Stonecross Manor Hotel

Although the hotel is just off the main road into Kendal, it is very quiet, and we had a room in the front. We had a very good welcome at reception. As it was a special occasion we had booked the junior suite on the second floor. There was a convenient lift and the room was nearby. The room itself was clean and tidy with all the usual amenities. It did require a bit of TLC to the paintwork, but we were subsequently told work is due to start at the hotel now out of season is here. The bathroom had a bath and large shower and was very clean. There was a nice environmental touch of soap and body wash bars in small bags, and locally produced. Breakfast was cooked to order, well presented and very tasty. I can definitely recommend the kipper. There was a varied evening meal menu and that was top notch. The bar was well stocked and there was an excellent lounge area to relax in at the end of your meal. We found all staff excellent with nothing too much trouble. Helen, the manager runs a very good establishment. We would certainly visit again.
Damson Dene Hotel

The environment is very good! Very cost-effective! But you need to drive to get there. Suitable for self-driving guests. The breakfast is also very rich and clean.

What a fantastic place. The best Christmas I’ve had in a long time and the food is so gorgeous and the staff so lovely and attentive we felt like we’d died and gone to heaven. When they say locally sourced food they really mean it. We will definitely do Christmas there again and have been recommending it to all our friends and family. There is nothing that Adam and his team won’t do for the guests. My husband booked clay pigeon shooting and had mobility problems with the walk to the shoot. Transport was arranged for him at no extra cost. We really felt that they wanted us to have the best time ever. I just hope it doesn’t change if it becomes more popular as some places do. They are hoping to have a hip spa installed this year which will make it perfect; as at the moment you have to go to another hotel if you want a massage.

We visited on the Saturday evening and had a lovely meal, man behind the bar very welcoming. They check on how the meal was and we were very impressed so said we would return on the Sunday for a roast dinner. Not so welcoming on the Sunday different staff behind the bar, ordered 2 roast beef dinners and it was shocking. The worst Yorkhire pudding ever burnt to a crisp. They never came to check on how the food was. The beef was so tough like it had been reheated on a grill. Overall it was the worst Sunday roast I think I ever had. Such a difference in the Food and service from one day to the next. We left very disappointed and still hungry as it was not edible.
The Lodge @ Carus Green
4.2/525 Reviews
The Lodge, Carrus Green Golf Club, Burneside Road, Kendal, Cumbria The lodge sits next to an 18-hole golf course. Guest rooms are well-appointed with an en-suite bathroom and are cosy and comfortable. They are not big but adequate and they have good views over the rolling countryside. Guests can use the lounge bar and restaurant at the golf cub and the free wi-fi works. Reviews for location - around eight miles by car from Windemere with lots of walks and cycle routes in the area - and cleanliness are good and the lodge also has a high ranking for value for money. The bed was comfy and the lodge was really warm, thankfully, as the temperature outside was Baltic. It is only a short walk over the car park to the modern golf club where meals are available. We opted out of dinner but the menu looked good and went for breakfast. It was a feast. Two eggs, two sausages and bacon, two hash browns, mushrooms and beans, a real ,plateful. Tea was extra but we were so full we did not eat again until dinner. We felt at home here. Sadly, the weather gods did not shine on us, horizontal rain and high winds for most of our stay, but this accommodation is well-worth looking at. We walked into Kendal via path and that took around 40 minutes. Thankfully, the rain relented on the way back, and Kendal is worth a visit. It has big name brand shops as well as local stores and a market and the golf course at Carrus Green looked inviting. Guests, we understand, receive a reduction in the green fee and there is a river nearby with permits available from the local pub, The Jolly Anglers, LA9 6QS
The Watermill Inn & Brewery

We first stayed overnight here in April 2024 and loved it that much we stayed again for a night this month while spending a few days on the Lake District. Nice room with a lovely balcony and comfortable bed. The staff are so helpful and friendly and the food was excellent especially the fish finger sandwich, battered onion rings, the steak and ale pie and the pork ( with a fabulous sauce and mash) and a lovely side dish. As an ale drinker there beers (all named after dogs) were excellent, especially the Shih Tzu. Very good breakfast as well. Well worth the money and well worth a third visit. Another bonus is plenty of of car parking
