Everest Boutique Hotel Reviews

I think it's important I write my review to warn others of what might be to come should you be considering a stay at Everest Boutique Hotel (EBH), Thamel. After a 2 hour journey to EBH from Nagarkot, we arrived at 2pm/ check in time. Perfect. However we were told that we could not check in because there was a problem with the plumbing and we would have to stay in a different hotel. This is a difficult situation because what can we possibly say? We don't want to be unreasonable guests if it's something out of their control. We asked where we would stay and were told Hotel Vistara and that it was a five star hotel. Ok, that sounds reasonable. We were told that we could return the following morning at 11.30. Upon arrival to vistara, it was clear this was not a five star hotel. The room was barely bigger than the standard double bed within. And the bathroom was one of those that have the shower, basin and toilet in the same square inch without any divide. Oh, talking of the toilet, it was leaking into the bathroom. Nice. Price comparisons: Everest Boutique Hotel - about £50 per night Hotel Vistara - about £15 per night We returned to EBH and politely asked, should their plumbing problem be fixed, could we please stay in their hotel? We exchanged WhatsApp numbers and were told we would find out by 7. Needless to say, after messaging EBH for an update that evening, I was told the problem would not be fixed and to return the following day and we would be compensated. We returned the next day after an awful sleep and were offered an 'upgrade' to a room with a Jacuzzi bath. I explained that was not necessary and we would like a refund of the previous night, as we had paid for two nights, but were now only staying for one. However we were told, because we chose to stay in Vistara, that a refund would not be offered. Rather frustrating, given our pleas to stay at EBH the day before, the complete lack of other options offered and also, EBH's prior offer of compensation. Anyway, I went to the room a little disgruntled. I have read some other reviews and it appears this is not an isolated incident and has happened to several others. I strongly believe EBH are accepting double bookings for the same room. They likely charge a high price for the 2nd booking and send people who paid less to a cheap alternative. They tell the guests to return at 11.30, just in time to clean the room from the previous occupant. This enables them to get two payments for the night, and use the money gained to book into Hotel Vistara. This review doesn't even cover the 7 hour wait for a hair dryer during which time staff came into our room several times with ladders and screwdrivers. We only wanted a hair dryer so my wife could dry her hair. In summary, an ok room. But a hotel run by ****** and scammers (Hotel manager especially). If you're considering staying here, just don't. There are lots of beautiful places to stay in Thamel. Choose somewhere else.
