rooms are large enough for two, Clean, great shower, tidied everyday and all the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. A few other reviews have complained about the food but for the price, I found it just right. Already looking forward to my next stay in September.
Pestana Village Garden Hotel

Sao Martinho
We have visited Pestana Village in the past and returned Dec 2024 because it has very good customer service, the grounds are lovely and the hotel’s location makes it easy to walk into Funchal. As others have commented, Pestana Village is quite worn and is well overdue a thorough refurbishment. However the food during our recent stay was really poor and very disappointing. Mixed salads and vegetables that all tasted the same, tough meat and unappetising fish dishes that had been kept warm for hours, virtually no hot vegetable dishes and what there was very poor quality, blancmanges every evening of different colours but no flavour. It felt like everything is made using the cheapest available ingredients, probably from tins, jars or packets. With Jet2 we were paying the equivalent of £200 a day for a couple half board which really is enough to provide good quality, fresh food. Someone somewhere is making a very healthy profit! Despite the lacklustre food, all the staff were always friendly and helpful.

Schade….

The hotel that left a deep impression will have a chance to come back. The hotel is in a great location, close to the edge of the cliff. Invincible sea view. All kinds of swimming pools are suspended on the edge of the cliff at different heights. There are sea water, natural water temperature and heated water temperature, which enjoy great value. There are 2 large restaurants, and the rest of the outdoor restaurants, bars, and salons are so many that they have stayed for a few days and have not found out. The big restaurant buffet has a cabaret show in the evening, and the male and female singers play piano. There are tabloids in the hotel, 6 languages, English and American languages, and there are American and British versions. Service staff gentlemanly, friendly and friendly. Different restaurants with a variety of flavors to choose from.
